This study aims to investigate the effect of the pad chamfer shape of the caliper, one of the automobile brake systems, on housing behavior and contact pressure characteristics. The pad chamfer of the caliper serves to control the pressure and contact area between the pad and the disk, which can affect the performance and noise generation of the brake system. In this study, a caliper with squeal noise was attached to a noise dynamometer, and the shape of the pad chamfer was changed under the same conditions, and the movement amount and direction of movement of the top and bottom of the housing and the contact pressure between the pad and the disc were tested. The test confirmed that the pad chamfer shape of the caliper directly affects the housing behavior and contact pressure characteristics, which also affects the improvement of squeal noise. In particular, pad chamfer of certain shapes have shown a tendency to increase squeal noise by causing instability in caliper housing behavior and imbalance in face pressure distribution. This study will help minimize squeal noise generation by adjusting the behavior and face pressure of the housing through optimization of the pad shape. Furthermore, it may contribute to improving the driving stability of the vehicle and the convenience of the driver.
