Reacting to Lu Jiu-yuan’s teachings on “Wuji-Taiji,” Zhu-Xi explicitly outlined his own viewpoints on the concept of “Taiji.” Furthermore, he established a system of cosmological ontology based on them. Zhu-xi’s main viewpoints and arguments on “Taiji”were fully understood and accepted by Lee Eon-jeok, who inherited and developed them even further. Lee Eon-jeok argued with Cho Han-bo, a thinker who contended against Lu Jiu-yuan (Son Sook-don) on the interpretation of “Wuji er Taiji”by deftly quoting Zhu-xi’s point of view from Zhu-xi's standpoint. In modern times, Daesoon Thought has borrowed the concept of “Wuji” and “Taiji,” and interpreted the original body of the “Dao” as “Wuji”to reveal a stationarity of the “Dao.” This is interpreted as the specific creation of all things and the process of change, wherein Taiji represents the revealed activity of the “Dao.” This development can be seen as an attempt by Daesoon Thought to clear away all suffering and enmity and open up a Later World of love and justice through an omnipotent Supreme God (Sangje) in times of desperate crisis of internal and external troubles. 주희는 육구연과의 “무극태극”논변을 통하여 “태극”개념에 대한 자신의 관점을 명확하게 정리하였고 이를 바탕으로 자신의 우주본체론 체계를 확립하였다. 주희의 "태극"에 관한 주요 관점과 주장은 이언적에 의하여 완벽하게 이해되고 받아들여졌을 뿐만 아니라 한 걸음 더 나아가 계승되고 발전되었다. 이언적은 주희의 입장에서 주희의 관점을 교묘하게 인용하여 육구연(손숙돈)과 대척점에 있는 조한보와 “무극이태극”에 관한 해석을 둘러싸고 논쟁을 벌였다. 근대에는 대순사상이 무극과 태극 개념을 빌려, 무극으로써 도의 본체를 해석하여 도의 정해진[定] 측면을 가리켜 본체론적 함의를 나타내었고, 태극으로써 만물의 구체적인 생성과 변화의 과정을 해석하여 도의 움직이는[動] 측면을 가리켜 기능론적 함의를 나타내었다. 이는 당시 내유외환의 절박한 위기 상황에서 대순사상이 전능적인 존재--상제 개념으로써 모든 고통과 원한을 해소하고 사랑과 정의로 넘쳐흐르는 후천세계를 개척하고자 시도한 것으로 볼 수 있다.
