Cordierite powders were prepared by controlled hydrolysis of metal alkoxides with catalysts in water medium without using organic solvents. Water was adjusted to a certain pH by HC1 and NH4OH. $\alpha$-Cordierite powder was prepared from aluminum isopropoxide, tetraethyl orthosilicate and magnesium ethoxide mixed with water adjusted to pH of 3. At water pH of 11, $\alpha$-cordierite, mullite and $\beta$-quartz phases were coexisted. The powders were freeze dried, calcined and then fired at different temperatures. The characteristics of powders were examined by means of DTA, X-ray diffraction, FT-IR, and electron microscopy. It was found that $\alpha$-cordierite could be synthesized at temperature of 120$0^{\circ}C$ from the powders prepared by alkoxides with water medium without organic solvents.

The automatic transmission is the power transmission apparatus which converts the engine power into an appropriate condition for the vehicle driving system. The studies are in progress to control the automatic transmission electronically for proper shifting point, shifting time, and the smoothness of the gear shift.<br/> For the purpose of electronic control of automatic transmission, a control system incorporating the shifting process should be modeled and analyzed as a study on transient characteristics during gear shifting. Furthermore, to improve the durability of the vehicle and the feeling while shifting, the optimal design of automatic transmission controller is important. In this study, to design the controller of the automatic transmission, the mathematical modeling of the entire power train including the automatic transmission is performed. In order to improve the feeling while shifting during the proper time to shift, the automatic transmission controller is designed according to the use of the optimization method.<br/>
[論文] Application of Nonlinear Goal Programming to Structural Optimization

본 논문은 비선형 goal Programming을 이용하여 구조 최적화 문제들의 해를 얻는 방법을 제시한다. 이 방법은 다기준 최적화의 도구로 사용되는데 그 까닭은 goal Programming 이 목적함수와 제한조건 등을 정의하는데 있어서 발생하는 난점들을 제거해 주며, 또한 설계목적의 우선 순위를 다루는 능력을 갖추고 있기 때문이다.<br/> 비선형 goal Programming에 대한 구조 최적화의 모델이 제시된다. Hooke-Jeeves의 patt-ern탐색, 수정된 Hooke-Jeeves의 Pattern 탐색, 그리고 Powell의 공액뱡향 탐색방향을 이용한 세 가지의 비선향 goal Programming들이 개발되고 토의된다. 설계 도구로서 이 방법의 유효성을 논증하기 위하여 사례의 해를 모색하며 이를 다른 연구결과와 비교 검토한다.

As the working speed of the manipulator has been fast, the effect of nonlinear forces has become serious. So more improvement of performance cannot be expected by the control of manipulator using approximate linearization. As an approach for solving these problems, there is a method that eliminates nonlinear terms by feedback law. On the basis of this method, the nonlinear control theory makes possible decoupling of coupling terms and arbitrary arranging of poles. The control law is applied to a basic industrial robot which has been used in the field needed for high accuracy. By simulating position, velocity, torque and tracing trajectory, it can be concluded that the control results are reasonable. The relations between the coefficients of the linearized differential equations and the maximum error and torque for prescribed trajectory are also examined. Finally, the method for selecting the values for getting the most rapid and precise response within maximum torque of each drive is suggested in the choice of coefficients of characteristic equations obtained as a result of the control.

Useful information can be obtained by applying contour following and edge detection method to the data of digital image processing, vision system and three dimensional workspace of robot manipulator. In this study, to consider weakness and strength of contour following methods such as grid, improved grid method and triangle tracer method, these contour following and edge detection methods are applied to detect contour of basic figures, and the results are compared and examined. Triangle tracer method takes more time to trace contour, but needs less number of points that present contour than grid and improved grid methods. Especially superiority of triangle tracer method in contour following for an edge shape is demonstrated.
