A reinforced hydraulic hose includes rebar layers of a steel wire to control internal pressure. Usually, the hose behavior is affected by the resultant of the longitudinal and circumferential forces produced by the internal pressure. The rebar layers can appear the most ideal rebar effect when they are arranged to the same direction as the resultant force. The braid angle applied in the rebar layers is an important factor in determining ultimate burst pressure and overall hose life. In this paper, especially the rebar element were used to take the layer orientation such as the relative position, the number and the angle into consideration. The stress variation characteristics of a reinforced hydraulic hose is analyzed with respect to the internal pressure using the finite element method.

A power steering hose is generally manufactured by the swaging process. In this process the hose is inserted into metal fittings and compressed in the radial direction by the jaws to clamp the hose with metal fittings together. In case they are subjected to various mechanical and thermal loads under the real operating conditions, the oil in hose can leak at the parts of small clamping forces. Also, jaw stroke is very important design factor during the swaging process. In this paper, the contact forces between the power steering hose and the metal fittings are analyzed with respect to the jaw stroke using the finite element method. Investigations were focused on the stress and strain values at the maximum jaw and the contact normal forces after the jaw release, between the hoses and the metal fittings.
