Building materials are composed of very complex chemical compounds, and these indoor building materials discharge very much Volatile Organic Compounds(VOCs). We performed the environmental chamber test to investigate the Total VOCs(TVOCs) emission characteristics and emission factors about chemical and natural coating materials. As the result, we concluded that TVOCs emission are high at initial time and decreased in course of time. Natural paint was low emission level for TVOCs than chemical paint by small chamber test. The TVOCs emission factor-time profile showed a good fit with the results from the measured and predicted value.

The variation of the particle size distribution and density as well as the chemical composition of aerosols is important to evaluate the particles. This study measured and analyzed airborne particles using a scanning mobility particle sizer (SMPS) system and an aerodynamic particle sizer (APS) at the University of Seoul during every season. The highest particle number concentration of airborne particles less than $0.9\;{\mu}m$, occurred in winter, while the highest particle number concentration of airborne particles more than $0.9\;{\mu}m$, occurred in spring. Mass concentration appeared highest at spring. Also, when we compared $\beta$-ray's mass concentration with calculated mass concentration by using the SMPS-APS system during each season, density of the winter is $1.92\;g/cm^3$, spring density is $1.64\;g/cm^3$, fall density is $1.57\;g/cm^3$. We found out that PM10 density was differ every season. However, while the calculated density is whole density for PM10 the density of each diameter was different. In this study the density estimation equation of the QCM cascade impactor measured mass concentration of each diameter.

Due to the increasing need for the office supplies and the building materials, the emissions of various carbonyl compounds occur in the indoor environment, In this study, we investigated the emission characteristics of carbonyl compounds indoor environment with a major emphasis on formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, and acrolein. In order to understand the distribution characteristics of these carbonyl compounds, measurements were undertaken for three months (April to June 2007) to cover a total of 60 newly built apartments (i.e, ones built less than three months). The concentrations of formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, and acrolein measured during the entire study period averaged as 231 ± 164, 60.3 ± 28.9, and 7.8 ± 10.9 ㎍ m 3, respectively (N = 60). Evaluation of threshold limit values (TLVs : TLV of a chemical substance defines the reasonable level to which a worker can be exposed without adverse health effects. Strictly speaking, TLV is a reserved term of the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH)) indicates that formaldehyde and acetaldehyde data exceeded the allowable values by 43 and 58 percent, respectively. In the case of total carbonyl compounds, 95 percent of the data exceeded the allowable TLV values.
