애니메이션 영화에 나타난 ‘장난꾸러기 캐릭터’의 특징 연구

연구배경: 스토리텔링의 방식과 형태는 기술 및 문화의 발전과 변화만큼 다각화되고 있다. 디지털화라는 기술을 동반한 문화의 대혁명을 이루는 과정에서도 스토리텔링이라는 핵심 콘텐츠는 계속해 강화되고 있는 실정이다. 이야기 산업의 성장세와 이야기에 대한 끊임없는 인류의 관심은 이야기 자체가 인생이며 우리 삶의 모방이라는데 있다. 모든 이야기에는 등장인물이 있고 등장인물은 이야기 구성의 필수요소이다. 즉 이야기는 캐릭터들의 내면과 외현적 상호작용의 표현이다. 이러한 측면에서 캐릭터의 분석과 연구는 내러티브의 구성요소의 측면을 통한 캐릭터의 내재적 특징과 캐릭터의 외모에서 나타나는 시각적 특징이 반영되어야 캐릭터 고유의 특징과 그 의미를 발견할 수 있다. 본 연구는 이러한 배경 하에 1차적으로 인물의 서사적 기능을 중심으로 분류하기에 합당한 조셉 캠벨의 7가지 캐릭터 원형 중 희화된 캐릭터인 장난꾸러기 캐릭터를 중심으로 캐릭터의 성격적 특징을 분석하고 2차적으로는 롤랑바르트의 신화론을 차용하여 캐릭터들의 외모에서 나타나는 시각적 특징을 통한 내재적, 외현적 캐릭터의 특징을 살피고자 한다. 연구방법: 본 연구는 분석대상 애니메이션인 ‘쿵푸펜더 2’, ‘겨울왕국’, ‘인사이드 아웃’, ‘슈렉 2’, ‘하울의 움직이는 성’의 총 5편을 전문가 그룹에 의해 조셉 캠벨의 7가지의 캐릭터 원형으로 분류한 후 ‘장난꾸러기’ 캐릭터로 분류된 캐릭터들을 롤랑바르트의 신화구조를 기반으로 분석하여 ‘장난꾸러기’ 캐릭터의 특징을 살핀다. 연구결과: 본 연구의 결과로 나타난 장난꾸러기 캐릭터의 표현 이미지 특징은 하울을 제외한 모든 캐릭터에서 ’귀여움’이 가장 큰 특징으로 나타났다. 내용 이미지 특징으로는 ‘긍정’, ‘낙천’의 밝은 성격 특징들이 나타났다. 결론: 본 연구의 결과를 통해 발견한 장난꾸러기 캐릭터의 외현적 특징은 ‘귀여움’으로 애니메이션 영화의 장르적 특징이 반영된 것으로 보인다. 내용 이미지인 내현적 특징은 내러티브의 특성에 따라 좀 더 다양하게 표현된 것을 알 수 있으나 ‘긍정’, ‘낙천’의 밝은 성격 특징들이 강조된 캐릭터임을 알 수 있었다. Background: The growth of the storytelling industry and continued interest of human being in storytelling results from the fact that storytelling itself is our life and imitation of our life. Like such, all stories have characters and the characters are the essential element to story composition. In other words, storytelling is the expression of the inner side of the characters and the explicit interaction. From these perspectives, it is possible to find the authentic characteristics and meaning only when the analysis and research of the characteristics is conducted from the perspectives of narrative components. This research aimed to analyze the characteristics of the characters focusing on the caricatured Trickster characters among the 7 character archetypes by Joseph Campbell that are suitable to be categorized based on the narrative function of the characters under the situation, and the research results can serves as a basic resource for development of the characters, which is the key element of the storytelling. Methods: This research categorized a total of 6 animations including ‘Kung Fu Panda 2’, ‘Frozen’, ‘Inside Out’, ‘Shurek 2’ and ‘How’s Moving Castle’into the 7 character archetypes of Christopher Vogler by the expert group and specifically identified the characteristics of the ‘Trickster’ character by analyzing the character using the myth-structure of Roland Barthes. Result: One of the biggest characteristics of the expressive image of the Trickster character in the research was ‘cute’ in all characters except for Howl. The content image had the characteristics of the dynamic, progressive and positive personality, kindliness and affection. Conclusion: The explicit characteristic of the Trickster character in this research was ‘cute’, indicating that the genre characteristics of animation movie were reflected. While the internal characteristics of the content image were more diversely expressed according to the narrative characteristics, the characters had the positive and warmhearted personality, emphasized with the active and progressive characteristics.

웹드라마 ‘간서치 열전’의 내러티브 및 캐릭터 특징 고찰

연구 배경 : 다양화된 디지털 기기의 보급과 고용량 데이터 통신이 가능한 통신 기술의 진보는 대중들의 미디어 콘텐츠 수용 방식에도 큰 변화를 가져왔다. 아시아투데이(2015. 1. 21) 기사에 소개된 제일기획의 2014년 조사에 나타난 소비자 트렌드는 스낵 컬처, 멀티태스킹, 능동적 사용자였다. 이러한 결과 중 스낵 컬처는 주목할 필요가 있는 현상으로 문화 콘텐츠의 새로운 수렴 방식인 새로운 문화 트렌드이다. ‘스낵 컬처’라는 문화 현상을 토대로 성장하고 있는 웹툰이나 웹드라마 등의 성장세는 괄목할 만하며 이와 관련된 연구는 시도되고 있으나 이러한 토대 하의 콘텐츠 관련 연구는 미흡한 실정이다. 본 연구는 이러한 실정에서 시도하는 기초연구로 웹드라마 "간서치 열전"의 내러티브 구조 및 캐릭터 특징의 고찰을 통해 새로운 문화 수렴 현상 가운데의 콘텐츠 특징을 연구하는 연구 토대를 만들어가기 위한 기초 연구로 시행되었다. 이를 기반으로 한 추후 연구를 통해서는 분석 대상 콘텐츠의 범위를 확장하여 기획 및 제작 시에 활용 가능한 포괄적 연구를 기대한다. 연구 방법 : 웹드라마는 기존 TV 드라마가 가지는 40-60분의 상영시간과는 다른 5분-15분이라는 상영시간과 총 10-15회 연재로 구성되는 특징을 가진다. 연재라는 측면에서의 공통점은 존재하지만 각 회별 상영시간의 차이가 내러티브 구조에는 영향을 미칠 것이라는 가정 하에 웹드라마 ‘간서치 열전’을 크리스토퍼 보글러의 ‘12 영웅 여정 단계’를 통해 내러티브의 구조적 특징을 살펴보고 캐릭터 원형에 따른 캐릭터 분석을 통해 캐릭터의 특징을 살펴본다. 연구 결과 : 본 연구의 결과로는 첫째, 웹드라마‘간서치 열전’의 내러티브와 캐릭터를 분석을 시행한 결과 영웅 여정 단계 중 ③단계를 제외한 나머지 11개의 단계는 구조적으로 일치하는 것을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 캐릭터 원형의 측면에서 발견된 특징은 주요 캐릭터가 두 가지 이상의 원형을 갖는 특징이었다. 결론 : ‘간서치 열전’의 내러티브 구조 중 3단계의 생략은 영웅이 소명을 거부한 시점에서 이야기를 시작함으로 5-15분이라는 짧은 러닝 타임의 웹드라마적 특징이 나타난 부분으로 볼 수 있으며, 캐릭터 원형의 측면에서도 주요 캐릭터가 두 가지 이상의 원형을 갖는 특징이었는데 이는 제한된 짧은 상영시간 동안 상영하여야 하는 웹드라마의 함축적 구조 특징으로 해석할 수 있다. Background : The supply of diversified digital devices and advancement of communications technology that enables high-capacity data communications have brought remarkable changes to the way people accept media contents. The consumer trends in the 2014 survey by Cheil Worldwide Inc., introduced in the Asia Today article (Jan. 21, 2015), consisted of snack culture, multitasking and active users. Among them, snack culture is a new cultural trend for collecting cultural contents that is worthy of notice. The growth of webtoons or web dramas based on the cultural phenomenon of "snack culture" is outstanding. While various attempts have been made to study this phenomenon, there are insufficient researches on related contents. This study is a basic research initiative to establish the foundation for the exploration of content characteristics amidst the new cultural convergence by examining the narrative structure and characters in the web drama "The Tale of the Bookworm." Future researches based on this study will feature a comprehensive research approach applicable to planning and production by expanding the scope of contents to be analyzed. Methods : This study will find the features by analyzing the narrative structure and characters of web dramas as a basic research on web drama planning. Web dramas are 5-15 minutes long unlike the conventional TV dramas that are 40-60 minutes long, and consist of total 10-15 episodes. These two types of dramas share the similarity that both are in the form of series, but this study will examine how the different running time for each episode affects the narrative structure by analyzing the web drama titled "The Tale of the Bookworm". Result : According the analysis, "The Tale of the Bookworm" followed the twelve stages of the Hero"s journey by Christopher Vogler, except the third stage. Conclusion : It was also found that letter informations have different visual effect, depending on the characteristics of their visual attributes. In this study, the results showed that balanced illusory letters with straight and curved lines are perceived beautiful.
