애니메이션의 일반적인 스토리는 주연과 악당과의 대립이 전통적인 내러티브이며 관객을 몰입시키는 중심에 있었다. 최근에는 ‘신 스틸러’라는 말이 널리 알려지며 조연도 주연 못지않은 주목을 받기 시작했다. 등장인물을 구성하는 조연, 악당, 엑스트라는 스토리의 필수요소로 존재해왔지만 이들이 관객의 이목을 더욱 끌게 된 것은 오늘날 조연캐릭터가 갖게 된 캐릭터성과도 관련이 있다. 본 연구에서는 블라디미르 프롭의 <민담형태론>을 적용해 조연을 조력자 역할의 캐릭터로 정의하고 캐릭터를 구성하는 시각적 요소 중 하나인 색채체계를 분석했다. 스킨/털, 헤어, 눈, 의상으로 색상을 분류하여 주연과 적절히 조화를 이루면서도 조연캐릭터를 효과적으로 표현할 수 있는 색채 사용방안을 모색하기 위해 색채조화와 색사용빈도를 분석 연구하였다. 결론적으로 조연과 주연캐릭터에 모두 먼셀코드 YR, R, Y의 순서로 색이 가장 많이 사용된 것을 알 수 있었다. 이는 YR, R, Y의 공통점인 난색의 활동적인 성격과도 일치한다. YR의 색사용빈도가 가장 높은 점은 색에 관한 연상이 상반적으로 일어나는 것과도 관련이 있다. R은 열정, 강렬함과 동시에 위험, 피, 분노를 연상하고 Y 역시 즐거움, 활력과 주의가 함께 연상되기 때문이다. 반면에 YR은 따뜻함, 명랑함, 생동감과 같은 특질만을 갖고 있다. 캐릭터가 많이 등장하는 팀 캐릭터인 경우 색채조화가 동색 또는 인접색으로 구성되었지만 조연과 주연과의 털색 또는 조연의 의상색이 보색으로 이루어진 경우가 더 많았다. When it comes to general animation stories, confrontation between hero and villain has lead the whole narrative and it allowed audiences to get immersed into the story. Since people commonly used the word ‘scene-stealer’, sub character began to come into the spotlight as much as main character. Though the types of characters such as sub, villain, or extra have been existed, the reason of great attraction for audiences to those characters is related to a trait of the character. This study defines sub character as in a role of a helper using <Morphology of the Folk Tale> by Vladimir Propp and analyses color system which is one of important visual elements in character design. Each color for analysing color use frequency is categorized according to skin/fur, hair, eye, and costume in order to present a method to use color properly harmonized with main character and express sub character itself. In conclusion, the most highly used color was Munsell code YR, R, and Y in both main and helper characters. It matches to dynamic and warm features of YR, R, and Y. The reason of highest use frequency in YR is related to conflicting associations. Red is associated with both passion, intensity, at the same time, danger, blood, and anger. Y is associated with joy, vitality and warning. On the other hand, YR is associated only positive features such as warm, cheerful, and lively. In case of a team character use monochromatic or analogous color scheme, on the other hand, fur color with helper character and main character, or costume color of helper character use complimentary color scheme.
