        It has long since been recognized that the development of atherosclerosis is considered to be closely related to the degree and duration of hypercholesterolemia and. lipid metabolism is important in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis. Among the factors related to disturbance of lipid metabolism, there is abundant evidence in the literature that one of the main factors which influences the metabolism of lipids and cholesterol is the secretion of the endocrine glands of (Duell, 1955; Pincus, 1959). The role of the thyroid in controlling the level of plasma lipids and cholesterol is best established, and other endocrine glands such as pituitary, adrenals, gonads, and pancreas also effect the utilization of lipids and cholesterol (Rosenman et al, 1951 & 1952 b; Friedman et al., 1952 a & b; Stamler, 1953). The mechanism by which the thyroid hormone affects cholesterol metabolism is not yet known, but there is evidence to suggest that cholesterol destruction is elevated in hyperthyroid rats (Byers et al., 1952c). Hence, it is assumed that the thyroid hormone acts on cholesterol metabolism via the liver (Rosenman et al., 1952b). The liver is the organ where cholesterol synthesis predominantly occurs (Cornforth,. 1959), and is the main source for the plasma cholesterol (Friedman et al., 1951. a & b), Although biliary concentration of cholesterol is a reliable index of the rate of hepatic synthesis of this substance (Byers & Friedman, 1952 a & b), cholesterol synthesis may also occur elsewhere (Friedman et al., 1955; Beher et al. (1956). This is strongly supported by the fact that the concentration of desmosterol in, several tissues may be higher than that observed in the liver and serum. Therefore, the levels of circulating cholesterol seems to be regulated by a dynamic interchange of cholesterol between blood and tissues stores (reversible pool), which would depend upon the amount of cholesterol available to the different areas of the body. Induced hypercholesterolemia, when sufficiently prolonged, results in atherosclerosis in many animals. Dogs and especially rats are resistant; resistance in dogs, however, can be overcome feeding large amounts of cholesterol during induced hypothyroidism (Steiner & Kendall, 1946). The rat is generally considered to be very resistant to development of atherosclerosis. Although numerous attempts to produce atherosclerosis this species have been recorded, most have been completely unsuccessful (Horlick & Havel, 1948; Kendlla 1949; Marx et al., 1949; Altschul, 1950; Katz & Stamler, 1953), and the few reported instances of deposition of lipid in rat arteries have apparently had little resemblance to human atheros (Page & Brown, 1952; Bragden & Boyle, 1952 Wiissler et al., 1954; Fillios, et al., 1956). The nature of this resistance to the development of experimental atherosclerosiss is unknown, and its elucidation on mechanisms is vital to further knowledge of the pathogenesis of the disease. One of the factors involved in the process of resistance may be hormonal (Steiner and Kendall, 1946) Therefore, in rats a faw causes for natural resistance may be considered:1) endogenous destruction of the additional cholesterol; 2) excretion of the additional amount ingested viathe bile and the gastrointestinal tract;3) diminished endogenous synthesis of cholesterol in balance the additional amount ingested; 4) storage of the additional cholesterol outside the blood stream. The majority of the studies, particularly in rats, have dealt mainly with the fluctuation of Plasma lipid levels and the production of atherosclerosis, but very little attention has been paid to lipid distribution with in various organs. Also it is recognized that the level of plasma lipid alone cannot adequately explain the varied features of the diseases resulting from disturbances in lipid metabolism. Therefore, study of the pattern of tissue lipid distribution in hypothyroid and partial hepatectomized, alone or combined, rats seems appropriate and important Moreover in order to consider the resistance of the production of atheromatous arterial lesions in rats. it is important to evaluate the factors which regulate lipid metabolism. The purpose of this study is to characterize the patterns of tissue lipid distribution and define the nature of the morphological changes in various organs in rats, after prolonged administration of high concentration of cholesterol. At the same time, the effect of Tapazole (antithyroid) and of partial hepatectomy was evaluated as to mechanism (s) involved in their action on tissue lipid alterations.

      • 갑상선 병변에서의 galectin-3 단백질 발현양상

        Galectin-3 is a protein of the lectin family that has been associated with neoplastic processes in various tissues. The significant expression of this protein has been described in differentiated thyroid carcinoma, suggesting that the immunohistochemical study of galectin-3 may be a potential tool for differential diagnosis of malignancy in thyroid neoplasms. The expression of galectin-3 protein was immunohistochemically examined in total of 64 cases: 19 papillary carcinomas, 8 follicular carcinomas, 2 Hürthle cell carcinomas, 2 medullary carcinomas, 1 anaplastic carcinoma, 14 follicular adenomas, 4 Hürthle cell adenomas, 8 nodular hyperplasias, 3 Graves' diseases, 3 Hashimoto's thyuoiditis, and 20 adjacent normal thyroid tissues. Imunohistochemical analysis revealed that all papillary carcinomas showed high and diffuse expression of galectin-3, whereas 5 of 8 follicular carcinomas displayed weak and/or focal expression of galectin-3. Non of the normal thyuoid tissue expressed galectin-3. One of 14 follicular adenomas and 1 of 8 nodular hyperplasias showed weak and focal expression of galection-3. So, immunohistochemical study of galectin-3 may be useful in the identification of papillary thyroid cancer, but does not appear to be useful in distinguishing follicular carcinoma from follicular adenoma. The role of galectin-3 protein as tumor marker of thyroid lesions remains to be further elucidated.

        Thrombosis of deep cerebral veins including internal cerebral vein, great vein of Galen and straight sinus are frequently associated with thalamic and other deep cerebral infarction or hemorrhage, with lead severe neurologic deficits or death. Iron deficiency anemia and antiphospholipid antibody syndrome are the factors causing cerebral venous thrombosis in adult. We report a case of deep cerebral vein thrombosis associated with iron deficiency anemia and antiphospholipid antibody syndrome which was confirmed by MRI and angiogram.

        The purpose of this study is to develop a live load model for the design and construction of passenger car bridges. The passenger car live loads that are developed in this study corresponds to the truck live loads in the existing highway bridge design standards. The survey for the dimensions and weights of passenger cars is necessary to develop design live loads. Dimensions of design cars were determined from the survey of cars that are produced in Korea in 2002. Car weight data were taken from the weight survey data for the development of design live loads for passenger car parking garages in USA. Data of car dimensions and weights were used to calculate the maximum load effects(moment and shear) in structures. The probability distribution of the extreme load effects for the design life of the structures were determined from the statistical analysis. From the probability distribution of the extreme load effects. uniformly distributed lane loads were calculated. Uniformly distributed lane loads are the live loads for the design of long span bridges. For the design of short span bridges or slabs, a design passenger car was developed.

        다발성 흉추간판탈출증 : 2례 증례보고 Report of 2 Cases

        The authors describe 2 cases of multiple thoracic disc herniations in the level of T5∼6, T6∼7, T7∼8 and T8∼9, T9∼10, T10∼11. Thoracic disc herniation is rare and occurs in less than 4% of all disc diseases. Moreover, multiple thoracic disc herniation is very rare and only 7 cases were reported in the literatures, which occured at two levels in 6 cases and five levels in one case. The lesions were determined by thoracic CT myelogram and MRI study. A microsurgical posterolateral approach made them curative. Surgical instruments such as downbite currette and surgical microscope were essential for successful treatment.

        The authors analysed 6 cases of lumbosacral tumors simulating lumbar disc diseases. Spine CT scan is the important diagnostic method for the investiagation of lumbar disc diseases. But if the clinical feature is not correlated with lumbar CT scan, myelography must be performed to see any cauda equina tumor. At myelography, contrast medium should be run well up to the thoracic segments routinely, especially if no defect is found in the lumbar area.

        지식경영의 인식도와 정보기술 활용도가 정보시스템의 통합과 경영성과에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구

        Recently the paradigm of business management has changed. The businesses have restored to ERP or BPR to integrate their information system. But now they are trying to find out a new competitiveness in tacit knowledge of individuals. The creative company has come to put much weigh on the value of their employee's "non-patternized" knowledge. And this trend has seen a development into a theory of knowledge management in which "non-patternized" knowledge, along with explicit knowledge, is also considered as a source of competitiveness. With the hypothesis that the recognition of the knowledge management and the utilization of the information technology will have influence on the integration of the integrating the information system information system into a new phase, this study carries out a research on the effects of knowledge management and information technology on management achievement. According to this study the distribution of knowledge has an effect on the integration of information system and management achievement. The asset of knowledge, however, has little effect on them. This means that the recognition of the asset of knowledge alone can't affect the management achievement, but when combined with the recognition of the distribution of knowledge, it can have influence on the management achievement. Thus, a company has to enhance the recognition of the distribution of knowledge. And with this, a company can have a business management based on management achievement and the integration of information system utilizing information technology and the recognition of knowledge management. A company has to promote it business achievement by integrating the information system utilizing information technology and recognizing knowledge management.

        A rare case of cerebellar infarction is presented' with the finding of CT scan and angiography. In the case of cerebellar infarction, early diagnosis and emergency posterior fossa decompression is the important point in the rapidly deteriorating patient due to brain stem compression.
