Objectives. Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress is known to be associated with inflammatory airway diseases, and three major transmembrane receptors: double-stranded RNA-activated protein kinase-like ER kinase, inositol requiring enzyme 1, and activating transcription factor 6 (ATF6) play important roles in ER stress-related proinflammatory signaling. However, the effects of ER stress and these three major signaling pathways on the regulation of the production of airway mucins in human nasal airway epithelial cells have not been elucidated. Methods. In primary human nasal epithelial cells, the effect of tunicamycin (an ER stress inducer) and 4-phenylbutyric acid (4-PBA, ER stress inhibitor) on the expression of MUC5AC and MUC5B was investigated by reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction, real-time polymerase chain reaction, enzyme immunoassay, and immunoblot analysis. Small interfering RNA (siRNA) transfection was used to identify the mechanisms involved. Results. Tunicamycin increased the expressions of MUC5AC and MUC5B and the mRNA expressions of ER stress-related signaling molecules, including spliced X-box binding protein 1 (XBP-1), transcription factor CCAAT-enhancer-binding protein homologous protein (CHOP), and ATF6. In addition, 4-PBA attenuated the tunicamycin-induced expressions of MUC5AC and MUC5B and the mRNA expressions of ER stress-related signaling molecules. Furthermore, siRNA knockdowns of XBP-1, CHOP, and ATF6 blocked the tunicamycin-induced mRNA expressions and glycoprotein productions of MUC5AC and MUC5B. Conclusion. These results demonstrate that ER stress plays an important role in the regulation of MUC5AC and MUC5B via the activations of XBP-1, CHOP, and ATF6 in human nasal airway epithelial cells.

Background and Objectives:A large amount of information related to paranasal sinusitis is available on the internet; however, little is known about the quality and content of such information. We assessed paranasal sinusitis-related information on web sites of western and eastern physicians. Materials and Methods:Using the search engine of Naver and Daum, a total of 159 web sites (108 by western physicians, 51 by eastern physicians) were identified by the keyword search “paranasal sinusitis” and were classified using the categories of location and field of contents. These web sites were evaluated for several aspects, and an informational value score was assigned to each. Results:Regarding the location, Seoul (38), Gyeonggi (28), Busan (10) accounted for 70% of sites by western physicians, compared with 76% for the eastern physicians [Seoul (27), Gyeonggi (9), Busan (3)]. With respect to content, main content and Q/A were excellent in sites by eastern physicians whereas clinical schedule was excellent in those by western physicians. The mean informational value of the web sites was 5.17 for western physicians and 2.19 for eastern physicians (p<0.05). Conclusion:Web sites on paranasal sinusitis concentrated very firmly on metropolitan areas. Web sites by western physicians provided better paranasal sinusitis-related information than those by eastern physicians.

목적 : 본 연구의 목표는 서울지역 20대 MZ세대 집단이 인식하는 해외 안경테 브랜드 국가의 감성의미를 도출하는 것이다. 방법 : 먼저 연구 대상으로 이탈리아, 프랑스, 미국, 일본 4개국을 선정하였다. 의미분별법을 이용하여 감성어휘 8개를 추출한 다음, 설문조사와 통계처리를 통하여 각각의 국가별로 해당되는 감성어휘를 결정하였고, 해외 안경테 브랜드 국가에 대한 선호도 조사를 추가로 실시하였다. 결과 : 이탈리아, 프랑스, 미국, 일본의 4가지 해외 안경테 브랜드 국가들에 대하여 각각 고급스러움, 매력적임, 실용적임, 동양적임이라는 감성어휘를 가장 많이 선택하였다. 안경테에 대한 선호도 순위는 이탈리아, 프랑스, 미국, 일본 순으로 나타났다. 결론 : 도출된 감성어휘들과 응답자들의 선호도를 분석했을 때, 고급스러움과 디자인적 측면을 중시하는 MZ세대의 플렉스 소비 성향에는 이탈리아와 프랑스 브랜드의 안경테가 가정 적합한 것으로 여겨진다 Purpose : The purpose of this study is to derive the connotative meaning of overseas eyewear frame brand countries recognized by the MZ generation in their 20s in Seoul. Methods : Four eyewear frame brand countries were selected: Italy, France, the United States of America and Japan. After extracting 8 emotional vocabularies using the semantic differential method, the connotative meaning corresponding to each country was determined through a questionnaire and statistical analysis. An additional survey about preference to eyewear frame brand countries was also conducted. Results : For each of the four overseas eyeglass frame brand countries of Italy, France, USA, and Japan, 'luxurious', 'charming', 'practical', and 'oriental' were mainly selected, respectively. The preference to eyewear frame brand countries was in the order of Italy, France, USA, and Japan. Conclusion : Analysing the derived connotative meaning and the respondents' preferences, We think Italian- and French- brand eyeglass frames are most suitable for the MZ generation's flex consumption propensity that values luxury and design
