The isotherm of heterocyclic compound in aqueous solution onto activated carbon was correlated with Freundlich type equation, and Freundlich constant product [k·n] appeared linear relationship with boiling point(T_b). Saturated adsorbed amount(q_s) decreased with hammett constant(σ), inductive constant (σ^*) and polar constant(F). Surface diffusion was considered to be dominant. Relationship between surface diffusivity(D_s) and equilibrium adsorbed amount(q_e) was D_s=D_(so)·exp[a·q_e]. Kinetic parameter D_(so) and a was shown Table 5 for kind and position of functional groups.

Uptake curves were obtained for p-nitrophenol/XAD-2000 resin system using a shallow-bed method for various concentration ranges at 298.2K. Distilled water was employed as solvent. The values of effective intraparticle diffusivity were detrermined by comparing experimental and theoretical uptake curves. The values obtained for solvent i. e, distilled water system was not dependent on the amount adsorbed in the higher concentration range. Those results shows that, except in the region where there is a low adsorbed amount, and adsorber packed with macrorecticular resin particles can be designed using a traditional pore diffusion model.
活性炭을 利用한 CYANIDE錯陰이온의 吸着特性에 關한 硏究

The adsorption characteristics of complex anion compose of cadmium ion and cyanide ion on activated carbon from coconut shell by steam activation has been studied. From the adsortion of cadmium ion on activated carbon in the presence of cyanide ion, it was found that the following results; 1) Cadmium ion was adsorbed on activated carbon in the from of complex anion such as Cd (CN)_4^(2-). 2) The adsorption of cadmium cyanide compex anion was governed primarily by pCN and amount of adsorption increase with increaing cyanide ion : Cd^(2+) ratio. 3) In the case of lower concentration, the adsorption isotherms were found to conform with the Freundlich equation, but the other range was approximately expressed by q = 1.97C/1+0.45C^0.8

Experiments and theoretical analysis of the adsorption of phenols in the fixed bed column packed with activated carbon were performed and following results were obtained. 1. Experimental results shows good agreement with theoretical model on the adsorption of phenols in the fixed bed column. 2. In the adsorption column, particle size has critical effect on the break point compared with flow rate and height of bed. 3. Theoretical model established in this experiment can estimate the optimum values of various factors. 4. Domestic activated carbon has nearly same amount of adsorption as imported activated cabon. 5. Equilibrium relationships and diffusion coefficients from the experiments on the nitrophenols also showed good agreement with those from theoretical model.

From the experiments on the adsorption of binary mixtures of benzoic acid-phenol in the fixed bed column packed with activated carbon, the following results are obtained. 1. For the equilibrium adsorption of unicomponent and binary system are fairly well consistent with freundlich's equation. 2. The breakthrough time and selective separation are linearly increased with the lengh of adsorption column. And the slope of benzoic acid which has large equilibrium adsorption is larger than that of pherol. 3. The substitunt coefficients increase with the concentration ratio. 4. The increase in the flow rate does not bring the equivalent increase in the breakthrough time.
