Adaptive control of a nuclear power plant is considered for the case of load-following operation in the pressurized water reactors(PWR). In order to perform the steady state and load-following operation in PWR plant, 11th order nonlinear model for the reactor and steam generator is derived, and linearized by Taylor series at 50[%] of full power. Adaptive control system of the PWR plant is designed by adaptive model following control with signal synthesis adaptation of Liapunov. This system proposed in this paper has a fast and good response under the step change of demanded power. Simulation results indicate that it is quite possible to obtain adaptive control system of the PWR plant under load-following operation.

Aim of this paper is to investigate an applicability of the fuzzy model reference learning control(FMRLC) to control the AC servo motor with variable speeds and loads. FMRLC design is based on the MRAC(model reference adaptive control), and the fuzzy learning mechanism using the knowledge base modifier. Simulation results showed that the good operating characteristics of the response of the FMRLC of the AC servo motor to follow the desired output of the reference model. It is expecting that the FMRLC design method will be applied to the various fields.

Self-tuning control is the one of the various useful methods to control the system of which dynamic characteristics are varying during continuing operation. Thus, self-tuning adaptive control of a pressurized water reacter (PWR) is considered to adapt the disturbances, the parameter variations, and a change of demanded load. Low-order (2nd) model of the nuclear/thermal part of a PWR is derived by approximation to design the self-tuning controller of a nuclear reactor. For online identification and minimal computation, the extended least square method is used to estimates the parameters of a nuclear reactor. It is confirmed that the self-tuning adaptive controller by the pole-placement proposed in this paper has a good convergence properly, a small error of parameter estimation, and a good response of a change of demanded load. Simulation results indicate that it is quite possible to design and apply the self-tuning adaptive control to the real PWR plant.
