        추출 방법에 따른 후박나무 잎과 가지 추출물의 항산화 및 항염증 효과

        An ethnic plant of Machilus thunbergii (MT), belonging to the family Lauracecae, grows in warm areas of South Korea and Japan, China, and Philippines. In this study, we investigated the possible utilization of MT extracts from leaves and branch with different extraction methods for the investigation of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. The leaves and branch of MT were treated with hot water, ultra-sonic cold water, 70% ethanol, and 100% ethanol to prepare the extracts. The extracts were analyzed for total phenolic and flavonoid contents as well as antioxidant properties such as DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) free radical scavenging activity and 2,2-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazo-line-6-sulfonic acid)diammonium salt (ABTS) radical scavenging activity. The highest total phenolic and flavonoid contents were found in the 100% ethanol fraction in branch and 70% ethanol fraction in leaves (311.38 ± 7.94 mg gallic acid equivalent (GAE)/g extract and 20.02 ± 2.45 mg Quercetin equivalent (QE)/g extract respectively). The 70% ethanol fraction and 100% ethanol fraction showed the strongest anti-oxidant activities in DPPH and ABTS assays. These results suggest that MT extract provides promising antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, and can be used as natural cosmetic substances in cosmetic industries in near future.

        추출 방법에 따른 금화규 꽃 추출물의 항산화 활성 및 성분 함량 분석

        Aurea helianthus (AH), one of representative warm-temperature plant in southern Korea, is traditionally used in China for various medicinal purposes. The bioactive constituents from aerial parts of the AH leaf and stem as well as flowers have been studied by several researchers showing anti-inflammation, immune-modulatory, antioxidant, and whitening effects. However, the effects of the AH flower on the biological activities for cosmetic application have not been thoroughly investigated. This study reported the possible utilization of AH flower extracts (AHF) with different extraction methods and validated antioxidant and analysis of the bioactive components. The AHF was treated with hot water, cold water, 70% ethanol respectively. Besides component analysis of the extract, the antioxidant activities were determined with 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical scavenging and 2,2"-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) radical scavenging assay. The 70% ethanol extracts showed the highest antioxidant activities and active ingredient contents like the total phenolic, flavonoid and sugar and protein contents. Interestingly, collagen contents and free amino acids analysis were determined maximum in the cold-water extracts. Then the diversification and standardization of extraction methods were to be studied further in the future. In summary, AHF are useful plant resources that can provides promising antioxidation and can be used as potential natural cosmetics ingredients and healthy foods.

        국내산 생달나무 오일 추출물의 지용성 성분 및 항산화 활성 검증

        Cinnamomum yabunikkei H. Ohba is known as a traditional medicinal plant in Korea. There has been no study done about the lipid compound and biological activity in solvent extracts of C. yabunikkei. In this study, the solvent extract (hexane, chloroform:methanol [2:1, v/v]) of C. yabunikkei leaf, branch, and fruit were investigated for their antioxidant activities and active constituents. The antioxidant properties were evaluated based on 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical scavenging, ABTS radical scavenging, and lipid peroxidation activity. The branch extract showed the highest DPPH, ABTS, and lipid peroxidation. Antioxidant active substances present in the solvent extract of C. yabunikkei have been analyzed by GC-MS. In summary, C. yabunikkei solvent extracts could be used as a potential natural cosmetic ingredient.
