嶺東地方의 地域中心都市 生活圈 體系硏究(IV) : 相互作用 pattern에 의한 嶺東地方 中心地의 機能的 構造
金慶秋 관동대학교 1996 關大論文集 Vol.24 No.2
This study examines the functional structure of urban system in Yeong Dong Region. The Interaction pattern of regional centers makes conspicuous hierarchical system. This hierarchical system is inspected by the analysis of direct connection method & interaction flow matrix. On the regional scale, Young Dong Region consist of 4 tier hierarchies; that is the 1st orders are Myeon centers, the 2nd orders are small Yeop centers, the 3rd orders are country centers & the last order center is Kang Reung city which is the nodal point virtually in Yeong Dong region. Such a pattern has founded in interaction matrix. Most of centers at each level are connected with Seoul. Such a spatial interaction will be enhanced according to improvement of transportation & communication. This fact is verified by the european urban geographers as Simmon, Pred, & Borchert & the Japanese geographer as Morikawa.

This study examines the spatial system of regional central place. In general regional system has a multi-hierarchical spatial and functional linkage patterns. Centrality which is obtained on the ground of W.K.Davis's location quotient is used to analyse the hierarchical structure. Also, interview and questionary method is added to confine the sphere of wide area in Kang Nung city. The sphere of Kang Nung city include the Yeong Dong region and the part of Yeong Seo region, which are Pyong Chang, Jeong Seon county and Tae Baek city. The hierarchical structure of Yeong Dong regional urban system is organized at 4 tier system, that Kang Nung at the top, Sokcho, Dong Hae, Tae Baek as a 2nd class, Sam Cheok 3rd class, and other central place functioned as a county's center are the 4th class. The hierarchical structure of Yong Dong region is not as like Christaller's central place system which is verified a rigid system.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the hierarchical structure of urban system in Kangwon Province. To attain the purpose, we have attempted to analyze the size of population, administration, transportation and army system. We also quantify the size of population in Choson Dynasty and the period of Japanese Imperialism, and the Centrality in 1998. To verify the validity for alternative criteria, we have inquired the correlation quotients between population and farm land size. In Choson Dynasty, there have no propriate statistical date of urban funtion to quantify the urban hierarchical structure. Only we can wtilize the qualified data which are Jingwan(鎭營), Ryeokwon(驛院) and Gaesugwan(界首官) system that are army, transportation and administration organization in Choson Dynasty. Generrally we identify the 3-4 tier system which are the hierarchical structure of army, transportation and administration organization in that period. But that of Japanese Imperialism and 1998 is 4∼5 tier systems. At present, the central place system is evolved from the hierarchical divisions which are resulted from the growth in administration, commercial functions and the oter special urban functions. The size of farm land can be used as a alternative criteria in Choson Dynasty and the 1998. But that of Japanese Imperialism is in appropriate. Especially the population size of 1998 is very moderate alternative criteria of centrality.
