헤드라이트의 목적은 차량의 운전자, 다른 차량의 운전자 및 플랫폼에 있는 승객에게 운전에 대한 도움 및 경고를 하는 목적이다. 기존에 적용되었던 헤드라이트는 필라멘트 형식의 실드빔 헤드라이트 및 HID (High Intensity Discharge)형식의 고압방전관 형식이 적용되고 있다. 그러나, 수명 및 용량의 문제점으로 헤드라이트의 신뢰성에 문제가 발생되고 있으며, HID 방식의 경우 고속으로 달리는 열차와 열차교차 시 기관사에게 눈부심을 제공하여 운전에 악 영향 (적목현상)을 주며, 열차가 역사 진입 시 승객들에게 눈부심을 제공해 불쾌함을 준다는 단점이 있다. 또한 고압방전관을 구동키 위해 고압모듈, 제어모듈이 필요하며, 이들 장치가 설치되기 위한 공간 확보 와 유지 비용이 많이 든다는 단점이 있다. 이를 개선키 위해 LED 헤드라이트는 아직 국내 철도 차량에는 적용한 사례가 없으며, 해외의 경우는 일부 노선에 적용 및 시행 초기 단계이다. 본 논문은 LED 헤드라이트의 철도 차량에서의 적용 사례 및 개선 사항을 명기하고 있다. The aim of head light is assist and warn to drivers, other train"s drivers and passenger of platform. At the last time, the head light of sealed beam type and HID (High Intensity Discharge) had been applied at the rolling stock. But the head light of sealed beam type has a lot of problem like a lifetime, capacity of power. In case of HID lights, this light gives to drivers the red-eye effect when full duplex trains are passed and when the train will be arrived at the station, this light gives to passenger waiting in station the dazzling effect. Also those lights required the high voltage module and control module to operate the high discharger and additional space and/or cost for installation. The LED head light improved for lifetime and capacity of power should be changed from the sealed beam head light. Therefore, this paper is mentioned the development and application of LED head light. This paper is mentioned the application case and improvement of LED headlight for rolling stock.
