        Estimating stem volume using stem taper equation for Quercus mongolica in South Korea

        This study was conducted to develop a stem volume table for Quercus mongolica in Korea by using Kozak’s stem taper equation. A total of 958 Quercus mongolica sample trees were collected around the country and a growth performance was investigated through compiling data of diameters by stem height and stem analysis. Fitness Index (FI), Bias, and Mean Absolute Deviation (MAD) were used to test the stem taper equation’s fitness. The fitness of the equation was estimated at 98%, bias as 0.0024, and MAD turned out as 0.6814. Furthermore, there was a statistically significant volume difference between the current volume table and the new volume table (p<.005). The result indicates that using the new volume table which reflects the actual forest will reduce a loss when assessing wood resources and also improve the accuracy of forest statistics at national and local governments. A stem volume table, the main result of this research which is utilized by estimated stem taper equation, will provide growth information of Quercus mongolica, one of the main broadleaf species in Korea and furthermore, work as a management indicator for rational forest management.

        수간재적모델에 따른 일본잎갈나무의 수간재적 추정 및 비교

        This study aimed to develop an equation for estimating stem volume for Larix kaempferiin South Korea using independent variables, diameter at breast height (DBH), and height as being closely associated with stem volume. Analysis was conducted on the growth performance of 2,840 Larix kaempferi samples across South Korea after felling them and gleaning diameter data according to both stem height and stem analyses. In order to test the fitness of six different stem taper equations, empirical assessment was conducted for fitness index (FI), bias, mean, and absolute deviation (MAD), and coefficient variation (%CV). The two selectedmodels found to be optimal were the following: model one (     ), established by employing DBH only; and model four (     ) , established by utilizing DBH and height, respectively. The findings of non-linear regression indicated statistical significance (p < 0.05) in a and b, which were the coefficients for the intercepts and slopes of the models. The FI of the models ranged between 94% and 99%, and the bias was close to zero, while MAD ranged from 0.01 to 0.05, and %CV from 5.97 to 14.43, indicating a high level of fitness. Thus, using the suggested models, the basic information necessary for forest management was obtained, and an estimation of the stem volume was effected without delay soon after effecting DBH and height measurements. 본 연구는 수간재적과 상관관계가 높은 흉고직경과 수고를 독립변수로 하여 우리나라 일본잎갈나무의 수간재적 추정식을 개발하고자 하였다. 전국의 분포하고 있는 일본잎갈나무를 총 2,840본의 표준목을 벌채하여 수간고별 직경과 수간석해 자료를 수집하여 생장특성을 조사하였다. 6개의 수간재적모델의 적합도 검정을 위하여 적합도지수, 편차, 평균절대편차, 변이계수를 이용하여 모델의 적합성을 판단하였다. 최종 선정된 모델은 흉고직경만을 이용한 Model 1(     ), 흉고직경과 수고를 이용한 Model 4(     )가 최적의 모델로 선정되었다. 비선형회귀분석을 통한 모델의 절편과기울기계수인 a, b는 0.05수준에서 통계적으로 유의한 값을 보였다. 적합도지수는 94%∼99%로 나타났고, 편차는 두 모델이 0에 근접하였으며, 평균절대편차는 0.01∼0.05, 변이계수는 5.97∼14.43으로 높은 적합도를 보였다. 본 연구에서 제시된 수간재적모델을 이용하여 현장에서 흉고직경 또는 흉고직경과 수고를 측정한 후 바로 재적을 추정할 수 있으며, 산림경영에 필요한 기초 정보를 제공해 줄 것이다.

        변량지수식을 이용한 전국 상수리나무의 입목수간재적표 추정

        This study was conducted to develop a stem volume table for Quercus acutissima in Korea by using Kozak’s stem taper equation. A stem volume table, the main result of this research, which is utilized in the estimated stem taper equation, will provide growth information for Quercus acutissima, one of the main broadleaf species in Korea, and will function as a management indicator for rational forest management. 본 연구는 Kozak 수간곡선모델을 이용하여 우리나라 상수리나무의 입목수간재적표를 개발하고자 수행하였다. 전국의 분포하고 있는 상수리나무를 총 2,700본의 표준목을 벌채하여 수간고별 직경과 수간석해 자료를 수집하여 생장특성을 조사하였다. 수간곡선식의 적합도 검정을 위하여 적합도지수(Fitness index), 편차(Bias), 평균절대편차(Mean Absolute Deviation)를 이용하여 모델의 적합성을 판단하였다. 추정된 모델의 적합도지수는 97%로 나타났고 편차는 0.017, 평균절대편차는 1.118로 높은 적합도를 보였다. 또한 현행재적표와 신규재적표의 재적간의 차이를 분석한 결과, 통계적으로 유의적인 재적차이를 보였다(p = 0.0008, <0.005). 이는 현실림을 반영한 신규재적표를 이용하는 것이 목재자원량의 평가시 손실을 줄이고 국가 및 지자체의 산림통계의 정확도를 향상시킬 것으로 판단된다. 본 연구의 주요한 결과인 추정된 수간곡선식을 이용한 입목수간재적표는 우리나라의 주요 활엽수종인 참나무류 중 상수리나무의 생장 정보 및 합리적 경영을 위한경영제표가 될 것으로 판단된다.

        식재기구에 따른 소나무 용기묘의 초기생장특성

        In this study, containerized seedlings of Pinus densiflora (2-0) were planted in Iso-ri, Hwadong-myeon, Sangju-si, Gyeongbuk on April, 2015. It was planted by lightweight planting auger that Kyungpook University has developed and mattock which is the general planting method of containerized seedlings. With the square planting method (1.8×1.8 m), 225 trees were planted respectively and about 2 years of initial growth, survival rate and seedling quality index (SQI) were analyzed and investigated. According to the analysis result, the average root collar diameter (mm) of planted containerized seedlings that used lightweight planting auger and mattock reached 3.77 and 3.94 in 2015, 18.73 and 15.32 in 2016, and 27.8 and 23.9 in 2017 respectively. In addition, the average height of containerized seedlings rated 33.4 and 33.4 in 2015, 89.8 and 74.7 in 2016 and 120.7 and 97.9 in 2017. It turns out that the height of initial growth of containerized seedlings that are planted by lightweight planting auger were much higher than mattock. The survival rate of the containerized seedlings that used lightweight planting auger was also higher by 10% than that used mattock. Also, H/D rate (healthiness) and T/R rate were almost the same, however, for the SQI, 0.60 was for lightweight planting auger and 0.24 for mattock. It seems like the lightweight planting auger is more advantageous than mattock in initial growth. 본 연구는 경북대학교에서 개발한 경량식혈기와 일반적인 용기묘 식재 방법인 괭이를 이용하여 경상북도 상주시 화동면 이소리에 2015년 4월 소나무 용기묘(2-0)를 정방형 식재방법(1.8×1.8 m)으로 식재기구별 각각 225본씩 식재하여 약 2년 동안의 초기생장, 생존율 및 묘목품질지수(SQI)를 조사·분석하였다. 분석결과, 경량식혈기와 괭이를 이용하여 식재 한 용기묘의 평균 근원경(mm)은 각각 2015년에 3.77과 3.94, 2016년에 18.73과 15.32 2017년에 27.8과 23.9로 나타났다. 또한 용기묘의 평균 간장(cm)은 각각 2015년에 33.4와 33.4, 2016년에 89.8과 74.7, 2017년에 120.7과 97.9로 간장 역시 경량식혈기를 이용하여 식재한 용기묘가 괭이를 이용하여 식재한 용기묘 보다 초기 생장이 더 높은 것으로 나타났으며, 생 존율 또한 경량식혈기를 이용한 용기묘의 생존율이 괭이를 이용한 경우 보다 약 10%정도 더 높게 나타났다. 그리고 H/D 율(건전도)과 T/R율은 서로 유사한 값을 나타낸 반면 SQI는 경량식혈기가 0.60, 괭이는 0.24로 나타나 경량식혈기 식재가 괭이 식재에 비해 용기묘의 초기생장에 더 유리한 것으로 판단된다.

        삼나무의 수간곡선식 및 입목수간재적표 개발

        본 연구는 정확도가 높은 Kozak 수간곡선모델을 이용하여 전국에 분포한 삼나무의 수간곡선식 및 입목수간재적표를 개발하고자 수행되었다. 이를 위해 전국에 분포하는 총 1,000본의 삼나무 표본목을 벌채하여 수간고별 직경을 측정하고 수간 형상을 파악할 수 있는 수간곡선식을 추정하였다. 추정한 모델의 통계적 적합도지수는 98.7%로 나타났고 편차는 -0.0142, 평균절대편차는 1.1640로 높은 적합도를 보였다. 또한 현행재적표와 신규재적표의 재적은 통계적으로 유의적인 차이를 보였다(p<0.05). 새롭게 개발된 재적표는 현실림을 반영한 것으로, 국가 및 지자체의 산림통계 정확도 향상과 목재 자원량 평가 시 발생할 수 있는 경제적 손실 방지에 기여할 것으로 판단된다. The aim of this study was to utilize Kozak’s stem taper model to develop both a stem taper equation and a stem volume table for Criptomeria japonica, a tree species distributed across Korea. A total of 1,000 sample trees were cut and collected across the country to measure their diameters by stem height. The equation was then used to estimate examine their stem shapes. Our results show that the Fitness Index for the equation was 98.7%, the Mean Absolute Deviation (MAD) was -0.0142, and the MAD was 1.1640, thus indicating a high level of fitness. A statistically significant difference (p < 0.05) was also found from the analysis of discrepancies between a current table and the new table used in this study. It is therefore suggested that the new table―with data from actual stands―will contribute to enhancing the accuracy of national and municipal forest statistics and reducing losses caused by imprecise data on available forest resources.

        중부지역 일본잎갈나무의 수간중량 추정식 개발

        본 연구는 중부지역 일본잎갈나무의 수간중량 추정식을 개발하기 위하여 지역별 개체목의 지위와 직경을 고려하여 표준지를 선정한 뒤, 총 55본의 표본목을 선정하였다. 표본목의 실측자료를 이용하여 수피외생중량, 수피외건중량, 수피내건중량 및 이용중량 등 네종류의 중량을 추정하기 위해 11개의 모형을 비교·분석하였다. 중량을 추정하기 위해 흉고직경을 변수로 이용하는 경우, 흉고직경과 수고를 이용하는 경우, 재적을 이용하는 경우의 3개 변수에 따라 모형을 구분하였다. 최적의 모형은 적합지수와 추정의 표준오차 및 잔차의 분포를 이용하여 모형의 이행능력을 비교하여 선정하였다. 그 결과, 1변수인 흉고직경을 이용하는 식은 W = a+bD+cD<sup>2</sup>이며 설명력은 90∼92%를 나타냈고, 흉고직경과 수고를 이용한 2변수식은 W = aD<sup>b</sup>H<sup>c</sup> 으로 97∼98%의 설명력으로 2변수 모형이 1변수 모형 보다 높은 적합도를 보였다. 또한 전체수간에 대한 재적과 이용재적에 대한 식인 W = aV 로 중량추정설명력이 98∼99%으로 높게 나타났고 SEE도 7.7∼17.5, CV(%)도 8.0∼10.0으로 우세한 적합도를 보였다. 본 연구는 개체목의 중량정보 제공 및 임분단위의 중량 · 바이오매스추정식의 기초연구로 활용될 것으로 판단된다. In this study was implemented to develop tree stem weight prediction equation of Larix kaempferi in central region by selecting a standard site, taking into account of diameter and position of the local trees. Fifty five sample trees were selected in total. By utilizing actual data of the sample trees, 11 models were compared and analyzed in order to estimate four different kinds of weights which include fresh weight, ovendry outside bark weight, ovendry inside bark weight and merchantable weight. As to estimate its weight, the study has classified its model according to three parameters: DBH, DBH and height, and volume. The optimal model was chosen by comparing the performance of model using the fit index and standard error of estimate and residual distribution. As a result, the formula utilizing DBH (Variable 1) is W = a+bD+cD<sup>2</sup>(3) and its fit index was 90∼92%. The formula for DBH and height (Variable 2) is W = aD<sup>b</sup>H<sup>c</sup> (8) and its fit index was 97∼98%. In summation, Variable 2 model showed higher fitness than Variable 1 model. Moreover, fit index of formula for total volume and merchantable volume (W=aV) showed high rate of 98∼99%, as well as resulting 7.7-17.5 with SEE and 8.0-10.0 with CV(%) which lead to predominately high fitness in conclusion. This study is expected to provide information on weights for single trees and furthermore, to be used as a basic study for weight of stand unit and biomass estimation equations.

        경량식혈기를 이용한 용기묘 식재의 작업공정 및 초기생장 분석

        Due to aging of the rural and mountain populations the labor force is reduced. However work intensity continues to increase, thus, there is a need to improve the current effectiveness of forest operations. This study compared and analyzed the Operation productivity and efficiency of planting containerized seedlings using a battery-powered planting auger and a mattock. Growth was also investigated by looking into the initial growth increments in the planted seedlings. Tasks were investigated by analyzing the process and operation time needed to plant 1 containerized seedling using a planting auger and a mattock. The time spent on the various elements of the planting process was measured with a stopwatch but observations were done continuously. Result of the study shows that with the use of a lightweight planting auger the average time spent to plant a containerized seedling is 18.61 seconds while with the use of a mattock it took an average of 26.96 seconds which clearly demonstrates that the planting auger is more efficient in terms of working hours. Working intensity was also analyzed with the use of a portable heart rate monitor (Polar V800). The average increase in heart rate and work intensity index were analyzed for one planting cycle. It was observed that when using the lightweight planting auger, there was a 46.51% increase in the average heart rate while a 74.67% increase in heart rate when the mattock was used which shows that there is a significant increase in heart rate when mattock is used. In addition, work intensity index was observed to be 29.95% and 47.83% when the planting auger and mattock were used respectively. With the continuous use, work intensity index is significantly higher with the use of the mattock as compared to that of the lightweight planting auger. There were no significant differences on the growth increment of seedlings planted using the different tools until a year after planting, however differences in growth increment were observed after a year. A difference of 15.1 cm in height and 3.41 mm in diameter was observed which shows that the use of lightweight planting auger is excellent for planting containerized seedlings.

        디지털 산림자원정보 구축을 위한 최적의 지상LiDAR 스캔 경로 분석

        본 연구는 LiDAR 센서의 산림자원조사 적용성 검토를 위하여 제주 절물자연휴양림을 대상으로 삼나무의 개체목 탐지, 흉고직경과 수고를 측정하여 전통적인 산림자원조사와 정확성과 효율성을 비교·분석하였다. 백팩형 지상라이다(Backpack Personal Laser Scanning; BPLS)는 Greenvalley International 社의 Model D50을 사용하였다. 최적의 데이터 수집을 위하여 표준지의 밀도와 작업 효율성을 고려한 LiDAR스캔의 표본추출방법을 7가지로 구분하였다. 분석은 개체목 변수 측정의 정확성을 파악하고 요소작업별 시간과 전체 분석시간을 조사하여 효율성을 평가하였다. 분석 결과, 백팩형 지상라이다를 이용한 입목 탐지율은 모든 패턴이 100%로 나타났다. 정확성은 패턴5(흉고직경: RMSE: 1.07 cm, Bias: -0.79 cm, 수고: RMSE: 0.95 m, Bias: -3.2 m)와 패턴7(흉고 직경: RMSE: 1.18 cm, Bias: -0.82 cm, 수고: RMSE 1.13 m, Bias: -2.62 m)이 현장조사 방법으로 얻은 결과와 비교하였을 때 통계적 정확성이 높은 결과를 보였다. BPLS와 현장조사를 이용하여 1 ha의 데이터를 처리하는데 걸린 시간을 환산한 결과 BPLS는 약 115분~135분이 소요되며, 현장조사방법은 375분~1,115분으로 BPLS를 이용한 방법이 더 효율적인 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 하층식생이 적고 비교적 관리가 잘 된 인공 침엽수림에서는 BPLS 장비를 활용하여 효율적인 산림자원조사가 가능하며, 앞으로 다양한 임분 조건에서 적용 가능성을 분석할 필요가 있다고 판단된다. This study was conducted to identify the applicability of a LiDAR sensor to forest resources inventories by comparing data on a tree’s position, height, and DBH obtained by the sensor with those by existing forest inventory methods, for the tree species of Criptomeria japonica in Jeolmul forest in Jeju, South Korea. To this end, a backpack personal LiDAR (Greenvalley International, Model D50) was employed. To facilitate the process of the data collection, patterns of collecting the data by the sensor were divided into seven ones, considering the density of sample plots and the work efficiency. Then, the accuracy of estimating the variables of each tree was assessed. The amount of time spent on acquiring and processing the data by each method was compared to evaluate the efficiency. The findings showed that the rate of detecting standing trees by the LiDAR was 100%. Also, the high statistical accuracy was observed in both Pattern 5 (DBH: RMSE 1.07 cm, Bias -0.79 cm, Height: RMSE 0.95 m, Bias -3.2 m), and Pattern 7 (DBH: RMSE 1.18 cm, Bias -0.82 cm, Height: RMSE 1.13 m, Bias -2.62 m), compared to the results drawn in the typical inventory manner. Concerning the time issue, 115 to 135 minutes per 1ha were taken to process the data by utilizing the LiDAR, while 375 to 1,115 spent in the existing way, proving the higher efficiency of the device. It can thus be concluded that using a backpack personal LiDAR helps increase efficiency in conducting a forest resources inventory in an planted coniferous forest with understory vegetation, implying a need for further research in a variety of forests.

        산림의 탄소저장량 추정을 위한 신규 입목수간재적표 적용 방안

        This study was conducted to suggest application of a new stem volume for the forest carbon stocks in South Korea. We recalculated stem volume using the Kozak parameter and equations based on the old stem volume (approach one) and new stem volume (approach two). Also, we calculated carbon stock and changes using the estimated stem volume and country‐specific emission factors. As a result, growing stock with approach two was higher than that with approach one, and there was a statistically significant difference (p<0.05). The result indicates that the new volume table (approach two) will reduce error when assessing wood resources of the middle DBH class or higher and also will improve the accuracy of forest growing stocks. The annual carbon stock change (m3/ha/yr.) by tree species was 5.7 ± 0.74 in Pinus densiflora, 5.65 ± 0.37 in Quercus mongolica, and 9.54 ± 1.08 in Larix kaempferi by approach two, for which the annual carbon stock change (Ct/ha/yr.) was 2.28 ± 0.30 for Pinus densiflora, 3.98 ± 0.26 for Quercus mongolica, and 3.79 ± 0.43 for Larix kaempferi. According to the Paris Agreement, there is a need to improve the accuracy of greenhouse gas inventory in the forest sector. Moreover, the current estimation algorithm for stem volume of the National Forest Information System (NFIS) should be enhanced by updating the stem volume table. Then it is necessary to estimate the growing stocks based on new stem volume table. This study is a pilot study for Gangwon province, and nationwide pilot research is needed in the future.

        Relationship of H/D and crown ratio and tree growth for Chamaecyparis obtusa and Cryptomeria japonica in Korea

        This study was conducted to suggest the necessity of regulated stand density control in order to maintain the ratio of height to diameter at breast height (H/D ratio) of Hinoki cypress (Chamaecyparis obtusa) and Japanese cedar (Cryptomeria japonica) in South Korea. A total of 2,000 (1,000 each) Hinoki cypress and Japanese cedar were cut from various regions of South Korea, and their diameter at breast height (DBH), height and clear length were measured. The two species’ regional means of H/D ratio and crown ratio were then computed and compared to find the relationship with tree growth. The result of analyzing the relationship between the H/D ratio and tree growth by DBH class is as follows, 77.0% for small DBH class, 62.5% for medium DBH class, and 45.9% for large DBH class, with overall mean of 61.8%. The annual means of DBH growth were 4.6mm, 7.4mm, and 8.2mm respectively for small, medium, and large DBH classes. As the DBH class went up, the H/D ratio decreased, showing a negative correlation (p<0.0001) with the tree growth rate. However, the crown ratio showed a significant correlation with tree growth. Japanese cedar’s H/D ratios by DBH class were 100.5% for small, 74.9% for medium, and 53.6% for large, while its mean annual DBH growth were 5.1mm, 7.6 mm, and 10.0 mm, from small to large DBH class respectively. Similar to that of Hinoki cypress, Japanese cedar’s H/D ratio showed a negative correlation with the growth rate (p<0.0001), but no significant relationship could be established between the crown ratio and the tree growth. In both arboreal species, the correlation between the H/D ratio and growth rate is negative, and no significant correlation could be formulated between crown ratio and tree growth. In conclusion, both tree species tended to have a higher H/D ratio and a lower growth rate in small DBH class, while H/D ratio decreased and growth rate increased As DBH class got larger.
