Banggi, Banggi Whanggi Tang and Gami Jodeung San have been used to prevent and treat arteriosclerosis in oriental medicine. In order to investigate preventive and therapeutic effects of its crude drugs, this research was studied in cholesterol induced hypercholesterolemia rabbits. The results were as follows. 1) By concurrent administration of Banggi or Banggi Whanggi Tang with cholesterol, serum total cholesterol contents were increased more slowly than control group. But in the case of Gami Jodeung San, serum total cholesterol contents were increased as well as control group. 2) By administration of Banggi Whanggi Tang or Gami Jodeung San on induced hydercholesterol rabbits, serum total cholesterol contents were decreased faster than control group. According to this result, it is suggested that Banggi and Banggi Whanggi Tang have preventive and therapeutic effects on hypercholesterolemia rabbits and that Gami Jodeun San has not preventive effect but therapeutic effect.
人蔘 butanol 分劃이 中樞作用 藥物에 의한 mouse의 自發 運動의 變化에 미치는 영향에 대한 硏究

Panax Ginseng C. A. Meyer which has been known for more than 2000 years, occupies a particular place in folk medicine as so called Tonic remedy. The brief pharmacological action of Ginseng complied from the numerous reports can be summarized as adaptogenic effect to be increased nonspecific resistance. Among the various components of Ginseng, the effective components has been known Ginseng butanol fraction as so called Gineseng saponin. In order to study on the effects of the Ginseng butanol fraction which influences spontaneous activity by CNS drugs in mice. experiment of response was measured the change of spontaneous activity by CNS drugs in which mice were treated Ginseng butanol fraction. A methods of measuring spontaneous activity in mice used by counting the number of times which were interrupted a beam of light. Results of experiment can be summarized as follows; 1. In case of administrating Ginseng butanol fraction for 1 day, stimulating effect of Ginseng was observed in spontaneous activity by Caffeine in comparison with the control at the first, but after 45 minutes no significant change was observed. 2. In case of administrating Ginseng butanol fraction for 5 days, decreasing tendency was observed in spontaneous activity by Caffeine. 3. In case of administrating Ginseng butanol fraction for 10 days, marked decrease was observed in spontaneous activity by Caffeine in comparisone with the control. From the experiment on the increased dose of Caffeine, no significant change was observed in comparison with Caffeine and sodium benzoate 25mg/kg group. 4. A state of increased resistance was lasted until 5 day, and after 10 days it was disappeared. 5. Otherwise, no significant change was observed for Chlorpromazin·Hcl in comparison with the control. 6. From this result, 10 days administrating of Ginseng butanol fraction appeared to have increased resistance in mice against Caffeine.

Effects of Bistcain are investigated in acute gastritis and gastric ulcer of mouse, rat and rabbit. In this result, Bistcain showed the decrease of mucouse inflammation and fatality in mice, rats and rabbits.

Effect of hydrochlorothiazide on serum potassium level was studied in the hypokalemia-induced rats by the oral administration of glycyrrhiza extract (GE) for 4 weeks. According to the concentration of GE, serum potassium levels were found to be 5.8±0.2, 5.4±0.2 and 5.5±0.2 mM/l after oral administration of 0.1, 0.2 and 0.5% GE solutions for 4 weeks, respectively, comparing 6.4±0.2 mM/l in normal rats. The i.p. administration of hydrochlorothiazide (100㎎/㎏) showed no significant difference (5.1±0.3-5.2±0.3 mM/l) in the decrease of serum potassium levels between these hypokalemia-induced rats and normal rats, regardless of the concentration of pretreated GE solutions. Therefore it was considered that the administration of hydrochlorothiazide did not worsen the hypokalemia induced by the long term administration of GE in rats.
녹용수침액이 Mouse 의 Stress 방어작용에 미치는 영향

Antler, deer horn, occupies a particular place in oriental folk medicine as so called tonic remedy. In order to study on the effects of Antler water extract on stress resistance in mice, quantitative response was measured for the change of spontaneous activity by chemical stress drugs in the control group or the Antler water extract pretreated group. Spontaneous activity in mice was measured by counting the number of interruptions of light. The results of experiment were summerized as follows; I) In case of administrating Antler water extract 10㎎/㎏, 20㎎/㎏, 50㎎/㎏, and 100㎎/㎏, no significant change was observed in spontaneous activity in comparison with the control group. II) In case of administrating Antler water extract for 5 days or 10 days, no significant change was observed in spontaneous activity by chemical stress drugs, caffein and chloropromazine, in comparison with the control group.
Rat에서 고지방식이가 Ethanol 유발성 간경화에 미치는 영향

We have studied the effects of a high fat diet in the ethanol induced liver cirrhosis. The results are as follows ; 1) proper ethanol administered method is the use of a sonde for rat p.o. 2) Coadministration of high fat diet elevated the ethanol induced liver damage. The ethanol inducible P450 2E1 (P450 2E1) activity was significantly increased in rats fed high fat diet and ethanol These results suggest that P450 2E1 induction in rats fed high fat diet and ethanol can be due to increased liver damage.
