The purpose of this study is to construct a database which analyses a correlation between ‘so called regret expression‘ communicative functions and grammatical patterns for effective teaching. Based upon the case study about the ending forms including ‘-ulgeol’, This paper conduct a corpus analysis to investigate semantic, syntactic and pragmatic characteristics of their expressions. Using a spoken corpus, This paper especially attempt to examine a correlation between pattern expressions appeared in daily conversations and communicative functions. Based upon spoken data analysis, the given pattern expressions seem to have a primary basic meaning and are connected with a variety of communication strategies that emphasize or euphemize a speaker‘s intention. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. First, grammar instruction can not be effectively carried out simply by teaching individual pattern expressions and artificial conversation depending on basic meaning. To solve this problem, various meaning functions appeared in real language performance are identified. Second, this study distinguishes varied patterns of the given expressions from related patterns and suggests a list of pattern expressions that are combined with other grammatical forms and subsequently have different meaning functions. Therefore, a differential instruction of them is desired.

Considering that it is difficult to standardize cultural characteristics as a single coherent system, this study attempts to design a Korean culture syllabus that takes into account such aspects as cultural characteristics, teaching places and the idiosyncrasy of the field. First, we use a basic research results such as analysis of teaching materials and previous studies as well as learner needs analysis. Based on this, we design a weighted scoring system, select the final culture education items, sort them and suggest an order of priority for application according to variants. Second, we propose a culture teaching syllabus according to the level of proficiency and present a prototype syllabus for Sejong school learners. Third, we separate the "language-culture linked culture syllabus" from the "culture independent syllabus", then stratify each syllabus and propose development principles, procedures, and contents. We hope the research methodology and contents employed in this study provide a new idea to the future culture education study.
