본 연구는 ‘2008년 노인생활실태조사’를 토대로 손자녀를 돌보는 조부모의 심리적 복지감에 영향을 미치는 요인을 살펴본 것이다. 특히 양육 상황, 양육지각, 자원 등을 손자녀 양육경험의 주요 차원으로 설정하여, 매개모형분석을 통해 이들 요인 간의 상호복합적 관련성을 검토하였다. 본 연구결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 조사대상자들의 손자녀 양육동기의 대부분이 맞벌이가정의 자녀양육을 돕기 위함이었으며, 조사대상자의 대다수가 양육에 대한 대가를 받지 않았다. 둘째, 돌봄 상황 자체가 직접적으로 조부모의 심리적 복지감의 차이를 유발하지 않고, 돌봄 상황의 차이가 가져온 양육지각과 자원의 차이가 매개역할을 하면서 간접적으로 조부모의 심리적 복지감에 영향을 미쳤다. 셋째, 자원 중 경제형편과 이웃도움은 양육지각을 긍정적으로 높이는 것과 관련되었으며 자녀지지는 양육지각과 관련이 없었다. 결국, 본 연구는 현대 사회에서 조부모가 손자녀 양육을 통해 성인자녀세대의 경제활동을 지원함으로써 사회의 생산성을 유지하는 중요한 서비스 제공자임을 보여준다. 또한 손자녀 양육경험은 관련요인들이 서로 복잡하게 연결된 복합적 과정이며, 특히 손자녀 양육 조부모의 심리적 복지감에 작용하는 개인, 가족, 사회적 자원의 유용성을 주목할 필요가 있다. 이것은 조부모의 손자녀 양육이 더 이상 개인과 가족차원의 논의에 머무르지 않고 지역사회차원 이상의 관심사로 다루어짐으로써, 이들의 외적 자원을 강화시키는 구체적인 방안이 강구되어야 함을 시사한다. This study examined what factors were associated with psychological well-being of grandparents providing daily care to their grandchildren. More focus on the role of various mediators such as caregiving perception and resources were given to investigate the complicated relationships between providing care and psychological function. I used the nationally representative data from the ‘2008 Korean National Survey of Welfare Need in the Elderly’. Results showed that there were diverse circumstances of caregiving. Grandparents who cared their grandchildren on behalf of dual career parents emerged predominantly from them. Findings also suggested that type of caregiving was related to external factors. Grandparents shouldering greater responsibility for their grandchildren showed lower levels of resources such as financial conditions and social support, and more negative perception of caregiving, which in tum was associated with lower psychological well-being. Finally, more financial resource and neighborhood support directly influenced more positive perception of caregiving. To enhance resources and empower grandparents raising their grandchildren, community-based intervening mechanism incorporating various environments and effective services to meet the needs of grandparents should be discussed in future studies.

노년기 역할상실이 우울에 미치는 영향: 여가활동 및 사회적 활동의 조절효과를 중심으로

본 연구는 여가활동 및 사회적 활동이 노년기 역할상실로 인한 우울감을 조절하는 역할을 하는지를 살펴보았다. 분석을 위해 "2017년 노인실태조사" 자료의 65세 이상 응답자 10,074명의 응답을 활용했다. 본 연구 결과 첫째, 대부분의 노인들은 하나 이상의 여가 활동을 수행했으며, 사회활동의 경우 자원봉사나 사회단체 참여 등 공식적인 사회 활동에 비해 친척, 친구, 이웃과의 상호 작용 등 비공식적인 사회 활동에 더 적극적으로 참여하는 경향이었다. 둘째, 역할상실, 여가활동과 사회활동은 다른 사회인구학적 요인들이 통제된다 하더라도 노년기 우울에 통계적으로 유의미한 영향을 미치는 중요한 변수였다. 이 중 상대적 영향력이 가장 큰 변인은 비공식적 사회활동이었다. 셋째, 역할상실이 우울에 미치는 효과에 있어서 여가활동 및 사회활동의 조절효과를 살펴본 결과, 부모역할상실과 공식적 사회활동, 그리고 경제적 역할상실과 여가활동, 경제적 역할상실과 공식적 사회활동 간의 상호작용 효과가 통계적으로 유의미 하였다. 부모역할상실은 우울수준을 감소시켰는데, 이러한 우울감소의 효과는 비공식적 사회활동수준을 높였을 때 더 커짐을 알 수 있었다. 반면 경제적 역할상실은 우울수준을 증가시켰으나, 여가활동과 공식적인 사회활동 수준을 높인다면 경제적 역할이 상실된다 하더라도 우울수준의 증가폭이 적어짐으로써 역할상실로 인한 우울의 부정적 효과는 완화되었다. 결국, 앞으로의 연구는 노인들의 역할상실로 인한 상실감을 만회하기 위하여 사회적 활동을 활발히 촉진시키는 방안을 논의하여야 할 것이다. 또한 노인의 삶의 질을 향상시키기 위해서는 다양한 사회, 문화 활동을 복합한 통합적 복지정책을 개발하려는 노력이 필요하다. This study examined how leisure and social activities moderated the relation between role absences and depression of the elderly, using data from 10,074 respondents over the age of 65 in the ‘2017 Korean National Survey of Welfare Need in the Elderly". Results showed that most of the elderly carried out one or more leisure activities, but they tended to more actively participate in informal social activities rather than in formal social activities. Findings also showed beneficial effects of leisure and social activities on depression. Moreover, after examining the moderating effects of leisure activities and social activities in the effect of role loss on depression, the interactions between the parental role absence and informal social activities, between the employment role absence and leisure activities, and between the employment role absence and formal social activities were statistically significant. The parental role absence has reduced the level of depression, which has been shown to be greater when the level of informal social activities has been raised. On the other hand, while the employment role absence increased the level of depression, increasing the level of leisure activities and formal social activities reduced the negative effects of depression caused by loss of economic roles. Thus, future studies will require more efforts to develop integrative welfare policies for the elderly, encouraging their various social and cultural activities to improve their quality of life.
