This study examines the degree of satisfaction with first-aid medical service provided in an emergency room of a county supported hospital to identity basic data for improving first-aid medical service at a county level hospital. The subjects of this study were 235 patients, over 18 years old who had first-aid treatment at the emergency room and left the hospital, or either hospitalized or were transferred to other hospital or agency. For collecting data, the instrument developed by Yun Seong-Ja (1996), revised by Song Bong-Ae (2000). The results of this study are as follows; 1. The mean of the level of satisfaction with the provided first-aid medical service was 3.60 scores and their responses, 'The noise due to medical equipments was too loud' was reported as highest as 4.20 scores and the response that 'it was easy to use facilities within emergency room' showed the lowest satisfaction as 2.24 scores. 2. According to difference in the degree of satisfaction with first-aid medical services depending on general characteristics, patients in 'medical insurance' showed significantly higher satisfaction than those in 'medicaid' (p=.006). 3. On difference of degrees of satisfaction with first-aid medical service before arriving at emergency room, cases visited directly to the 'emergency room' showed significantly satisfied with comparing with '119 or 112' (p=.010). 4. On difference of degrees of satisfaction with first-aid medical service after arriving at emergency room, cases which had medical treatment' as soon as arrive' at emergency room showed higher satisfaction and cases which waited for treatment for '10-30 min.'. showed lower satisfaction, and group of waiting for 'less than 30 min.' (p=.023) showed significantly higher satisfaction than group of waiting for '30 min, ~1 hour'. From above results, placement of appropriate medical personnel, shortening of waiting time at emergency room, preparation of comfortable environment and private space are urgently required to enhance the degree of satisfaction of patients at emergency room.
