Kim, Jun-Geun(Gisan) was a late 19th century Chosen dynasty painter who created numerous genre paintings for West European clients in the newly opened treaty ports of Wonsan, Busan and Inchon. The treaty ports in the late 19th century Chosen represented of the crossroads the economy, values, and the institutions of the West European powers. In particular, the agriculture-based economy, Confucianism, and land-owner noble class started being eroded by a commerce-based economy, the values of Christianity, West European institution, and a new class of people who amassed wealth from commerce. As Kim, Jun-Geun's paintings were created for sale to West European clients, they exhibit characteristics that are distinct from the traditional genre paintings in terms of presentation style and the selection of the subject matters. The export genre painting originated in the 18th century around Guangdong, China. Broadly, there are two styles of genre paintings: the Guangzhou style and Ningbo style. Kim, Jun-Geun's paintings resemble the Ningbo style. The Ningbo style tends to highlight the main subjects, form an album of small paintings, and provide a simple treatment of the scenes without the background. Kim, Jun-Geun's paintings cover most aspects of life of common people of his time, ranging well beyond the subjects matters of the traditional genre paintings. His subject matters include the scenes of funeral, folk games, Buddhist and ancestor worship, prison and punishment, shaman custom, debauchees, government officials' formal trips, beggars and handicapped, etc. Many of the subjects are the neglected and the oppressed of the society. And he presents in detail the dress and its ornament that the subjects wear, and all the utensils and things around them. Besides, his subjects' faces are generally expressionless, and their postures are stiff; as such, the feeling of liveliness or movement is lacking. It may be the results of Kim, Jun-Geun's taking the other perspective, namely of his West European clients, rather than his own. The adoption of the other perspective may in turn be a product of the Social Darwinism and the new sense of values that accompanied the infusion of Christianity and West European institutions. Kim, Jun-Geun's portrayals of his subjects appear to reflect the attributes with which the West European Orientalists' of the period characterized the people of the Far East, namely, backwardness, barbarity, irrationality, violence, and mysticism.

The articles on building height limitation are very important to form buildings to be. The application of the articles is based on the surface of the building site ground, that is, the definite judgment of ground level should ensure the correctness of building height limitation. This study surveyed the recognition degree of practitioners about the building height limitation regulations by questionnaires, and analyzed its results and compared them to related building laws and letter of reply from the office to practitioners' inquiry on related regulation. The study summarized the results as follows; 1. It is not clear to judge the ground level. Especially in cases of pilotis structure, there would be various interpretations to define its ground level. 2. According to present building regulations, the site would be confused to define by practitioners whether it is stiff or plain. 3. In case of regulation of a right to enjoy sunshine, it is hard to calculate the average horizontal level(ground level) with neighboring sites. 4. If there were a manual with illustrations for judging and calculating the ground level of various cases, civil petitions would be reduced.

Korean guidelines for postpolypectomy colonoscopic surveillance: 2022 revised edition

Colonoscopic polypectomy is effective in decreasing the incidence and mortality of colorectal cancer (CRC). Premalignant polyps discoveredduring colonoscopy are associated with the risk of metachronous advanced neoplasia. Postpolypectomy surveillance is the most important meth-od for the management of advanced metachronous neoplasia. A more efficient and evidence-based guideline for postpolypectomy surveillance isrequired because of limited medical resources and concerns regarding colonoscopy complications. In these consensus guidelines, an analytic ap-proach was used to address all reliable evidence to interpret the predictors of CRC or advanced neoplasia during surveillance colonoscopy. Thekey recommendations state that the high-risk findings for metachronous CRC following polypectomy are as follows: (1) adenoma ≥10 mm in size;(2) 3 to 5 (or more) adenomas; (3) tubulovillous or villous adenoma; (4) adenoma containing high-grade dysplasia; (5) traditional serrated adeno-ma; (6) sessile serrated lesion (SSL) containing any grade of dysplasia; (7) serrated polyp of at least 10 mm in size; and (8) 3 to 5 (or more) SSLs. More studies are needed to fully comprehend the patients most likely to benefit from surveillance colonoscopy and the ideal surveillance intervalto prevent metachronous CRC.

남다른 철학과 포부로 육용종계를 사육하는 충북 보은 소재 한국농원(대표 이순구) 이성욱 관리이사를 만났다. 한국농원은 2006년 계사 4동의 농장을 인수하여 계사를 확장, 현재 2만평 부지에 150m와 143m 계사 12동(수탉계사 1동) 규모로 육용종계 12만수를 사육하고 있다. 중추는 전량 외부에서 들여오며, 농장에서는 성계만 사육하고, 부화 역시 위탁을 하고 있다.

POT방법론을 이용한 자동차보험 손해율 추정

자동차보험의 손해율이란 지급보험금의 수입보험료에 대한 비율을 의미한다. 손해율이 매우 큰 값을 갖는 대형손실이 일어나는 경우에는 보험회사의 재무적인 부분에 큰 악영향을 미치게 된다. 따라서 보험회사가 이에 대비할 수 있도록 하기 위하여 손해율의 극단 분위수(extreme quantile)를 추정하는 것은 매우 중요한 일이다. 다른 종류의 보험 관련 데이터와 같이 손해율의 분포는 오른쪽으로 긴 꼬리를 갖는 두꺼운 꼬리분포(heavy-tailed distribution)를 갖는다. 이런 자료에서 극단 분위수룰 추정하기 위하여 가장 많이 사용되는 방법론은 POT(Peaks over threshold)와 Hill 추정(Hill estimation)이다. 본 논문에서는 일반화파레토분포(generalized Pareto distribution; GPD)의 다양한 모수추정방법론의 성능을 모의실험과 실제 손해율 데이터를 사용하여 비교, 분석하였다. 또한 Hill 추정치를 사용하여 극단 분위수를 추정하였다. 그 결과 대부분의 경우에 POT 방법론이 Hill 추정치를 이용한 방법보다 정확한 분위수를 추정하였고, 모수추정방법론 중에서는 MLE, Zhang, NLS-2 방법론이 가장 좋은 결과를 보여주었다. In car insurance, the loss ratio is the ratio of total losses paid out in claims divided by the total earned premiums. In order to minimize the loss to the insurance company, estimating extreme quantiles of loss ratio distribution is necessary because the loss ratio has essential prot and loss information. Like other types of insurance related datasets, the distribution of the loss ratio has heavy-tailed distribution. The Peaks over Threshold(POT) and the Hill estimator are commonly used to estimate extreme quantiles for heavy-tailed distribution. This article compares and analyzes the performances of various kinds of parameter estimating methods by using a simulation and the real loss ratio of car insurance data. In addition, we estimate extreme quantiles using the Hill estimator. As a result, the simulation and the loss ratio data applications demonstrate that the POT method estimates quantiles more accurately than the Hill estimation method in most cases. Moreover, MLE, Zhang, NLS-2 methods show the best performances among the methods of the GPD parameters estimation.

현장취재 - 우리맛닭, 그 가능성과 과제를 만나다 - 실용화에 접어든 '우리맛닭' -

농촌진흥청 국립축산과학원(원장 라승용)은 지난 15년간의 재래닭 수집과 순계 복원, 연구 및 개량을 통해 '우리맛닭'을 탄생시켰다. 재래닭 복원 프로젝트는 1994년부터 1997년까지 4년간 대한양계협회에서 '재래닭육용화 사업'의 일환으로 서울대학교 오봉국 박사(본회 고문)의 진두지휘 하에 대학교 수 16명, 연구관 8명 등 연인원 84명과 9억2천만원의 예산이 투입되어 진행됐으며, 11개의 과제를 수행해 마침내 재래닭 순계 복원에 성공하였다. 연구진은 이후 연구 결과물을 축산과학원으로 이관하여 후속연구를 지속토록 하였으며, 축산과학원은 이로부터 우수한 실용계를 생산하는 연구에 착수하게 됐다. 이러한 과정을 거쳐, 경제적으로 불리한 기존 재래닭의 문제점을 보완하여 산란성과 산육성이 우수한 닭으로 개발한 것이 바로 '우리맛닭'이다. '우리맛닭'은 축산과학원이 보유한 9개 순계 모군으로부터 성장이 빠른 부계통과 맛이 좋고 알 생산이 많은 모계통의 교잡을 통해 맛이 좋고 성장이 빠른 실용계로 생산된다. '우리맛닭'은 콜라겐 함량이 높아 탄력감과 쫄깃한 느낌의 육질을 지니고 있으며, 이를 접하는 소비자들의 반응도 좋게 나타나 그 가능성이 긍정적으로 점쳐지고 있다.
