We, authors, report 2 cases of cerebrai malaria which were associated with malignant tropica malaria They were serving at Vietnamese war. Case I showed organic defect syndromes; acute delirium progressed to full coma and focal signs and meningial signs developed. Prompt and adequate anti-malarial therapy was effective but severe personality changes and impairment of intellectual functions remained. Case J developed paranoid syndromes. It is difficult to determine whether the paranoid syndromes were due to the cerebral changes or were merely uncovered during the course malaria. But the Latter, we think, was more likely possible, we should consider the possibility of the malarial origin among-the veterans from Vietnam who shows psychotic, psychoneurotic or psychopathic manifestations.

The study was designed to investigate the anxious and depressive trends in the wives of alcoholic patients. For the purpose of assessment of anxiety and depression, Zung's self-rating anxiety-(SAS) and depression scales (SDS) were applied to the fifty wives of alcoholics, the latter were admitted to the psychiatric wards of Taegu Catholic Hosp. and Kyungpook National Univ. Hosp. from Jan 1 '84 to Sep. 30 '85 and were diagnosed according to DSM- criteria. And the two scales were also applied to the fifty wives of social drinkers as a control group. The results were as follows; 1) The mean SAS scores were 53.06±9.66 in the wives of alcoholics and 38.64±8.75 in the control group and so the difference was significant in anxious trends (p<0.01) between two groups. 2) The mean SDS scores were 54.00±10.20 in the wives of alcoholics and 42.64±7.80 in the control group and so the difference was significant in depressive trends (p<0.01) too between two groups. 3) As for the frequency order of the SAS items in the wives of alcoholics, they were apprehension, insomnia, restlessness and fear. As for the frequency order of the SDS items in the wives of alcoholics, they were confusion, decreased libido, decreased appetite and psychomotor retardation. 4) As for the wife's attitude toward her husband, nagging and interfering attitude was commonest(46%) in the wives of alcoholics in contrast to the gentle and tender attitude(48%) in the wives of social drinkers. 5) 62% of wives of alcoholics were dissatisfied with their sexual life but the degree of dissatisfaction was low to 8% in the wives of social drinkers.

This study was designed to investigate the clinical safety of risperidone. The subjects consisted of 19 patients diagnosed as chronic schizophrenia with DSM-III-R, who had been admitted to the Taegu Catholic mental hospital from April 26, 1991 to December 19, 1991. After a wash-out period of 7 days, they were treated with risperidone for a period of 16 weeks unders single open condition. The mean dosage of risperidone administered to patients were 11.89±4.59mg per day. Blood pressure, heart rate, body weight, hematology, biochemistry, ECG were assessed : extrapyramidal symptoms were assessed by means of ESRS : other side effects were evaluated by UKU side effect rating scale. The results were as follows : 1) Among vital signs, changes of standing heart rate(P<.05) and standing systolic blood pressure(P<.05) were significant, but these were within normal range. 2) A statistically significant increase was seen in body weight(P<0.001). 3) Among the ESRS subscales, statistically significant decrease was seen in clinical global impression of severity of parkinsonism(P<0.05). 4) Statistically significant changes were not found in blood chemistry, hematology, ECG and UKU side effect rating scale. The above results suggest that risperidone is clinically safe except for increased body weight.

We have seen sexual inversion not infrequently,and homosexual problems of these occurr more frequently in group life such as military. Here, we present two cases of overt homosexuals taking part as male and female role respectively. Case I Cfemale role) has grown up as a feminine boy through his family influence, insufficient father and domineering mother, with having no wish to be a man, and Case II has grown up as a delinquent child with having hostile feeling to his alcoholic, brutal and horrible father . Since 8 years old, case I has begun anal inte-rcourse taking part female role, and case H has experienced some sexual play with a aged girl seduced by her at his age of 11, and their homosexual act has become more intensified and frequently performed after they were drafted in army. Behavior, attitude and tone of voice of case I was similar to those of female with doing make-up, and beside the frequent expeliences of anal intercour se and the attempt of incestuous sexual contact case II bad sexual plays with animals—hen and goat, several times. Case I is single, and case II has one doughter and has not enjoyed his marital life since. Therapeutic efforts in their homosexalities are less effective while their neurotic and psychotic symptoms are slightly responsible to.
