        It was about 70 years ago that Carrel and Guthrie started experimental limb replantation. Malt succeeded, firstly, replantation of the amputated arm of 12 years old boy in 1962 and Tamai succeeded finger replantation in 1965. Since Jacobson and Suarez described superiority of small vessel repair using microscope, further advances in replantation occurrd with the develop-ment of suture material (18-20μ) and needles (65-120μ); making repair of vessels of 1 mm in diameter. The authors experienced four cases of traumatic amputation during the period from March, 1979 to Sept.. 1979 and the primary result of replantation is reported in this paper. 1. All cases were male and in the age group between 21 to 29. 2. Mode of amputation; two cases were amputated by presser, one case was by iron cutter and one was by paper cutter machine. 3. Tow out of four cases were incomplete amputation and two were complete multiple amputation. One case of multiple amputations was right four digits except thumb at the proximal phalanx level and the other was bilateral wrists. 4. The shortest duration of ischemia was four hours and 45 minutes and the longest was 13 and a half hours. 5. Four out of four replanted digits and two wrists were survived and the remains were failed. The possible cause of failure seems to be too long ischemic time. 6. Further functional results will be reported later.

      • 수지(手指)에 발생한 Glomus Tumor - 치험 2례 보고 -

        Glomus tbmor of the hand has been well documented lesion that usually presents as painful dermal nodule in the finger. Glomus tumor may be difficult in diagnostic and therapeutic problems because of relatively rare and not easily experienced cases. Normal glomus body presents in the skin and subcutis of the extremity, but the normal body is not more than 1 mm3) in size. Most evidence indicates that the main function of the normal glomus body is to aid in regulation of the skin circulation. The glomus tumor is thought to be an abnormal proliferation of the glomus body and accompained by the classic triad of symptoms : pain, tenderness and temperature sensitivity. This paper reports two cases of glomus tumor occurring in the nail bed and finger pulp. One case was found 30 years later & another case 15 years after the onset in spite of srvere pain, tenderness and lancinating pain when exposed to the cold tempera ture but the excision of the tumor resulted in complete recovery.

        충격공진법을 이용한 콘크리트 슬래브 내의 개재물 검출

        콘크리트 비파괴검사법인 충격공진법의 유용성과 적용 한계를 살펴보기 위하여 실험 및 이론적 연구를 수행하였다. 실험적 연구를 위하여, 다양한 개재물이 포함된 콘크리트 슬래브 공시체를 제작한 후 충격공진법을 적용하여 개재물의 존재 및 매설 위치를 찾아보았다. 공시체들 중 몇 경우에는 개재물의 위치를 정확하게 검출할 수 있었으나, 나머지의 경우에는 검출하지 못하였다. 후자의 경우에 있어서 그 실패 원인을 규명하고, 나아가 본 기법의 유용성을 결정하는 주요 인자들을 알아보기 위하여 유한요소 해석을 수행하였다. 본 연구는 충격공진법의 물리적 이해 증진과 향후 발전에 기여할 것이다. The usefulness and limitations of the impact-resonance method, which is a nondestructive evaluation (NDE) method for concrete, are studied by both experimental and theoretical methods. For the experimental study, several concrete slab specimens with various inclusions embedded were fabricated, and tested by the impact-resonance method. Some of the inclusions have been detected and accurately located, but some have not. The reasons for the failure in the latter cases have been investigated theoretically by using finite element analyses, from which the primary factors determining the success of the method have also been identified. This study will serve to enhance the understanding of the underlying physics and to improve the usefulness of the impact-resonance method as applied to concrete NDE.

      • 跆券道選手의 體格 및 手掌骨에 對한 考察

        In spite of its long history of TAE-KWON-DO, one of Korean native sports popular among the modern youth, there has been few studies on this sports, particularly on the body Constitution of these sportsmen in comparison with players of those sports in the universal Olympic Games. First of all, the establishment of the standard body structure of the normal person and a study of physical changes caused by TAE-KWON-DO would he definitely necessary. The author conducted a study of height, chest girth, range of motion in the metacarpophalangeal joints and the interphalangeal joints of the hand on 45 young men who have trained in TAE-KWON-DO. Also, skeletal observation was made by X-ray of the hands on 36 men out of the 45 They have trained for the duration of 2 to more than 10 yeares. Main findings were as follows: 1) Those trained in TAE-KWON-DO were lighter in body weight than those trained in Joo­Do, Boxing, etc. 2) 85% were Mesomorphy, 8% Endomorphy and the remainder were Ectomorphy in body type when classified by the Vervaeck's index number. 3) There was found an old fracture on the proximal phalanx in just one man. 4) Chip fractures mostly on the 2nd through 5th proximal phalanx without recognized by themselves were found in 16.6%(9 fractures in 6 persons out of 36). 5) There were found no changes of the range of motion of the joints in the wrist and hand. 6) In comparing the value of the length and width of the metacarpal bone, proximal phalanx and middle phalanx, the right side was longer by a maximum of 0.3mm. 7) Another comparison with the control group, revealed that the difference of values, length of hand and circumference of palm, were three times larger in TAE-KWON-DO sportsmen.
