Habitat preferences of benthic marcroinvertebrates were studied according to the different substrate composition. Although it was hard to determine the common dwellers in the habitats with cobbles and pebbles, some taxa such as Ephemera orientalis, Davidius lunatus, Tipula KUb, Isonychica japonica and Tabanus amaenus etc. occurred preferably in the habitats with gravel/sand. In all the sampling stations, the numbers of species collected in the habitats with gravel/sand were always remarkably smaller as compared with the habitats with cobbles and pebbles. The ephemeropterans such as Epeorus pellucidus, Uracanthella rufa and Drunella aculea were dominated in station 1. It was generally showed the stable aquatic communities with low dominance index values throughout the year in station 2. The first dominant species in station 3 were all mayflies with the average DI value of 0.38. The first dominant species of Uracanthella rufa known as relatively tolerant species in station 4. A crustacean species Gammarus spp. have frequently occurred as the 1st or 2nd dominant species in station 5. Limnodrilus socialis, and Chironomus spp. were dominated in stations 6 and 7. Station 1, 2 and 3 were classified as oligosaproblic status according to their average diversity index values ranging from 3.46 to 3.52. Station 7 showed α-mesosaprobic water condition with the overall average diversity value of 1.26. In general, the equitability and species richness values in the same sampling areas had close relations with their diversity values. The dendrogram drawn by dissimilarity values among 7 sampling sites indicates that the macrobenthic communities were divided into 3 groups: stations 1, 2, 3 and 4: stations 6 and 7; and station 5 alone.

Ultrastructural changes of Entamoeba histolytica, a concomitant strain YS-9, which was treated in the immune serum was examined. The amoebae in the serum became immobilized state from about 30 minutes of the treatment and recovered at about 60-90 minutes. In the cells of control group, helix structures were scattered throughout the cytoplasm. The particles comprising the helix structure averaged 20 nm in diameter. At the beginning stage of the immobilization, helical aggregates(chromatoid body) which associated with vacuoles appeared abundantly in the cytoplasm, but gradually tended to aggregate along peripheral region of the cell, specially in intactly immobilized state. Each parallel array of aggregates measured about 45 nm in width. When the cells became remobilize, pseudopodia appeared again, but helical aggregates disappeared and numerous helix structures were observed in the cell periphery. Distribution of glycogen particles showed no change, and acid phosphatase activities were seen in both the immobilized and the control group. The reaction was markedly noticed in the vacuoles.
한국산 다슬기(Semisulcospira spp.)의 흡충류 유미유충 감염실태 및 농약의 잔류성에 관한 조사연구

One of the most medically important snail species of Korea is Semisulcospira spp., a member of the freshwater prosobranch family pleuroceridae. The parasites that these snails transmit to humans are mainly Paragonimus westermani and Metagonimus yokogawoi. On the other hand, Semisulcospira snails are edible as a foodstuff in Korea. The present study was first aimed to detect out residual pesticides in the snails collected at the endemic and non-endemic areas of paragonimiasis in Korea and to make relationship to the detectability of larval trematodes shed from the snails. In addition, water specimens from the habitats where the snails were collected were sampled and analysed to elucidate environmental conditions of the habitats. This malaco-ecological survey was done at 7 endemic and 3 non-endemic areas of paragonimiasis for about more than 2 years, May, 1984 through October, 1986. All the water smaples both from the endemic and non-endemic areas of paragonimiasis showed normal ranges of the criteria of upper freshwater streams, with lower B.O.D. (0.4~2.0 ppm) and higher D.O. values (9.5~11.0 ppm) than those in the large river systems Infection rate of digenetic trematodes in total snails collected was 6.7%, but no Paragonimus cercaria was detected out at all even in the endemic areas of paragonimiasis. The ecological factors affecting Paragonimus larvae in the snails were also discussed. A total of 9 chlorinated hydrocarbon pesticieds was targeted to detect out from the tissues of snails. Out of 9 pesticides, aldrin, beta-BHC, p, p-DDT, dieldrin, DDE, lindane, heptachlor and heptachlor epoxide were eluted from the snails. The highest levels of the pesticides were mostly detected out in the snails collected from the Donghae-Chun area of Haman and the Kangwha area of Kyongki-Do, where the lowest infection rates of trematode cercariae (0~0.5%) were revealed. The possibilities that the residual pesticides in the freshwater animals including Semisulcospira snails might be transferable to humans were also discussed.
전라남도 완도군 보길도에서의 폐흡충(paragonimus westermani) 중간숙주 조사

Collections of Semisulcospira snails and crayfishes were made to detect out larval trematodes in Bogil Islet, Wando-Gun, Chonra-Nam-Do, Korea in August, 1985. In addition, intradermal test to figure out the prevalence rate of paragonimiasis in the islanders was also carried out. The results are summarized as follows: 1) Nineteen out of 186 examinees(10.2%) showed positive reactions by intradermal test with Paragonimus antigen. 2) Forty four snails out of 182 snails collected were infected with trematode cercariae. These larvae were Metagonimus sp., Cercaria yoshidae, Cercaria incerta and Cercarianipponensis. 3) Metacercarial incidence of Paragonimus westermani in crayfish was 65.4%. Mean number of metacercariae per crayfish was 6.5.
