한국 제조기업의 해외직접투자와 국내설비투자 관계에 대한 실증분석

본 연구는 통계청의 기업활동조사 자료(2010~2018)를 이용하여 기업 수준에서 한국 제조기업들의 국내설비투자와 해외직접투자(Outward Foreign Direct Investment: OFDI)에 대한 의사결정을 이변량 프로빗 모형(Bivariate Probit Model)을 이용해 분석하였다. 본 연구의 결과, 제조기업의 국내설비투자와 해외직접투자에 대한 의사결정은 동시에 고려되어야 하며 두 선택은 서로 보완관계를 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 특히, R&D 집중도가 높은 기업일수록 국내설비투자와 해외직접투자가 증가하는 경향이 있는데, 이는 세계화의 흐름에 따른 기업의 국제화 전략이 경쟁력 강화, 생산성 제고를 위한 자연스러운 흐름인 것으로 볼 수 있다. 본 연구는 기업의 국제화 전략을 강화하는 동시에 국내설비투자와의 선순환 구조를 만들어 갈 수 있는 방법에 대한 지속적인 연구의 필요성에 함의를 가진다. This study empirically analyzes the relationship between outward foreign direct investment (OFDI) and domestic investment of Korean manufacturing firms at the corporate level using the Bivariate Probit Model. The results of this study showed that decisions about manufacturing firms' investments in domestic facilities and outward foreign direct investments should be considered at the same time and that the two choices has a complementary relationship. In particular, firms with high R&D intensity tend to increase domestic facility investment and outward foreign direct investment, and this seems to be a natural choice of firms to strengthen competitiveness and enhance productivity. This study implies the need for continuous research on ways to strengthen the company's globalization strategy while creating a virtuous cycle of domestic facility investment.
