버퍼 오버플로우 공격 방어를 위한 주소 회전 기법의 성능평가

Code Red Worm broken out in the year 2001, which is a typical instance of buffer overflow attack, infected 1/4 million systems in 9 hours according to the CERT advisory report. Statistics since 1998 shows that more than 50% of attacks are related to buffer overflow attack. The most common approach to the buffer overflow attack is patching vulnerable applications. This paper presents address rotation, a solution by compiler requiring no source code modification. Address rotation scheme detects buffer overflow attack by identifying compromised return address. Experimental data shows that code size increased by less than 3% and execution time increased by less than 20% with practical applications. This overhead is bearable for prevention of buffer overflow attack. Address rotation can also be applied to function call to expand the coverage.

실행 시간 스택 프레임의 하단과 상단을 가리키는 프레임 포인터와 스택 포인터는 항상 일정한 대소 관계를 유지한다. 선형 스택 공격이 진행되면, 이관계가 반전된다. 이때 스택이 역위되었다고 한다. 본 논문은 x86 프로세서 계열의 gcc 컴파일러에 스택 역위 탐지기능을 부여하여, 이 컴파일러를 사용하였을 때 실행 프로그램의 성능에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다.
CATV 망 분배 센터 관리를 위한 웹 기반의 사용자 인터페이스

As CATV network become a part of Internet, CATV Network Management System (CNMS) take an important role of reliable noise control. CATV network is a hybrid fiber coaxical (HFC) network in tree structure. Upward signals are vulnerable to noise, since noise level is aggregated as the signals approache the root of the network. We designed and implemented a CNMS for noise control based on advanced Internet technology. The CNMS is composed of three servers for web, database and communication. Interface and core communication modules were constructed by using web and Java technology. Lower level communication module was developed by using a Linux server. The CNMS can monitor and control remotely each node in the network. We expect the developed CNMS would serve as a platform for advanced intelligent CATV network management.
