果汁內에서의 病原細菌의 生存을 본바 수박, 참외 및 도마도汁에서 Salmonella typhimurium, Escherichia coli 및 Staphyococcus aureus는 20℃에서는 24時間에 肝盛한 繁殖을 하였으나 4℃에서는 2週日 保存하여도 菌數의 增加를 보지 못하였다. Vibrio parahaemolyticus는 20℃ 및 4℃에서 時間의 經過에 따라 菌數가 減少되며 特히 도마도汁에서는 急速히 滅菌된다. 참외를 E. coli가 들어있는 食鹽水에 담구면 3日만에 菌이 果內에 侵入하였다. Since there is a possibility that food poisoning may be caused by fruits contaminated with pathogenic microorganisms, we studied the growth of some pathogenic bacteria responsible for the food poisoning in fruit extracts. Fruit extracts contain rich nutrients for the growth of bacteria and it was found that Salmonella typhimurium, Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus can propagate well in water melon and tomato wxtracts at 20 C. However, these organisms did not grow in the extracts at 4 C. Vibrio parahaemolyticus was sterilized gradually in water melon and melon extracts and rapidly in tomato extract. E. coli can invade in melon at third day when melon was immersed in saline containing the organism.

One hundred and thirty-three strains of Salmonella and 18 of Shigella were isolated from patients visited Kyungpook University Hospital and Taegu Presbyterian Hospital during the period from January through' December '1973, and their characteristics were studied. All strains of Salmonella were typed as Salmonella typhi. Among 18 strains of Shigella, 5 strains were classified as Shigella flexneri la, four as Sh. flexneri 2a, and 9 as Sh. sonnei. A sharp increase in the proportion of Shk sonnei among strains of Shigella was noted.
