The structural and useful characteristics of silk habutae treated with silicone resin by emulsion finishing method were studied. The results were obtained through crease recovery test, water repellency test, scanning micrograph observation, amino acid analysis, X-Ray diffraction analysis, and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy. The results are summarized as follows; 1) The improvement in crease recovery of silk habutae finished with silicone resin, was observed by soaping treatment and curing conditions. 2) The higher water repellency and stiffness in silk fabrics finished with silicone resin was found by the fabric inspection and the scanning electron microscopic observation. It is suggested that silicone resin impregnated into the void of silk fibroin. 3) The polar side chains of amino acid composition were decreased, when the silicone resin was treated on silk fibroin. 4) Through Amino acid analysis of silicone resin finished fibroin, the different amounts of amino acid composition was indicated due to silk fibroin silicone polymer reaction and the stuructural difference of its fibroin were also proved by X-ray diffractograms. 5) The functionality of the siloxane compound may be deduced from the silicone finished silk habutae by Fourier Transform Spectroscopy. It was concluded from the above results that the useful characteristics of silk fabric can be improved by silicone resin finishing.
견사의 탄성적성질에 관한 연구 1. 견층부위별견사의 항장성

견층부위별견사의 기계적특성을 파악하고저 Deniroscope와on을 이용하여 실험한바 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1) 견층별견사의 건조 및 습윤절단강도는 견사섬도감소율에 비례하여 저하한다. 2) 내층견사의 습윤항장력은 외층견사에 대하여 37%로 나타났다. 3) 습윤처리에 의한 전견층의 절단강도(g/d) 31%, 감소하였다. 4) 대섬도당 견사의 건조 및 습윤절단강도는 내층견사가 제일 높았다. 5) Apparent young's modulus는 내층견사에서 증가하였다. 6) 습윤견사의 절단신도는 건조견사에 비해 15% 증가하였다. The tensile properties of cocoon filament obtained from the dried cocoon were studied by deniroscope and tensilon with special attachments. The strength and dried elongation at break feint with dry and swollen samples were observed. The apparent young's modulus was also calculated with the dry samples. The results obtained are as follows. 1) The breaking strength of dry and swollen samples decreased in parallel with denier decreasing ratio in the whole length of a cocoon filament. 2) Tensile strength of inner-layer filament, when treated at the temperature of 95$^{\circ}C$ for 15 min., was 37 per cent of outer-layer filament. 3) By swelling treatment, the breaking strength of the filament was decreased but the elongation was increased. 4) Apparent young's modulus and tensile strength per denier of inner-layer filament were higher than those of the rest cocoon layer.

This work was carried out to examine the abnormal silk fibers produced by the silkworm fed on mulberry leaves contaminaed by agricultural chemicals. The results obtained are as follows: 1) The feeding on mulberry leaves contaminated by agricultural clemicals caused the abnormal silk fibers. 2) Among the abnormal types of silk fiber were shapes of balls, sausages, ribbons, rosaries and cudgels, the ribbon shape was larger than others in size and size variations.

Bacterial survival was determined in grafted silk habutae inoculated with Staphylococcus aureus and 2-hydroxyethylmethacrylate was used for graft finishing. Microbe was incubated at 37℃ with heart infusion broth for 12 hours. Cell in silk fabrics were examined after incubation by using phosphate bufter(pH7.0). Antibacterial activity of the grafted silk fabrics was determined after bacterial recovery. It was observed that the grafted silk fabrics with 2-hydroxyethylmethacrylate retained good bacteriostatic activity. It was believed that monomer was filled in the spaces of fibrils and Voids on the silk fibroin. So the silk filaments were not subjected to the rapid microbiological deterioration.

This study was conducted to get a basic information to improve the reelability of cocoon in Korea. The cocoon reelability was analyzed for the results of the regional adaptability estimates in 1972∼1979. In this work, it was discussed that the change of reelability due to silkworm variety, regional rearing condition and the monthly average rainfall amount in each silkworm rearing season. The results obtained were summarized as follows; 1) The average variation of cocoon reelability of silkworm variety was considerably greater than that of the regional rearing condition. 2) It was more favorable to produce the good reelability of cocoon in autumn than in spring as the average rainfall amount was estimated as a small quantity in the cocooning period in autumn. 3) It showed the lower reelability of cocoon when it rained over average rainfall amount in each silkworm rearing season.
