Background/Aims: Bilateral endoscopic drainage with self-expanding metallic stent (SEMS) can be used to effectively manage hilar malignant biliary obstruction. However, the benefits of using a trisegment drainage method remain unknown. Methods: This study retrospectively reviewed the data of 125 patients with Bismuth type IIIa or IV unresectable malignant strictures who underwent bilateral endoscopic drainage using SEMSs at four tertiary centers. The patients were divided into the bilateral and trisegment drainage groups for comparison. The primary endpoint was stent patency and the secondary endpoints were technical success, technical and clinical success of reintervention, and overall survival. Results: The technical success rates of the bilateral and trisegment drainage groups were 95% (34/36) and 90% (80/89) (p=0.41), respectively, with median stent patency durations of 226 and 170 days (p=0.26), respectively. Although the technical success of reintervention was not significantly different between the two groups (p=0.51), the clinical success rate of reintrvention was significantly higher in the trisegment drainage group (73% [11/15] vs 96% [47/49], p=0.009). The median survival times were 324 and 323 days in the bilateral and trisegment drainage groups, respectively (p=0.72). Multivariate Cox hazards model revealed no stent patency-associated factor; however, chemotherapy was associated with longer survival. Conclusions: Although no significant difference was noted with respect to stent patency, significantly higher clinical success rates were achieved with reintervention using the trisegment drainage method than using the bilateral drainage method alone.

Objective: The purpose of our study was to investigate the risk factors of remnant tumor growth after incomplete resection (IR) of cervical dumbbell-shaped schwannomas (DS). Methods: Twenty-one patients with IR of cervical DS with at least 2 years of follow-up were included and were divided into 2 groups: the remnant tumor growth (G) (n = 10) and no growth (NG) (n = 11) groups. The tumor location in the axial plane according to Toyama classification, the location of the remnant tumor margin, and the tumor growth rate (MIB1 index) index were compared. Results: No significant differences in Toyama classification and MIB-1 index were found. Age was significantly higher in the G group (61.4 years vs. 47.6 years; p = 0.030), but univariate logistic regression analysis revealed little correlation to the growth (odds ratio [OR], 1.08; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.001–1.166; p = 0.047). Seventeen patients (9 in the G and 8 in the NG group) underwent the posterior one-way approach, and significant differences in the location of the remnant tumor margin were confirmed: within the spinal canal in 1 and 0 case, at the entrance of the intervertebral foramen in 7 and 1 cases, and in the foramen distal from the entrance in 1 and 7 cases, in the G and NG groups, respectively (p = 0.007). The proximal margin was identified as a significant predictor of the growth (OR, 56.0; 95% CI, 2.93–1,072; p = 0.008). Conclusion: Remnant tumors with margins distally away from the entrance of the foramen were less likely to grow after IR of cervical DS.
한일학생 및 일본 근로자에 대한 아침-저녁형과 수면습관에 대한 비교

한국대학생 533명 및 468명의 일본 대학생, 동일 연령대의 311명의 일본근로자에 대해 아침-저녁형 설문지 및 생활 습관 조사를 실시했다. 점수분포는 정규 분포였으나, 일본대학생 그룹은 약간 야간형으로 기울어진 분포를 보였다. 세 그룹 전부 기상시각 및 취침시각은 아침형,중간형,저녁형 순으로 늦었다. 그러나 일반적으로 한국대학생이 일본 대학생 보다 빠른 기상시각을 보였다. 근로자 집단은 학생보다 빠른 기상과 취침을 보였다. 세개 그룹 모두 아침형,중간형,저녁형 순으로 취침기상시각 및 수면시간의 변동성이 크고, 입면시각이 길고, 기상시 기분이 나빴다. 한국대학생이 일본 대학생 보다 약간 아침형으로 지우쳐 있지만 양국학생의 전반적인 수면습관은 비슷했다. 그리고 아침형 보다 저녁형의 수면 습관이 불규칙했다. 그리고 일본 근로자의 점수가 일본 학생 집단보다 약간 높고, 수면습관도 조금 달랐다. 이것은 사회생활의 제한으로 인한 수면습관의 변화가 M-E점수에 영향을 준다고 생각된다. The Morningness-eveningness questionnaire(MEQ) and life habits inventory were carried out with the three groups of 533 Korean students, 468 Japanese students, and 311 Japanese workers in the same age level. The distributions of score for these three groups look like normal, but the Japanese students distributions of is skewed to evening type. The self-reported waking times and bedtimes for the three groups was late the order of morning type, intermediate type, and evening type. However, generally the Korean students woke up earlier than the Japanese students. The workers always went to bed and woke up earlier than the students. For all the three groups, the variation in bedtime, waking time, and sleep length was large, the sleep latency was long, and the mood at waking was bad in the order of morning type, intermediate type, and evening type. The scores of the Korean student group on the questionnaire were distributed more to morning type than the Japanese student group, but sleep habits of the students of both countries were similar. The subjects of the evening type had more irregular sleep habits than those of the morning type. In comparison with the student group, the Japanese workers of the same age had higher scores on M-E and slightly different sleep habits. This means the change of sleep habits as a result of the demands of employment cause the change in the scores.
THE VLBI MONITORING PROJECT FOR 6.7 GHz METHANOL MASERS USING THE JVN/EAVN

We have initiated a Very Long Baseline Interferometer (VLBI) monitoring project of 36 methanol maser sources at 6.7 GHz using the Japanese VLBI Network (JVN) and East-Asian VLBI Network (EAVN), starting in August 2010. The purpose of this project is to systematically reveal 3-dimensional (3-D) kine-matics of rotating disks around forming high-mass protostars. As an initial result, we present proper mo- tion detections for two methanol maser sources showing an elliptical spatial morphology, G 002.53+00.19 and G 006.79-00.25, which could be the best candidates associated with the disk. The detected proper motions indicate a simple rotation in G 002.53+00.19 and rotation with expansion in G 006.79-00.25, respectively, on the basis of disk model fits with rotating and expanding components. The expanding motions might be caused by the magnetic-centrifugal wind on the disk.
