        A Numerical Model for Nuclide Migration in the Far-field of the Repository

        A numerical model for nuclide migration through fractured rock media has been developed. Nuclide transport with groundwater in rock fissures and the diffusion of nuclides into rock matrix are considered one-dimensionally . In the safety assessment of the repository for radioactive waste, this one-dimensional model by the finite-difference scheme, which enables us not only to use more realistic boundary conditions but also to model the nonhomogeneous rock medium as the multilayered media, can be used effectively with the analytical mode. The solution by the numerical model will be verified analytically, and then extended to the double-layered rock medium transport model.

        Effect of Various Leg-Crossing Positions on Muscle Activities of Rectus Femoris, Tensor Fascia Latae, and Hamstring in Healthy 20's Adults

        Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of leg-crossing positions on muscle activities of rectus femoris, tensor fascia latae, and hamstring in healthy 20's adults. Methods: Twenty healthy subjects were asked to perform three leg-crossing positions, leg crossing (LC), tailor crossing (TC), and ankle crossing (AC). Surface electromyography (EMG) was used to evaluate the activities of rectus femoris, tensor fascia latae, and hamstring during upright sit posture (UP) and three leg-crossing positions and UP was compared to three leg-crossing positions. Repeated one way ANOVA was used for data analysis. The alpha level was set at 0.05. Results: The results showed significant difference in the muscle activities of rectus femoris, tensor fascia latae, and hamstring among leg-crossing positions. The muscle activity of the rectus femoris was significantly lower in LC and TC positions than UP. The muscle activity of tensor fascia latae was significantly higher in LC position than UP and other leg-crossing positions. The muscle activity of hamstring was significantly higher in LC and TC positions and significantly lower in AC position than in UP. Conclusion: Our study suggests that the activity of hip muscles was affected by pelvic and knee alignment in various leg-crossing positions.

        Correlation between Gluteus Maximus Strength and Pelvic Rotation Angle during Prone Hip Extension

        Background: Active prone hip extension is an exercise commonly used in physical therapy for patients with hip or trunk dysfunction. Insufficient trunk muscle activation or gluteus maximus (GM) activity leads to lumbopelvic rotation during active prone hip extension. However, there is still a lack of research on whether GM strength or GM strength asymmetry causes pelvic rotation. Purpose: The current study aimed to investigate the relation of GM weakness to pelvic rotation during active prone hip extension in healthy individuals, specifically by examining the correlation between GM strength and pelvic rotation angle, as well as between GM strength asymmetry and difference in the pelvic rotation angles on the left and right sides. Study design: Cross-sectional study Methods: This analysis included 35 healthy male participants. Bilateral GM strength was measured using the Smart KEMA tension sensor. The pelvic rotation angle on the right and left legs was measured with a smart phone-based measurement tool during prone hip extension. The significance of the correlations between GM strength and pelvic rotation angle and between GM strength asymmetry and difference in pelvic rotation angles during prone hip extension was assessed using Pearson correlation coefficients. Results: There was a very large significant negative correlation between GM strength and pelvic rotation angle (r=–0.807) and a very large significant positive correlation between GM strength asymmetry and difference in pelvic rotation angles (r=0.825) during prone hip extension. Conclusions: GM strength and GM strength asymmetry influence pelvic rotation during hip extension movement.

        Effect of a Workplace-Based Work-Conditioning Program on Management of Work-Related Musculoskeletal Disorders

        The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of a workplace-based work-conditioning program (WCP) on the management of work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WRMDs) in an automo-bile-parts manufacturing company. In total, 1,110 subjects with WRMDs participated in workplace-based WCP emphasizing function-centered management and ergonomics. We investigated the incidence of WRMDs variables (number of persons diagnosed with industrial accident-related WRMDs, number of cases of WRMD) and financial benefits (cost of workers' compensation insurance and lost work days related to WRMDs) per year before and after WCP. Additionally, we compared self-reported pain intensity and functional disability in subjects with musculoskeletal pain before and after the WCP. Pain intensity was measured using a visual analog scale (VAS), and functional disability was measured by the neck disability index (NDI) and the Oswestry disability Index (ODI). The number of person diagnosed with in dustrial accident-related WRMDs, the number of cases of WRMD, the cost of workers' compensation in surance and lost work days related to WRlVIDs per year decreased by 51%, 37%, 34%, and 47%, respectively, and VAS, NDI, and am scores decreased significantly after implementation of WCP (p

        교각운동시 이마면에서 엉덩관절 위치가 배근육 근활성도에 미치는 영향

        본 연구의 목적은 이마면에서 엉덩관절 위치에 따라 배근육들의 근활성도를 측정하여 비교함으로 이마면에서 엉덩관절의 위치가 배근육들의 근활성도에 영향을 미치는지 알아보는 것이다. 연구방법은 20대의 건강한 남녀 26명을 대상으로 엉덩관절 중립, 모음, 그리고 벌림 자세에 따라 교각운동을 하였을 때 표면 근전도 장비를 이용하여 양쪽 배곧은근과 배바깥빗근, 배속빗근의 근활성도를 비교하였다. 통계 방법은 반복측정 일요인 분산분석을 실시하였고, 유의수준은 0.05로 하였다. 연구 결과 배바깥빗근과 배속빗근은 이마면에서 엉덩관절 위치에 따라 유의한 차이가 있었고, 배곧은근은 유의한 차이가 없었다. 양쪽 배바깥빗근과 왼쪽 배속빗근은 엉덩관절 중립자세보다 엉덩관절 모음 자세에서 근활성도가 유의하게 증가하였으며 오른쪽 배속빗근은 엉덩관절 벌림 자세보다 엉덩관절 모음 자세에서 근활성도가 유의하게 증가하였다. 본 연구를 통해 엉덩관절 모음 자세가 다른 자세들에 비해 안정화운동에 더욱 효과적일 수 있다는 것을 알 수 있었고, 안정화운동 프로그램을 고안할 때 운동의 강도를 조절하기 위해 이마면에서 엉덩관절의 위치에 대한 요소를 적용할 수 있을 것이다. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of the hip positions in frontal plane on abdominal muscle activities during bridging exercise. Twenty six subjects who have healthy conditions were asked to perform bridging exercise in three starting positions which are hip abduction, neutral and hip adduction. We used surface electromyography to compare the activities of both external oblique, internal oblique and rectus abdominis muscle. We analyzed the data by using repeated one way ANOVA, The alpha level was set at 0.05. The results showed that the muscle activities of both sides of external oblique, and internal oblique were significantly different among three starting positions. The activity of both sides of rectus abdominis were insignificantly different among three positions. The muscle activities of both sides of external oblique muscle and left internal oblique in bridging exercise with hip adduction position were significantly greater than hip neutral positions. The muscle activity of right internal oblique in bridging exercise with hip abduction positions. Our results suggest that bridging exercise with hip adduction position is recommended to lumbar stabilization exercise and the factor of hip position is important for controlling exercise intensity when designing bridging exercise program.

        팔굽혀펴기시 지면 높이가 위팔세갈래근과 큰가슴근의 근활성도에 미치는 영향

        본 연구는 팔굽혀펴기 운동시 지면 높이가 위팔세갈래근과 큰가슴근의 근활성도에 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 실시하였다. 22명의 건강한 남성을 대상자로 모집하여 지면 높이가 0㎝, 8㎝, 13㎝, 20㎝에서 각각 팔굽혀펴기 운동을 실시하였으며 팔굽혀펴기 동작을 시작자세, 시작자세에서 끝자세로 이동, 끝자세인 세 구간으로 나누어 각각 구간에서 표면근전도 장비를 통해 양쪽 위팔세갈래근과 큰가슴근의 근활성도를 측정하였다. 연구결과 시작자세와 시작자세에서 끝자세로 이동하는 구간에서 양쪽 위팔세갈래근과 큰가슴근의 근활성도는 지면 높이에 따라 유의한 차이가 있었지만, 끝자세 구간에서는 양쪽 위팔세갈래근은 지면높이에 따라 유의한 차이가 있었으나 큰가슴근은 유의한 차이가 없었다. 본 연구를 통해 지면의 높이가 낮을수록 양쪽 위팔세갈래근과 큰가슴근의 근활성도는 감소된다는 것을 알 수 있었고, 이 근육들은 하지마비환자들의 이동에 중요한 근육으로 팔굽혀 펴기 운동을 통한 근력 강화 운동 프로그램시 지면 높이는 운동 강도의 요소로 적용할 수 있을 것이다. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of surface height on muscular activity of triceps brachii and pectoralis major muscle during push-up exercise. Twenty-two healthy subjects were recruited and were asked to push-up exercise in four different surface height(0, 8, 13, and 20㎝). The push-up exercise was divided three stages which were holding in starting position, moving from starting position to final position, and holding in final position. We used surface electromyography to measure the activities of both triceps brachii and pectoralis major. We analyzed the data by using repeated one way ANOVA, the alpha level was 0.05. The results showed that the activity of triceps brachii and pectoralis major muscle is significantly different among four surface height in starting position and moving from starting position to final position. The activity of both triceps brachii is significantly different, however the activity of both pectoralis major is not significantly different holding in final position. The triceps brachii and pectoralis major muscle strength should be essential for transport in paraplegia patient. Therefore, the surface height in push-up exercises should use intensity factor of strengthen triceps brachii and pectoralis major.
