We present a high-resolution van Leer-type numerical scheme for the isentropic model of fluid flows in a nozzle with variable cross-section. Basically, the scheme is an improvement of the Godunov-type scheme. The scheme is shown to be well-balanced, as it can capture exactly equilibrium states. Numerical tests are conducted which include comparisons between the van Leer-type scheme and the Godunov-type scheme. It is shown that the van Leer-type scheme achieves a very good accuracy for initial data belong to both supersonic and supersonic regions, and the exact solution eventually possesses a resonant phenomenon.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to understand the influence of various factors on smartphone purchase decisions in Vietnam and to investigate the effect of involvement and country image in the process. Research design, data, and methodology: In order to achieve the research purpose, a hypothesis and a research model were developed by to validate the proposed study model. First, an exploratory factor analysis was performed to confirm reliability and validity. a confirmatory factor analysis was conducted based on the reliability and exploratory factor analysis results. Finally, by checking the discriminant validity, we empirically tested hypotheses after comparing the correlation value with the root average variance extracted. Results: As a result, there is a control effect on the influence of product characteristics, friends, and family on the purchase decision in the process of factors affecting the purchase decision. Among them, there is evidence that brand awareness, family and friends are the most powerful factors. Research shows that product features, brand awareness, pricing, social influence, and family and friends positively influence smartphone purchase decisions. Implications: This study identified the purchase decision factors of consumers in large cities of Vietn am. As a result, companies that in tend to advance to Vietnam should establish marketing strategies to heighten the brand image. Smartphones are high-priced products for consumers in Vietnam, so the products are thoroughly evaluated before purchasing them. Accordingly, product marketing tailored to the consumers in Vietnam is necessary.

<P>Four new phenolic compounds, caesalpiniaphenols A–D (<B>1</B>–<B>4</B>), together with eight known compounds were isolated from <I>Caesalpinia sappan</I> heartwood. The chemical structures were established mainly by NMR, MS, ECD, and Mosher’s method. Splitting technique and Godunov-type schemes for 2D shallow water equations with variable topography

We present numerical schemes to deal with nonconservative terms in the two-dimensional shallow water equations with variable topography. Relying on the dimensional splitting technique, we construct Godunov-type schemes. Such schemes can be categorized into two classes, namely the partly and fully splitting ones, depending on how deeply the scheme employs the splitting method. An upwind scheme technique is employed for the evolution of the velocity component for the partly splitting scheme. These schemes are shown to possess interesting properties: They can preserve the positivity of the water height, and they are well-balanced.

Cuckoo Search Algorithm (CSA), a new meta-heuristic algorithm based on natural phenomenon of Cuckoo species and Lévy flights random walk has been widely and successfully applied to several optimization problems so far. In the paper two modified versions of CSA, where new solutions are generated using two distributions including Gaussian and Cauchy distributions in addition to imposing bound by best solutions mechanism are proposed for solving economic load dispatch (ELD) problem with multiple fuel options. The advantages of CSA with Gaussian distribution (CSA-Gauss) and CSA with Cauchy distribution (CSA-Cauchy) over CSA with Lévy distribution and other meta-heuristic are fewer parameters. The proposed CSA methods are tested on two systems with several load cases and obtained results are compared to other methods. The result comparisons have shown that the proposed methods are highly effective for solving ELD problem with multiple fuel options and/nor valve point effect.
Cytotoxic Compounds from the Roots of Pulsatilla koreana

Seven compounds including hederagenin 3-[(O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→2)-α-L-arabinopyranosyl) (1), 3β-[(O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→2)-α-L-arabinopyranosyl)oxy]olean-12-en-28-oic acid (2), caffeic acid methyl ester (3), ferulic acid (4), orebiusin A (5), latifonicinin C (6) and 5-(hydroxymethyl)-2-furfuraldehyde (7) were isolated from the ethyl acetate fraction of the roots of Pulsatilla koreana. Their chemical structures were established based on physicochemical and spectroscopic data analyses. All isolates were investigated for their cytotoxic activity against cancer cell lines. Among them, compound 1 showed inhibitory activity against A549, COLO 205, and L1210 cancer cell lines with IC50 values of 15.8, 36.5, and 22.8 µg/mL, respectively.

Soluble epoxide hydrolases (sEH) are enzymes present in all living organisms, metabolize epoxy fatty acids to 1,2-diols. sEH in the metabolism of polyunsaturated fatty acids plays a key role in inflammation. In addition, the endogenous lipid mediators in cardiovascular disease are also broken down to diols by the action of sEH that enhanced cardiovascular protection. In this study, sEH inhibitory guided fractionation led to the isolation of five phenolic compounds trans-resveratrol (1), trans-piceatannol (2), sulfuretin (3), (+)-balanophonin (4), and cassigarol E (5) from the ethanol extract of the seeds of Passiflora edulis Sims cultivated in Vietnam. The chemical structures of isolated compounds were determined by the interpretation of NMR spectral data, mass spectra, and comparison with data from the literature. The soluble epoxide hydrolase (sEH) inhibitory activity of isolated compounds was evaluated. Among them, trans-piceatannol (2) showed the most potent inhibitory activity on sEH with an IC50 value of 3.4 mM. This study marks the first time that sulfuretin (3) was isolated from Passiflora edulis as well as (+)-balanophonin (4), and cassigarol E (5) were isolated from Passiflora genus.
