<P>We demonstrate a cylindrical water triboelectric nanogenerator (CW-TENG) that generates sustainable electrical output. The inner surface of the cylinder was patterned into superhydrophobic and hydrophilic parts to control water flow inside the packaged design of CW-TENG. Here, various thicknesses and roughnesses of the superhydrophobic surface, generated using aluminum oxide nanostructures for enhanced electrostatic induction, were measured to obtain the maximum output and superhydrophobicity. Also, we demonstrate the possibility of using a hydrophilic surface for energy harvesting and as a water reservoir in the packaged design.</P>

Mastitis is a prevalent inflammatory disease that remains one of the main causes of poor quality of milk. Phytoncides are naturally occurring anti-inflammatory compounds derived from plants and trees. To determine if treatment with phytoncide could decrease the severity of lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammatory responses, mammary alveolar epithelial cells (MAC-T) were pretreated with phytoncide (0.02% and 0.04% (v/v)) followed by LPS treatment (1 and 25 μg/ml). The results demonstrated that phytoncide downregulated LPSinduced pro-inflammatory cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) expression. Additionally, LPS-induced activation of ERK1/2, p38, and Akt was attenuated by phytoncide. Treatment of cells with known pharmacological inhibitors of ERK1/2 (PD98059), p38 (SB203580), and Akt (LY294002) confirmed the association of these signaling pathways with the observed alterations in COX-2 expression. Moreover, phytoncide attenuated LPS-induced NF-κB activation and superoxide production, and, finally, treatment with phytoncide increased Nrf2 activation. Results suggest that phytoncide can decrease LPS-induced inflammation in MAC-T cells.

라깡의 정신분석의 윤리학과 레비나스의 책임의 윤리철학은 상용되는 의미의 "객체"화를 시킬 수 없는 "실재," 혹은 절대 타자성의 사고에 기초한다. 라깡은 "쥬이쌍스"(jouissance)와 "써블라임"(sublime)의 윤리학을 통해 재현 불가능한 실재계의 타자에 대한 욕망의 실현 가능성을 제시하고, 레비나스는 초월의 이념을 통해 동일자로 환원할 수 없는 타자의 절대성을 논증하며 절대적 타자에 대한 책임 윤리학을 제안한다. 불가능으로서의 라깡의 타자와 레비나스의 절대적 타자에 관한 철학적 사유는 문학적 재현에 대한 포스트모던적 사고와, 문학과 예술의 윤리적 해석의 가능성을 열어준다는 점에서 문학적 논의와 밀접한 관련을 가진다. 특별히 라깡의 『안티고네』 읽기는 불가능한 욕망의 대상, 즉 실재계의 타자를 "사물"(the Thing)의 위엄으로 끌어올림으로써 욕망의 실현을 성취하는 라깡의 써블라임의 윤리학을, 그리고 베케트의 『에이 조』에 나타난 해체적 글쓰기는 "말해진 것"(the said)에 의해서 언제나 잊혀지는 "말하는 것"(the saying)을 드러내기 위해 레비나스가 제시한 끊임없는 "가로막음"(interruption)과 "심화환원"(reduction)의 과정을 통해 타자 윤리학을 향한 문학적 글쓰기의 가능성을 제시하고 있다.

<P><B>Goldnanopartikel</B> (AuNPs) wurden mit einem rot fluoreszierenden Protein (RFP, rosafarbene Formen im Bild) als Modellantigen und einem Oligonukleotid (CpG), das die Immunantwort stimuliert, funktionalisiert. Diese AuNPs ermöglichten bei Verwendung als Krebsimpfstoffe in einem Tumormodell den effizienten Transport eines Antigens zum Zielort, die Verfolgung des Impfstoffs mithilfe nichtinvasiver klinischer Bildgebung sowie Vorbeugung und Behandlung von Krebs.</P>
In Vitro Effect of DFC-2 on Mycolic Acid Biosynthesis in Mycobacterium tuberculosis

DFC-2, a methyl 5-[2-(dimethylamino)ethoxy]-7,12-dioxo-7,12-dihydrodinaphtho[1,2-b:2’,3’- d]furan-6-carboxylate, is reported to have antitubercular effects against Mycobacterium tuberculosis. At concentrations ranging from 0.19 to 0.39 μg/ml, DFC-2 inhibited both drugsusceptible and -resistant strains of M. tuberculosis. Microarray analyses were employed to gain insights into the molecular mechanisms of DFC-2’s action in M. tuberculosis. The most affected functional gene category was “lipid biosynthesis,” which is involved in mycolic acid synthesis. The decrease in transcription of genes related to mycolic acid synthesis was confirmed by RT-PCR. Furthermore, we found that DFC-2 triggered a reduction in mycolic acid levels, showing a similar pattern to that of mycolic acid synthesis inhibitor isoniazid. These results may explain how this compound kills mycobacteria efficiently by inhibiting mycolic acid synthesis.

Objective: This study was conducted to examine the effects of a mixture of pinecone oil, garlic, and brown seaweed extracts (PGBE) on milk production traits as well as physiological and ethological parameters in Holstein cows during the summer season (24 May to 03 July 2015, Korea). Methods: Among the extract combinations tested, we found that the level of 2,2'-azino-bis (3-ethylberzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid) cation radical scavenging activity of the 0.16% PBGE complex at ratio of 1:1:1 (vol/vol) was comparable to that of the control (ascorbic acid; 1 mg/mL). Additionally, the PBGE complex reduced lipopolysaccharide-induced COX-2 expression in bovine mammary epithelial cells. Based on these findings, 40 lactating Holstein cows were used to measure the effects of PBGE complex at ratio of 1:1:1 (vol/vol) on milk production, immune response, metabolites, and behavior patterns by dividing the cows into two groups fed diets containing PGBE complex (n = 20; 0.016%/kg feed dry matter basis) or not containing PGBE complex (control, n = 20) for 40 d. Results: Results showed that PGBE complex did not influence milk composition, eating and ear surface temperature patterns, immune response, or metabolic parameters but promoted average milk yield throughout the experimental period. Additionally, a tendency of higher total antioxidant capacity and glutathione in the PGBE group was observed compared to the those in the control. When the temperature-humidity index (THI) exceeded 72 (average THI = 73.8), PGBE complex-fed cows experiencing heat stress showed increased milk yield and a tendency of increased rumination compared to the control. Conclusion: We suggest that incorporation of a combined mixture of 0.016% PGBE (1:1:1 ratio, vol/vol) to diet has the potential to improve milk yield and health status of cows under mild to moderate heat stress, denoting that it might be useful as an alternative anti-stressor in the diet of dairy cows under hot conditions.

We report the prenatal diagnosis of an unbalanced translocation between chromosome Y and chromosome 15 in a female fetus. Cytogenetic analysis of parental chromosomes revealed that the mother had a normal 46,XX karyotype, whereas the father exhibited a 46,XY,der(15)t(Y;15) karyotype. We performed cytogenetic analysis of the father's family as a result of the father and confirmed the same karyotype in his mother and brother. Fluorescence in situ hybridization and quantitative fluorescent-polymerase chain reaction analysis identified the breakpoint and demonstrated the absence of the SRY gene in female members. Thus, the proband inherited this translocation from the father and grandmother. This makes the prediction of the fetal phenotype possible through assessing the grandmother. Therefore, we suggest that conventional cytogenetic and molecular cytogenetic methods, in combination with family history, provide informative results for prenatal diagnosis and prenatal genetic counseling.

Background: Although water chambers are often used as surrogate blood-warming devices to facilitate rapid warming of red blood cells (RBCs), these cells may be damaged if overheated. Moreover, filtered and irradiated RBCs may be damaged during the warming process, resulting in excessive hemolysis and extracellular potassium release. Methods: Using hand-held syringes, each unit of irradiated and leukocyte-filtered RBCs was rapidly passed through a water chamber set to different temperatures (baseline before blood warming, $50^{\circ}C$, $60^{\circ}C$, and $70^{\circ}C$). The resulting plasma potassium and free hemoglobin levels were then measured. Results: Warming RBCs to $60^{\circ}C$ and $70^{\circ}C$ induced significant increases in free hemoglobin (median [interquartile ranges] = 60.5 mg/dl [34.9-101.4] and 570.2 mg/dl [115.6-2289.7], respectively). Potassium levels after warming to $70^{\circ}C$ ($31.4{\pm}7.6mEq/L$) were significantly higher compared with baseline ($29.7{\pm}7.1mEq/L$; P = 0.029). Potassium levels were significantly correlated with storage duration after warming to $50^{\circ}C$ and $60^{\circ}C$ (r = 0.450 and P = 0.001; r = 0.351 and P = 0.015, respectively). Conclusions: Rapid warming of irradiated leukoreduced RBCs to $50^{\circ}C$ may not further increase the extracellular release of hemoglobin or potassium. However, irradiated leukoreduced RBCs that have been in storage for long periods of time and contain higher levels of potassium should be infused with caution.
