<P>Thermal therapy is one of the most popular physiotherapies and it is particularly useful for treating joint injuries. Conventional devices adapted for thermal therapy including heat packs and wraps have often caused discomfort to their wearers because of their rigidity and heavy weight. In our study, we developed a soft, thin, and stretchable heater by using a nanocomposite of silver nanowires and a thermoplastic elastomer. A ligand exchange reaction enabled the formation of a highly conductive and homogeneous nanocomposite. By patterning the nanocomposite with serpentine-mesh structures, conformal lamination of devices on curvilinear joints and effective heat transfer even during motion were achieved. Smartphone Based Quantitative Stress Measurement System

Most people are currently under mental stress whereas its accurate diagnosis and measurement are very difficult to accomplish. For the precise measurement of the stress, either researchers or doctors conduct a survey, electroencephalogram, and bio-signal. The adverse symptoms, such as insomnia, lethargy, obesity, mental disorder, and cardiovascular disorder, will occur in the circumstances of excessive stress. In order to measure, manage, and transmit data simply and quickly via the only smartphone, the system for the quantitative analysis of cortisol by a smartphone linked with own lateral flow assay is built for the Point-of-care-testing (POCT) while the previous cortisol measurement and analysis are slow and complicated due to the small molecules of cortisol. Our system is composed of a smartphone, its holder, and stress sensor. First of all, in the case of the stress sensor, red color appears when conjugated with the antibody fixed on the strip through the sandwich assay reaction, and intensity of color appearance depends on the concentration of cortisol.
Lateral Flow Immune-sensor to Measure Human Physiological Stress in Saliva

Stress is a physiological response to the mental, emotional, or physical status, which is an anxiety-related disorder that occurs after an exposure to an emotionally traumatic event, such as life-threatening experiences (i.e. nature disasters and serious accidents). Stress biomarkers can be used for the diagnosis of various status of disease and have consistent detectability. Above all, salivary cortisol and alpha-amylase are regarded as a fear biomarker and, consequently, has been exploited for monitoring sympathetic nervous system reactions. The stress biomarker is active, time-dependent, highly changing, and small molecules. For these reasons, stress biomarkers can be detected by point-of-care test (POCT) device. Most generally used commercially accessible POCT device is the lateral flow assay. In this paper, we propose the lateral flow immune-sensor (LFI) to detect the cortisol concentrations, which represent the stress levels, from human salivary. The detection time was within 10 minutes. Our immune-sensor can measure various concentrations of cortisol at a range of 1 -100 ng/ml (R2 = 0.9599). The detection limit of the assay was calculated as 1 ng/ml. We successfully demonstrated the potential of the lateral flow immune-sensor for the measurement of human physiological stress in saliva and validated the quantitative analysis using commercially available reader.

<P>Super-stiff, anisotropic hybrid hydrogels were prepared <I>via</I> a linear remodeling of highly stretchable alginate/polyacrylamide hydrogel networks followed by a secondary cross-linking. The elastic modulus of the hybrid hydrogels was successfully controlled by the degree of stretch, polymer composition, and crosslinking cations.</P>
