<P>We propose a highly efficient hybrid light-emitting device (LED) with a single active layer where CdSe/ZnS quantum dots (QDs) are dispersed as a guest material in a conjugated polymer (co-polymer) matrix used for a host material. In our structure, the QDs act on light-emitting chromophores by trapping the migrating excitons in the co-polymer matrix via F?rster energy transfer, and improve the charge balance within the co-polymer by trapping the injected electron carriers. Experimental results show that the electroluminescent properties highly depend on the doping density of the QDs within the co-polymer matrix, where the luminance as well as the external current efficiency are initially enhanced with increasing the concentration of the dispersed QDs in the co-polymer solution, and then such properties are degraded due to aggregation of the QDs. We can get the maximum brightness of 9,088 cd/m(2) and the maximum external current efficiency of 7.5 cd/A in mixing ratio of the QDs by 1.0 wt%. The external current efficiency is enhanced by over 15 times and the turn-on voltage is reduced in comparison with the corresponding values for a reference device that uses only a co-polymer as an active layer.</P>

Background: To provide a long-term bacterial seal through the formation of reparative dentin bridge, calcium silicate-based pulp capping materials have been used at sites of pulpal exposure. The aim of this study was to evaluate the mineralization-inducing potentials of calcium silicate-based pulp capping materials (ProRoot MTA [PR], Biodentine [BD], and TheraCal LC [TC]) in human dental pulp cells (HDPCs). Methods: Specimens of test materials were placed in deionized water for various incubation times to measure the pH variation and the concentration of calcium released. The morphology of HDPCs cultured on the specimens was examined using a confocal laser scanning microscope (CLSM). Alizarin red S staining and alkaline phosphatase assays were used to evaluate mineralization-inducing potentials of the capping materials. <P>Quorum sensing (QS) inhibitor-based therapy is an attractive strategy to inhibit bacterial biofilm formation without excessive induction of antibiotic resistance. Thus, we designed Ca<SUP>2+</SUP>-binding poly(lactide-<I>co</I>-glycolide) (PLGA) microparticles that can maintain a sufficient concentration of QS inhibitors around hydroxyapatite (HA) surfaces in order to prevent biofilm formation on HA-based dental or bone tissues or implants and, therefore, subsequent pathogenesis. Poly(butyl methacrylate-<I>co</I>-methacryloyloxyethyl phosphate) (PBMP) contains both Ca<SUP>2+</SUP>-binding phosphomonoester groups and PLGA-interacting butyl groups. The PBMP-coated PLGA (PLGA/PBMP) microparticles exhibited superior adhesion to HA surfaces without altering the sustained release properties of uncoated PLGA microparticles. PLGA/PBMP microparticle-encapsulating furanone C-30, a representative QS inhibitor, effectively inhibited the growth of <I>Streptococcus mutans</I> and its ability to form biofilms on HA surface for prolonged periods of up to 100 h, which was much longer than either furanone C-30 in its free form or when encapsulated in noncoated PLGA microparticles.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>

Aims: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the third leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide. Recently, PD-1 blockade has shown promising results in the treatment of advanced HCC. However, only 15-20% of patients showed objective response, suggesting the need for development of an effective combination therapy. CD47 is an innate immune checkpoint molecule known as ‘don’t-eat me’ signal, which plays a critical role in macrophage activation and phagocytosis. In the current study, we investigated the effects of anti-CD47 inhibition in combination with PD-1 blockade in a syngeneic preclinical model of HCC. Methods: The effect of anti-CD47 and/or anti-PD-1 treatment was studied in vitro and in vivo using a syngeneic preclinical model of HCC. Flow cytometry was used to assess the phagocytic activity of macrophages. Results: Phagocytosis of HCC cells by macrophages was increased after treatment with anti-CD47 and/or anti-PD-1 treatment. Further, combinatory treatment of anti-CD47 and anti-PD-1 blockade significantly suppressed tumor growth and improved survival in the syngeneic preclinical model of HCC. Conclusions: Targeting CD47 in combination with anti-PD-1 immune checkpoint blockade has a potential immunotherapeutic efficacy in HCC.

김현의 비평은 일반적으로 ‘문학의 자율성’에 대한 옹호로 그 성격이 규정되어 왔다. 순수․참여 논쟁에서부터 그는 ‘형식주의자’로 불리며 문학의 자율성을 역설하는 대표적인 비평가로 분류되었다. 이에 따라 그의 비평에서 문학과 사회의 관계, 혹은 문학과 정치의 관계에 대한 탐구는 상대적으로 소홀하게 취급되어 온 것이 사실이다. 그러나 ‘문학의 자율성에 대한 옹호자’라는 김현에 대한 기존의 시각을 괄호에 넣고 그의 비평을 읽어보면 그의 문제의식과 지향점이 문학의 정치성과 밀접하게 연관되어 논의되고 있음을 발견할 수 있다. 본고에서는 이러한 문제의식 아래 김현의 비평에서 문학과 사회의 관계 혹은 문학의 정치성에 대한 사유들을 읽어내고자 했다. 특히 당대 참여문학 의 대표 논자였던 김수영에 대한 그의 비평들에 주목하고, ‘문학이란 무엇 인가’라는 문제에 있어 김현과 김수영이 공명하고 있는 지점들을 고찰하였다. 이들은 현대 자본주의 사회에서 문학이 ‘부정’과 ‘고통’의 언어로 존재 할 수밖에 없으며, 이때의 ‘부정’은 그 사회의 가치 기준에 대한 부정인 동시에 기존의 문학 형식에 대한 부정을 담보해야 한다는 공통된 인식을 보여준다. 특히 김현과 김수영은 4․19혁명을 사유하는 데 있어서 여타의 문인들과 극명한 차이를 드러낸다. 그들은 문학을 통해 혁명을 재현하거나 혁명의 가치를 설파하는 기존의 방식과 거리를 두면서, 4․19라는 정치적 혁명이 어떻게 문학적 혁명으로 이어질 수 있는지에 대해 고민했다. “문학은 꿈이다”라는 김현의 명제나, “문학은 불가능에 대한 싸움”이라는 김수영의 주장은 이러한 사유의 결과물이라고 할 수 있다. Kim, Hyun’s criticism is generally defined as advocacy of ‘literary autonomy’ for its character. From pure-participative disputes, he was called ‘formalist’ and was classified as figurative critic in asserting autonomic literature emphatically. Accordingly, it is as a matter of fact that the exploration on the relation between literature and society or the relation between literature and politics in his criticism has relatively received relatively little attention. However, when you put the existing views of Kim, Hyun as ‘an advocate of autonomic literature’ in the braces and read his criticism, you can find that his problem consciousness and aiming points are discussed in keen relations with his literary politics. Under this critical mind, this paper aims to find out the relations between literature and society or reasons of literary politics in Kim, Hyun’s criticism. In particular, this study takes notice of his criticism on Kim, Suyeong, one of the representative disputants in those days’ participative literature, and explores spots of being sympathized with each other, Kim, Hyun and Kim, Suyeong on a question, ‘what is the literature?’ They show a common consciousness that the literature can exist only in a language of ‘negation’ and ‘agony’ in the modern days of capitalism society, and the ‘negation’here should secure negation of value criteria of the society and negation of existing literary forms at the same time. Particularly, in their thoughts for 4․19 revolution, Kim Hyun and Kim Suyeong disclose an extreme difference from other literary people. They keep a distance from existing way of reproducing revolutions or elucidating values of revolutions through the literature, and languish for how 4․19 political revolution can be led to a literary revolution. Kim Hyun’s proposition, “literature is a dream,” and Kim Soyeong’s argument, “literature is a fight for something impossible” canbe accepted as results of these thoughts.

In this paper, we introduce sign recognition algorithms to help facilitate communication between hearing-impaired using sign language and speech-language users. The algorithm is developed to use Microsoft"s depth sensor, kinect, to receive human joint information and to analyze sign language by learning joint information in neural networks. This neural networks is formed models that analyze arm movement and finger, about 88% accuracy was achieved in the test set.
