Circumscribed acral hypokeratosis (CAH) is a rare disorder characterized by a well-circumscribed and erythematous depressed patch on the palm or sole. Clinically, patches of depressed skin are seen most commonly on the thenar or hypothenar areas in middle-aged or elderly. Although the pathogenesis of CAH is not well established, trauma is uncommonly cited as a precipitating factor. Recent reports suggest that CAH may be caused by human papilloma virus (HPV). Histologically, it has a characteristic stair-like configuration between normal and involved skin with an abrupt thinning of the horny layer and a decreased granular layer, giving the clinical appearance of a punched-out lesion. The lack of epidermal atypia or cornoid lamellae clearly differentiates CAH from its clinical mimics, Bowen disease and porokeratosis. All lesions reported to date show benign biological behavior. We report four cases of circumscribed acral hypokeratosis occurring in old female with results from microscpic analysis, HPV testing and treatment.
A case of psoriasis triggered by TNF-alpha inhibitors in patient with ankylosing spondylitis

Tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) antagonists is a pharmaceutical drug that suppresses the physiologic response to TNF-α, which is involved with various autoimmune diseases. It is well-known that the TNF-α antagonists are remarkably effective for psoriasis, but cutaneous adverse reactions of these agents including paradoxical induction or aggravation of psoriasiform eruption have been also reported. We present a case of psoriasis triggered by treatment of TNF-α inhibitors in patient with ankylosing spondylitis. A 61-year-old woman with ankylosing spondylitis and no personal or family history of psoriasis was treated with infliximab. Thirteen months after initiation of infliximab, she developed erythematous scaly plaques on her scalp and extremities. Histopathologic examination showed psoriasiform dermatitis. The skin lesion was improved by topical calcipotriol treatment. The skin lesion exacerbated after infliximab was re-administrated and it has been controlled by calcipotriol ointment. New onset or severe exacerbation of psoriasis is a rare complication of TNF-α inhibitor therapy. There is mounting evidence that a key innate immune pathway for triggering common human autoimmune disease, including psoriasis, involves plasmacytoid dendritic cell precursors and IFN-α production. The finding of increased production of IFN-α in TNF-α inhibitor? induced psoriasis is a possible pathophysiologic explanation for this phenomenon.
A CAPS Marker for Sex Distinction in Actinidia arguta

Actinidia arguta is an indigenous species of Korean kiwifruit. Genetic diversity could be increased by using the A. arguta as kiwifruit breeding materials and the royalties could be decreased. Kiwifruit is a dioecious species and could not distinguish the female and male during the juvenile period. The marker for sex determination could increase the efficiency of kiwifruit breeding. In this study, cleaved amplified polymorphism sequence (CAPS) marker was developed for sex determination in A. arguta. The previously performed genotyping-by-sequencing reads were re-aligned in A. chinensis genome (genotype Red5) and 40,099 SNPs were extracted in this study. Twenty-one SNPs were filtered by comparing the SNP locus of female and male accessions of A. arguta. Subsequently, 16 CAPS markers were designed based on filtered SNPs. PCR was performed using 33 A. arguta accessions including 12 females and 21 males. The polymorphism of CAPS markers was observed using restriction enzyme and 2% agarose gel electrophoresis. Among the 16 CAPS markers, only one marker (CBk25ca01) could distinguish the sex to use restriction enzyme MboI. The expected DNA product sizes have 300 bp in females and 147/153 bp in males. The observed DNA product size corresponded to expected sizes in 33 A. arguta accessions. CBk25ca01 could determine clearly the sex compared to the previous sex determination markers because this marker targets the sex chromosome. Therefore, this marker could improve the efficiency of A. arguta breeding program.
Development of a CAPS Marker for Discriminating Sex in Actinidia arguta

Actinidia arguta is a Korean native kiwifruit with valuable traits for kiwifruit breeding, such as cold hardiness, disease tolerance, and high nutritional value. Early sex discrimination is a priority in kiwifruit breeding programs because Actinidia species are dioecious vines. A cleaved amplified polymorphic sequence (CAPS) marker discriminating sex was developed using genotyping-by-sequencing (GBS)-derived single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). Previously obtained GBS reads were re-aligned to the kiwifruit reference genome organized at the pseudo-chromosomal level. These GBS-SNPs could divide A. arguta accessions according to sex. Candidate CAPS markers were designed using these SNPs located on sex chromosomes. Among them, only the CAPS marker designed using the SNP located at 10,236,410 bp on sex chromosome was able to discriminate the sex of A. arguta accessions. This might be because the SNP located at 10,236,410 bp had higher read depth than other candidate SNPs. This CAPS marker, named CBk25ca01, produced DNA fragments of 300 and 147/153 bp in female and male A. arguta accessions, respectively. The CBk25ca01 marker will be useful to improve kiwifruit breeding programs by reducing the time needed to discriminate sex.
