Torsades de pointes is a form of polymorphic ventricular tachycardia that is associated with prolongation of the QT interval, characterized by QRS complexes of progressively changing amplitude and contour that seem to revolve around the isoelectric line. The most common cause of Torsades de pointes induced by antiarrhythmic agents, occupying in certain drugs or toxin, electrolyte disturbance, congenital QT prolongation syndrome. Cardiotoxicity terfenadine, in overdose a widely used, nonsedating antihistamine, has been reported. Case after administration of terfenadine and ketoconazole causing syncope and torsades de pointes have been reported in recommended dose. We report a case of QT prolongation with torsades de pointes after therapeutic administration of terfenadine, a long acting histamine H1 receptor antagonist, together with ketoconazole, an antifungal preparation. The patient is a 43-year-old female, who experienced palpitation, dizziness and syncopal episoders after coadministration of terfenadine and ketoconazole, for a fungal infection of the skin. The ECG showing typical episodes of torsades de pointes with QT prolongation. Magnesium sulfate was given, torsades de pointes did not recur. The patient was discharged with improved condition.

According to favorable water quality, groundwater is used as subsitutive water resources for surfare water. However, groundwater is contaminated more and more due to industrialization and population increase. This study assesses groundwater vulnerability to contaminants in 12 dongs (administrative districe) of Changwon city using with DRASTIC. DRASTIC was originally applied to the situations that contamination sources are on ground surface, and contaminants flow into groundwater with infiltration of rainfall. In addition to DRASTIC factors, groundwater contamination in urban area is also related with overpumping and with lowering of water level. Correlation coefficient between mumimum values of DRASTIC index and unfitness rate to drinking water quality for 10 dongs is low as 0.40. On the contrary, the correlation coefficient between minimum values of DRASTIC index and groundwater discharge rate and that between minimum values of DRASTIC index and well distribution density are 0.70 and 0.87, respectively. Thus, to evaluate the potential of groundwater contamination in urban areas, it is necessary to consider other factors such as groundwater abstraction rate and well density per unit area with ratings and weights as well as existing six DRASTIC factors.

To develop and aceclofenac soft capsule, four preparations with various solubilizers were prepared and their dissolution test was carried out. Among four preparations tested, a preparation with ethanolamine was selected a formula of aceclofenac soft capsule (Clanza S^(™), since it showed the fastest dissolution rate. Bioequivalence of aceclofenac tablet, Airtal^(™)(Dae-Woong Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.) and aceclofenac soft capsule, Clanza S^(™)(Korea United Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.) was evaluated according to the guideline of KFDA. Fourteen normal male volunteers (age 20-25 years old) were divided into two groups and a randomized 2×2 cross-over study was employed. After oral administration of one tablet or capsule containing 100 ㎎ of aceclofenac, blood ws taken at predetermined time intervals and the concentration of aceclofenac in plasma wa determined with an HPLC method under UV detector. The pharmacokinetic parameters (C_(max), T_(max) and AUC_(t)) were calculated and ANOVA was utilized for the statistical analysis of parameters using logarithmically transformed AUC_(t), C_(max) and T_(max) between Airtal tablet and Clanza soft capsule were 2.89%, 0.18% and 43.0%, respectively. There were no sequence effects between two formulations in these parameters. The 90% confidence intervals using logarithmically transformed data were within the acceptance range of log(0.8) to log(1.250(e.g.log(0.81) - log(1.23) and log(0.89) - log(1.14)) for AUC_(t) and C_(max), respectively. Thus, the criteria of the KDFA guidelines for the equivalence was satisfied, indicating that Clanza S^(™) soft capsule is bioequivalent to Airtal^(™) tablet.

The 5-HTT gene is a candidate gene for influencing the clinical response to antidepressant treatment. The purpose of this gene study was to determine the relationship between serotonin transporter gene polymorphism at the SLC6A4 and the response to citalopram in a Korean population with major depressive disorder (MDD). Citalopram was administered for 8 weeks to the 80 patients who completed this study. The severity of depression was assessed with the 21-item Hamilton Depression Rating scale, and the 5-HTTLPR genotypes in the patients were determined using the polymerase chain reaction. Our result did not showed significant differences in, allele, and carrier distribution between the normal group and MDD patients. This study suggest that polymorphism of the 5HTT gene was not associated with citalopram response to MDD in the Korean population.

Solid phase extraction (SPE) purification method is the efficient and well-known tool for automated [$^{11}C$]acetate synthesis. A fully automated homemade module adopting the SPE method and 'pinch' valves was developed very economically with a universal interface board, a relay card and an open source programmable logic controller. The radiochemical yield of the optimized [$^{11}C$]acetate synthesis by this system was $58.8{\pm}2.1%$ (n=10, decay-corrected) from $15.5{\pm}0.19GBq$ of $[^{11}C]CO_2$ as starting activity, and total synthetic time was 15 minutes. HPLC analysis showed its high radiochemical purity as $97.4{\pm}1.1%$ without possible by-products.
