배경잡음에 강인한 한글 문자 분리 알고리즘에 관한 연구

In this paper, we propose a segmentation method to extract Korean characters from the image taken by a video camera under the uncontrolled industrial environment. Unlike the input data obtained through the image scanner, the camera image contains various background features including shades caused by background objects and background picture. Thus, it is almost impossible to extract the characters from the camera image by using the global thresholding algorithm typically used in most of the Korean character recognition algorithms developed so far. To solved this problem, we propose a method consisting of the gradient direction based stroke candidate detection and the stroke expansion. The test results show that the proposed algorithm can reliably extract the Korean characters under the various input conditions. It also shows that the development of a Korean character recognition system for industrial environment is possible.
Visualization of Tooth for Non-Destructive Evaluation from CT Images

This paper reports an effort to develop 3D tooth visualization system from CT sequence images as a part of the non-destructive evaluation suitable for the simulation of endodontics, orthodontics and other dental treatments. We focus on the segmentation and visualization for the individual tooth. In dental CT images teeth are touching the adjacent teeth or surrounded by the alveolar bones with similar intensity. We propose an improved level set method with shape prior to separate a tooth from other teeth as well as the alveolar bones. Reconstructed 3D model of individual tooth based on the segmentation results indicates that our technique is a very conducive tool for tooth visualization, evaluation and diagnosis. Some comparative visualization results validate the non-destructive function of our method.

멀티미디어 컴퓨터의 광범위한 보급으로 패턴인식, 음성인식, 내용기반검색 등과 같은 분야에서 멀티미디어 신호처리 기술인력의 요구가 증대되고 있다. 그러나 실질적인 응용 능력을 갖춘 기술인력은 소수에 불과하다. 멀티미디어 분야에서 실무적인 감각을 갖춘 기술자를 양성하기 위해서는 이론을 효과적으로 제시하고 제시된 이론을 실제로 적용해 볼 수 있는 실습과정을 동시에 수행할 수 있는 통합교육환경이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 효율적인 멀티미디어 신호처리 교육을 위한 통합교육환경을 제안한다. 제안된 시스템은 다양한 해법들을 체험할 수 있고 새로운 아이디어를 쉽게 구현해 볼 수 있는 환경인 MADE 와 상응 C 프로그래밍 환경 그리고 이론을 제시할 수 있는 브라우저를 하나로 결합하여 이론과 실습을 유기적으로 수행할 수 있도록 설계하였다. With the wide spread use of multimedia computers, the demand for the multimedia signal processing engineer is increasing in the areas including pattern recognition, intelligent human user interface, speech recognition, content based search, etc. However, there are not many engineers capable of developing practical systems in the multimedia signal processing area. To train multimedia signal processing engineers with practical sense, we need an integrated education system which can efficiently present the image processing theory and, at the same time, provide hand-on experiments for the theory presented. In this paper, we propose an integrated education systems for the multimedia data processing. It is tightly integrated with the Multimedia Algorithm Development Environment(MADE) and MS visual C programming environment.
CT 영상에서 치아와 턱의 3차원 모델 생성을 위한 contour 기반 알고리즘

CT, MRI와 같은 의료 영상을 3차원 재구성을 통해 3차원으로 가시화하는 기술은 의료 분야에서 진단과 진료에 많이 활용되고 있다. 이는 의사에게 정확한 진단과 시술에 대한 확신을 환자에게는 시술에 대한 이해와 신뢰를 심어준다. 치아의 경우 치과 진료가 개개의 치아에 이루어진다는 점을 고려하면 개개의 치아가 개별적으로 모델링 되어 3차원 상에 가시화 되어야 한다. Contour 기반 알고리즘은 2차원 단면 데이터로부터 고속 렌더링과 높은 품질의 3차원 모델 생성이 가능하다. 본 논문에서는 CT에서 추출한 치아 contour 데이터로부터 삼각형 패치를 생성하고, 어금니의 분기 문제를 해결하는 3차원 치아 모델 생성을 위한 contour 기반 알고리즘을 제안한다.
Spatiotemporal Directional Number Transitional Graph for Dynamic Texture Recognition

<P>Spatiotemporal image descriptors are gaining attention in the image research community for better representation of dynamic textures. In this paper, we introduce a dynamic-micro-texture descriptor, i.e., spatiotemporal directional number transitional graph (DNG), which describes both the spatial structure and motion of each local neighborhood by capturing the direction of natural flow in the temporal domain. We use the structure of the local neighborhood, given by its principal directions, and compute the transition of such directions between frames. Moreover, we present the statistics of the direction transitions in a transitional graph, which acts as a signature for a given spatiotemporal region in the dynamic texture. Furthermore, we create a sequence descriptor by dividing the spatiotemporal volume into several regions, computing a transitional graph for each of them, and represent the sequence as a set of graphs. Our results validate the robustness of the proposed descriptor in different scenarios for expression recognition and dynamic texture analysis.</P>
