Determination of gaseous organofluoro compounds in off-gas from thermal treatment of perfluorooctanoic acid(PFOA) adsorbed onto granular activated carbon(GAC) was studied. Atmospheric pressure helium radiofrequency barrier discharge atomic emission spectroscopy(He-rfBD-AES) to determine gaseous organofluoro compounds was optimized to achieve detection limit of 6.9 ngF. Thermal treatment of PFOA on GAC in nitrogen stream at 700 °C was tested in laboratory. Mineralized fluorine, remaining perfluorocarboxylic acids and gaseous organofluoro compounds were determined to be 33.2%, less than 0.05% and 13.2%. However, 53.6% was still missing.

<P>Myosin VIIA is an unconventional myosin, responsible for human Usher syndrome type 1B, which causes hearing and visual loss. Here, we studied the molecular mechanism of regulation of myosin VIIA, which is currently unknown. Although it was originally thought that myosin VIIA is a dimeric myosin, our electron microscopic (EM) observations revealed that full-length Drosophila myosin VIIA (DM7A) is a monomer. Interestingly, the tail domain markedly inhibits the actin-activated ATPase activity of tailless DM7A at low Ca(2+) but not high Ca(2+). By examining various deletion constructs, we found that deletion of the distal IQ domain, the C-terminal region of the tail, and the N-terminal region of the tail abolishes the tail-induced inhibition of ATPase activity. Single-particle EM analysis of full-length DM7A at low Ca(2+) suggests that the tail folds back on to the head, where it contacts both the motor core domain and the neck domain, forming an inhibited conformation. We concluded that unconventional myosin that may be present a monomer in the cell can be regulated by intramolecular interaction of the tail with the head.</P>
Breakthrough Rate of Alkali Metal Halide in Gaseous or Fine Particulate Form by Glass Fiber Filter

After an accident of nuclear power plant, volatile cesium (Cs) were released to atmosphere and polluted various things. Some of waste contaminated with radioactive Cs were to be incinerated however those facilities are not built for the processing of radioactive waste. Bag filter (filtration type dust-collector) is a system, which is collects gaseous pollutants and particulate matter after injection of slaked lime in a gas. Although it has been reported that radioactive Cs can be removed more than 99.9% trapping mechanism with a bag filter equipped in solid waste incinerators and effect of injection of slaked lime should be furthermore studied. The paper is focused on collecting efficiency of NaCl, KCl and CsCl by glass fiber filter with or without slaked lime coating.

Objective: In steady-state free precession (SSFP) cine imaging, signal loss can be observed as accelerated dark flow in patients with valvular disease and decelerated dark flow (DDF) in patients with severe left ventricular (LV) dysfunction. In our study, we measured DDF with optical flow calculations and investigated the relationship between DDF and myocardial strain or intraventricular dyssynchrony. Materials and Methods: Fifty-seven consecutive patients with heart failure were retrospectively enrolled. In the short-axis orientation, the optical flow magnitude vector of the DDF was calculated over a cardiac cycle. The maximum value of the mean magnitude vector in the LV blood region was defined as the DDF index. The systolic circumferential strain (CS) of the LV free-wall, as well as the absolute difference in systolic timing of the LV free-wall and interventricular septum (LV dyssynchrony, LVD), was measured using the feature-tracking method. Spearman’s correlation coefficients (ρ) were calculated between DDF and CS or LVD. Results: Median and interquartile ranges (25th to 75th percentile) of measured DDF, CS, and LVD in 57 patients were 14.0 (10.3 to 20.4), -8.0% (-13.3 to -3.2), and 40 ms (21 to 99), respectively. There were statistically significant correlations between the values of DDF and CS as well as LVD (0.60 and 0.48; p<0.01 for both). Conclusion: Measurement of DDF may provide a specific clinical picture of myocardial strain and intraventricular dyssynchrony. Furthermore, it is possible to cost-effectively measure DDF without additional image acquisition during routine MR examination.
