낙동강하구 생태계에서의 환경요인 분석과 질소순환에 관여하는 미생물 변화에 관한 연구

낙동강 하구에서 질소순환에 관여하는 미생물군집의 분포와 활성의 계절적 공간적 변화와 차이를 조사하기 위하여 95년 12월부터 96년 11월까지 매월 낙동강 하구의 3개 정점을 대상으로 12가지의 환경인자와 총세균, 병원성세균의 개체수 및 질소 순환에 관계하는 개체수를 분석하였다. 염분의 분포에 있어서 정점 Ⅰ에서는 하구둑건설 이후 해수의 영향이 매우 적게 미쳐 농도가 낮을 뿐 아니라, 다른 환경요인과는 달리 변화가 가장 적다. 정점 Ⅱ와 Ⅲ은 감조수역으로 염분의 변동이 가장 심하다. 수온이 낮은 겨울철에 높은 용존산소의 분포를 나타내어 용존산소와 수온이 밀접한 관련이 있음을 보여준다. 강우량 또한 무기영양염류의 분포에 영향을 많이 미쳐 5-7월에 평균치 이상의 높은 영양염류의 농도를 나타냄을 알 수 있다. 본 실험의 결과에 의해 낙동강 하구의 질산염질소의 분포는 계절에 따라 생태계의 외부로부터 질산염 질소의 유입이 많음은 물론 질화작용에 의해서 영향을 받는 것을 알 수 있다. 질소순환에 관계되는 세균의 연중 분포가 환경인자와 무기영양염류의 영향을 받아 나타남을 알 수 있다. 또한 연중 높은 수치를 보이는 암모니화세균과 질소고정세균에 의해 토양으로부터 많은 양의 영양물질이 유입되는 것을 추측할 수 있다. 인산염인과 엽록소 a의 상관관계는 이미 잘 알려져 있다. 녹조현상이 심각했던 96년 4월과 7월사이에 인산염인과 엽록소 a의 농도가 아주 높았던 것으로 보아, 본 연구에서도 그러한 양상을 보이고 있는 것으로 추측된다. From December 1995 to November 1996, 12 variables in physico-chemical factors, bacterial populations(total bacteria, pathogenic bacteria, concern of nitrogen cycle) were investigated 12 times as 3 stations in the estuary of Naktong river. Salinity was not only low concentration which is little effect of seawater as a result of the esturay dam construction at station Ⅰ, but also which is little variation than other parameters and much variation at station Ⅱ and Ⅲ.
국산 점토를 이용한 폐수 중의 중금속 흡착에 관한 연구

국내에서 무작위로 채취한 점토와 폐도자기를 이용하여 폐수중의 중금속의 흡착 실험을 수행하였다. 중금속 처리제로서 점토의 사용 가능성을 알아보기 위하여, pH, 온도, 흡착 시간 및 공존 이온 등이 점토의 흡착 특성과 흡착 능력에 미치는 영향에 대하여 연구하였다. 모든 시료에 대하여 흡착 시간은 30분내에서 흡착 평형을 이루었다. 온도는 흡착 효율에 큰 영향은 없지만 낮은 온도에서 흡착량이 약간 증가하였으며, 최적 pH는 6 이상이었다. Cu(II)나 Zn(II)과 같은 양이온이 공존하고 있을 때는 서로 경쟁적으로 흡착하려는 성질 때문에 Pb(II) 흡착능은 저하하였다. 폐도자기는 불산 수용액으로 처리하므로서 흡착능이 증가하였다. The adsorption of heavy metals in the waste water was carried out on the various domestic clays and waste pottery. The effect of parameters such as pH, temperature, adsorption time, and coexisting cations on the sorption ability and characteristics was investigated to find out whether the clays could be used as adsorbents. Adsorption equilibrium was reached within 30 minutes on all the clays. Adsorption efficiency was not influenced by temperature, but slightly increased at lower temperature. The optimum pH was found to be above 6. When other cation such as Cu(II) or Zn(II) coexisted with Pb(II), the adsorption amount of Pb(II) decreased because of the competing adsorption. The sorption ability of waste pottery was enhanced by treating HF solution.

Background: Onychomycosis, especially toenail onychomycosis has become one of the common fungal infection and has historically been regarded as a cosmetic rather than medical problem by many patients, even by physicians. Recently, however, there are several reports that is a refractory disease which may cause a deleterious effect on patiets quality of life (QOL). Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of toenail onychomycosis on QOL in Korea and to assess the chandes of QOL after treatment. Methods: Total 1004 patients with toenail onychomycosis which was confirmed by clinical findings and KOH preparation were were enrolled at 47 dermatologic centers in Korea, and interviewed with standardized QOL questionnaire before and after sytemic antifungal treatment. Responses to the questionnaire were scored by 5-point scale (1∼4) and averaged, and were analyzed for 5 dimensions of emotional impact, social impact, symptorn and functional impact, patients views concerning treatment, and relationship with doctor. Results: 1. Before and after treatment, the most serious impact was emotional dimension showing 1.90 and 1.30 in average score (AS), and social (AS: 1.14 and 0.83) and symptom and functional impact (AS: 1.05 and 0.92) was also affected. 2. In female rather than male, statistically more significant impact on patients QOL was observed in all dimensions. 3. After treatment, 3 of 5 dimensions were improved significantly - emotional dimension (AS : from 1.90 to 1.30), social dimension (AS: from 1.14 to 0.83), patients view concerning treatment (AS: from 1.34 to 1.02). 4. The drgree of patients satisfaction at the therapeutic effect was very high- 62.4% (immediately after treatment) and 65.8% (9 months affer initiation of treatment) of patients answered excellent or good. Conclusion: This study confirms that toenail onychomycosis has significant impact on the overall QOL of patients. Also the effect of antifungal therapy on patients QOL were watisfactory. Therefore, both doctor and patient should pay more attention to the treatment of onychomycosis. [Kor J Med Mycol 3(1): 115∼124]

Background: Psoriasis is difficult to cure and usually recurrent, therefore continuous management with effective and safe method is important. Combination topical therapy with corticosteroid and vitamin D analogue or fixed ratio compound has been claimed to have better efficacy and safety but little study has been conducted to investigate optimal regimen in the maintenance phase. Objective: To investigate optimal maintenance regimens for the topical treatment of Korean patients with psoriasis vulgaris Methods: After 8 week-induction treatment with calcipotriol/ betamethasone dipropionate gel once daily, only Responders who achieve “clear” or “almost clear” based on Investigator’s Global Assessment of Disease Severity (IGA) were randomized to one of three treatment groups: Group1 (PRN - once daily as needed), Group2 (Continuous - once daily) and Group3 (Weekends - twice weekly) for additional 8-week maintenance treatment. Safety and efficacy assessments were performed on the subjects at baseline, Week 4, 8, 12 and 16. Results: Percentage of Responder according to IGA at Week 16 was 63.89% for Group1, 67.5% for Group2 and 31.43% for Group3. For primary end point, Group1 and 2 werestatistically superior to Group3, whereas Group1 and 2 didn’t differ significantly. Regarding safety aspect, during induction period, total 56 adverse events were reported among 45 subjects (23.32%) and there was no severe AE. During maintenance period, total 19 AEs (Group1: 9, Group2: 8, Group3: 2) were reported among 17 subjects (14.66%) (Group1: 7(18.92%), Group2: 8(20%), Group3: 2(5.13%)). No significant differences were seen among three groups. Conclusions: Calcipotriol/betamethasone dipropionate gel used as ‘PRN’ and ‘Continuous’ regimen during maintenance period was well tolerated and more effective than ‘Weekends’ regimen.

The following optimal parameters were found: 0.4 V amplitude, 500 Hz frequency, -0.7 V initial potential, and 0.015 V increment potential. These optimal conditions were also applied to sand obtained from the river site. The aforementioned technique is simpler and less costly compared to the common voltammetry and spectrophotometric methods.

Determination of Siloxanes in Biogas by Solid-phase Adsorption on Activated Carbon

The objective of this study was to develop a simple, less time-consuming and accurate sampling technique based on solid-phase sorption with activated carbon as the sorbents. The results from solid-phase sorption techniques were compared to that from a conventional solvent impinger-based technique to confirm the efficacy of the proposed method. The laboratory results indicated that the solid-phase sorption method was suitable for the determination of siloxanes as the measured concentrations were similar to that from a solvent impinge method. The data from solid-phase sorption method showed excellent recovery and reproducibility while the sampling was less labor intensive and less time consuming than the solvent impinge method. Following the laboratory tests, the solid-phase sorption technique was successfully applied to sampling biogas from a field site. This study shows that the activated carbon-based solid-phase sorption can be a reliable and less time-consuming option for the sampling and collection of siloxanes under various different landfill conditions.
