Particulate and gas sampling of prescribed fires in South Georgia, USA

Gaseous and particulate species from two prescribed fires were sampled in-situ, to better characterize prescribed burn emissions. Measurements included gaseous and fine particulate matter (PM<SUB>2.5</SUB>) species, particle number concentration, particulate organic carbon (POC) speciation, water-soluble organic carbon (WSOC) and water-soluble iron. Major PM<SUB>2.5</SUB> components included OC (~57%), EC (~10%), chloride (~1.6%), potassium (~0.7%) and nitrate (~0.9%). Major gaseous species include carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, methane, ethane, methanol and ethylene. Particulate organic tracers of biomass burning, such as levoglucosan, dehydroabietic acid and retene, increased significantly during the burns. Water-soluble organic carbon (WSOC) also increased significantly during the fire and levels are highly correlated with total potassium (K) (R<SUP>2</SUP> = 0.93) and levoglucosan (R<SUP>2</SUP> = 0.98). The average WSOC/OC ratio was 0.51 +/- 0.03 and did not change significantly from background levels. Thus, the WSOC/OC ratio may not be a good indicator of secondary organic aerosol (SOA) in regions that are expected to be impacted by biomass burning. Results using a biomass burning source profile derived from this work further indicate that source apportionment is sensitive to levels of potassium in biomass burning source profiles. This underscores the importance of quantifying local biomass burning source profiles.

Existence results for impulsive neutral functional integrodifferential equations with infinite delay

This paper is concerned with the existence of mild solutions for impulsive neutral functional integrodifferential equations with infinite delay in Banach spaces. The results are obtained by using the Krasnoselski-Schaefer type fixed point theorem. An example is provided to illustrate the theory.

Studies on extended egg preservation schedule from 120 days to 180 days was taken up with 20 germplasm accessions of mutant silkworm genetic stocks of Bombyx mori L. Statistical analyses of the data collected over three trials revealed no significant changes both in the qualitative and quantitative traits of the genetic stocks between treatment (6 months egg preservation) and control (4 months egg preservation), except for fifth instar larval duration in TMS-61, TMS-62, TMS64, TMS-31 and TMS-34 shell weight in TMS-62, TMS-64 and TMS-66. Thus, the results indicate that extended schedule of 6 months egg preservation can safely be adopted, which will reduce the cost of conservation and minimize the genetic erosion owing to reduced crop cycle.
EXISTENCE AND STABILITY RESULTS OF GENERALIZED FRACTIONAL INTEGRODIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS

This paper gives sufficient conditions to ensure the existence and stability of solutions for generalized nonlinear fractional integrodifferential equations of order $\alpha$ ($1 < \alpha < 2$). The main theorem asserts the stability results in a weighted Banach space, employing the Krasnoselskii's fixed point technique and the existence of at least one mild solution satisfying the asymptotic stability condition. Two examples are provided to illustrate the theory.

In this paper we prove the existence and uniqueness of solution of stochastic fractional neutral differential equations with Gaussian noise or Lévy noises by using the Picar-Lindelöf successive approximation scheme. Further stability results of nonlinear stochastic fractional dynamical system with Gaussian and Lévy noises are established. Examples are provided to illustrate the theoretical results.
