Solvothermal synthesis of Fe3S4@graphene composite electrode materials for energy storage

Necessity of novel energy storage devices extensively increased due to consumption of high power in various devices. To address the issues, in this report, we are addressing with a composite Iron Sulfde/reduced Graphene Oxide (Fe3S4/rGO) synthesized using the standard solvothermal method. X-ray difraction and Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope analysis results confrmed that Face-Centered cubic crystal structure of Fe3S4 and rGO’s surface is decorated with a mean diameter of <50 nm Fe3S4 respectively. Transmission Electron Microscopy images show further evidence that dispersed Fe3S4 on the rGO surface. Fe3S4/rGO exhibits specifc capacitance of 560 F/g than its individual counterparts (Fe3S4=200 F/g and rGO=145 F/g) at 1 A/g of current density and maximum cyclic stability of 91% capacitance retention after 2000 cycles that may be the infuence of synergy between the composite materials.

Medium optimization for the nuclease (RNase)production by Bacillus firmus VKPACU-1 was studied using the one-factor-at-a-time method and Response Surface Methodology (RSM). One-factor-at-a-time methodology was used to study the effects of carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus sources, and physical conditions such as pH and temperature, on nuclease (RNase) production. After optimizing the carbon (glucose) and nitrogen (tryptone) sources in the culture medium the physical conditions, pH (6.5) and temperature (35°C) were also optimized. Later these conditions were chosen as the main factors and used in the experimental design. The central composite design (CCD)of the RSM was employed to evaluate the interactive effects of these four variables. The optimized values obtained by the statistical analysis showed that glucose 5.95 g/L, tryptone 22.5 g/L, pH 6.5, and temperature 35°C affected maximum nuclease (RNase) production. When utilizing these proposed optimized conditions, the model predicted nuclease (RNase) production of 43.6 U/mL and in the validation experiments, the nuclease production obtained was 46.5 U/mL. The nuclease production in medium optimized by RSM was 26% higher, than in the non-optimized medium.

Background: To compare ultrasound-guided pulsed radiofrequency (PRF) of the genicular nerve with the genicular nerve block using local anesthetic and steroid for management of osteoarthritis (OA) knee pain. Methods: Thirty patients with OA knee were randomly allocated to receive either ultrasound-guided PRF of the genicular nerve (PRF group) or nerve block with bupivacaine and methylprednisolone acetate (local anesthetic steroid [LAS] group). Verbal numeric rating scale (VNRS) and Western Ontario McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) scores were measured at pre-procedure and 1-, 4-, and 12-weeks post-procedure. Results: VNRS scores decreased significantly (P < 0.001) in both the groups at 12 weeks and other follow up times compared to baseline. Seventy-three percent of patients in the PRF group and 66% in the LAS group achieved effective pain relief (≥ 50% pain reduction) at 12 weeks (P > 0.999). There was also a statistically significant (P < 0.001) improvement in WOMAC scores in both groups at all follow up times. However, there was no intergroup difference in VNRS (P = 0.893) and WOMAC scores (P = 0.983). No complications were reported. Conclusions: Both ultrasound-guided PRF of the genicular nerve and blocks of genicular nerve with local anesthetic and a steroid provided comparable pain relief without any complications. However, PRF of the genicular nerve is a procedure that takes much more time and equipment than the genicular nerve block.

Doped porous carbon materials have attracted great interest owing to their excellent electrochemical performance toward energy storage applications. In this report, we described the synthesis of nitrogen-doped porous carbon (N-PC) via carbonization of a triazine-based covalent organic framework (COF) synthesized by Friedel–Crafts reaction. The as-synthesized COF and N-PC were confrmed by X-ray difraction. The N-PC exhibited many merits including high surface area (711 m2 g−1), porosity, uniform pore size, and surface wettability due to the heteroatom-containing lone pair of electron. The N-PC showed a high specifc capacitance of 112 F g−1 at a current density of 1.0 A g−1 and excellent cyclic stability with 10.6% capacitance loss after 5000 cycles at a current density of 2.0 A g−1. These results revealed that the COF materials are desirable for future research on energy storage devices.

Barriers to health seeking constitute a challenging issue in the treatment of breast cancer. The current meta-synthesis aimed to explore common barriers to health seeking among Malaysian breast cancer patients. From the systematic search, nine studies were found meeting the inclusion criteria. Data extraction revealed that health behavior towards breast cancer among Malaysia women was influenced by knowledge, psychological, sociocultural and medical system factors. In terms of knowledge, most of the Malaysian patients were observed to have cursory information and the reliance on the information provided by media was limiting. Among psychological factors, stress and sense of denial were some of the common factors leading to delay in treatment seeking. Family member's advice, cultural beliefs towards traditional care were some of the common sociocultural factors hindering immediate access to advanced medical diagnosis and care. Lastly, the delay in referral was one of the most common health system-related problems highlighted in most of the studies. In conclusion, there is an immediate need to improve the knowledge and understanding of Malaysian women towards breast cancer. Mass media should liaise with the cancer specialists to disseminate accurate and up-to-date information for the readers and audience, helping in modification of cultural beliefs that hinder timing health seeking. However, such intervention will not improve or rectify the health system related barriers to treatment seeking. Therefore, there is an immediate need for resource adjustment and training programs among health professional to improve their competency and professionalism required to develop an efficient health system.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The host-guest interaction of gallic acid (GA) with p-sulfonatocalix[4]arene (p-SC4) is studied using emission and excited state lifetime techniques. The quenching effect on the emission intensity and excited state lifetime is observed upon binding. The impact of oxidation potential upon binding is studied using cyclic voltammetric technique. The structural features and the mode of binding of GA with p-SC4 is examined using <SUP>1</SUP>H NMR and rotating frame overhauser effect spectroscopy (ROESY) techniques. The binding of GA with p-SC4 has also been examined by means of density functional theory simulations. The calculated interaction energy of GA with p-SC4 (22.15kcal/mol) indicates the strong binding nature.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Formation of stable complex between GA and p-SC4 is studied in solution state. </LI> <LI> Quenching on emission intensity and lifetime of GA is observed upon addition of p-SC4. </LI> <LI> The downward potential shift is detected upon addition of GA on p-SC4 and vice versa. </LI> <LI> The <SUP>1</SUP>H NMR and ROESY spectral studies reveals that the GA is included into p-SC4. </LI> <LI> The theoretical simulations explains the intermolecular hydrogen bonding interactions between the GA and the p-SC4. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

In this work, a nanocomposite containing gold (Au) nanofibers decorated iron-metal–organic framework (Fe-MOF) was successfully synthesized for electrochemical detection of acetaminophen (AAP). The as-synthesized Au@Fe-MOF nanocomposite was confirmed by various characterization techniques. Morphological analysis showed that the Au nanofibers with an average size of less than 10 nm were dispersed on the Fe-MOF. Cyclic voltammetric analysis showed that the Au@Fe-MOF nanocomposite showed well-defined redox peaks with higher current than that of GCE and Fe-MOF. The Au@Fe-MOF/GCE exhibited a linear range, sensitivity, and detection limit of 0.5–18 µM, 4.95 µM/µA/cm2, and 0.12 µM, respectively. The Au@Fe-MOF/GCE showed a very low response for the interference materials. The real sample analysis revealed that the Au@Fe-MOF/GCE showed good recovery towards the AAP in urine and paracetamol. Therefore, the developed sensor can be used for quality control of AAP.

<P>The supramolecular host-guest investigation of Coumarin 460 (C460), a salient coumarin family dye molecule is studied with a noteworthy host molecule, p-sulfonatocalix[4]arene (p-SC4). The investigation is carried out by both experimental and theoretical approach. The binding affinity of C460 with p-SC4 is experimentally studied using absorption, emission, excited state lifetime and Cyclic Voltammetry methods. The binding constant is around 10(3) M- 1, which shows potent binding. The binding stoichiometry is 1:1. The binding orientations and binding energies are studied using computational simulations. The mode of binding is also established using NMR spectral techniques.</P>
