Effect of Horse Riding Simulator Exercise on Thickness of Transverse Abdominis in Healthy Adults

        ( Jaehyo Park ),( Youngmi Kim ) 대한물리치료학회 2019 대한물리치료학회지 Vol.31 No.2

Purpose: This study examined the effects of horse riding simulator exercise on the thickness changes in the transverse abdominis in normal adults. Methods: Forty-five healthy adults were recruited and randomized to a horseback riding simulation exercise group (n=15), a sling exercise group (n=15), and a trunk stabilization exercise group (n=15). A horseback riding simulator offers the indoor experience of horseback riding and mimics the rhythmic movement of horseback riding, thereby provided a virtual environment, such as riding a real horse on the front screen. The velocity of the horse riding simulator exercise was regulated within the subject’s ability to control the exercise on the horse riding simulator. A sling exercise group performed sling exercise under the inspection of the experimenter. In the trunk stabilization exercise group, the subjects were instructed to perform the exercise accurately and pause the session when pain occurred during the intervention. The subjects in each group carried out the interventions three times per week for six weeks. The thickness of the transverse abdominis was measured using a pressure biofeedback unit and the ultrasound. Results: Significant differences in the thickness of transverse abdominis within the groups were observed between before and after the interventions. On the other hand, there were no differences in the parameters among the groups. Conclusion: Horse riding simulator exercise can be an alternative to trunk stabilization exercise by increasing the thickness of the transverse abdominis in healthy adults.

With the decrease in the number of workers in the domestic agricultural population and the rapid aging of the population, the need for technology that minimizes the risk of disease and enables efficient work is emerging in agricultural sites. Robot technologies and devices for preventing and treating diseases of workers or patients are being developed in industrial and medical fields, but there is a limit to their application to agricultural work in which atypical work is mixed. In addition, considering that most of the agricultural population is elderly and female, it is essential to develop wearable suits that can experience muscle assistance effects with comfortable fit in various movements. In this paper, we developed a wearable suit system that considers wearability and weight as a muscle strength aid. And in order to evaluate the characteristics of the developed product, the performance is verified by measuring the degree of muscle fatigue through EMG tests.

천유혈의 해부학적 구조: 체계적 문헌고찰과 초음파 영상을 통한 확인

        Park Seongjun,Gong Nahyun,Lee Sumin,Shin Jinyeong,Kang Kyungho,Kim Jaehyo,Chu Hongmin 대한침도의학회 2023 대한침도의학회지 Vol.7 No.2

Background: TE16, an acupuncture point near the second cervical vertebra’s spinous pro- cess (C2), signifies the 16th point on the Triple Energizer Meridian. ‘Celestial’ (天) denotes its upper body placement, while ‘pivot’ (牖) metaphorically describes a window for ventila- tion and light. Positioned at the back of the neck, aligned with the mandible’s angle, TE16 aligns with TE17 in the front and SI16 at the posterior shield-shaped cartilage’s height. Traditional Chinese Medicine literature associates these points with opening and connect- ing the “five senses” or facial orifices. Methods: Our study systematically reviewed anatomical and physiological aspects related to TE16, exploring both Korean and international databases. We included various study types, emphasizing anatomical structure or physiological mechanisms associated with TE16. Results: Of 250 studies, eight were selected, predominantly from China (eight), Taiwan (one), and Korea (one). The research focused on anatomical structure, with one study ex- amining depth and another highlighting physiological mechanisms. Conclusion: The review disclosed TE16’s anatomical connection with the sternocleido- mastoid muscle, its potential involvement in conditions like sudden deafness, and ex- plored physiological mechanisms. Our findings endorse TE16’s use in clinical practice, emphasizing precise acupuncture depth and method while considering safety measures during needling. Integrating imaging technologies like ultrasound may enhance our under- standing of TE16’s anatomical structures.

        박관형(Kwanhyung Park),윤해룡(Haeyong Yun),조용준(Yongjun Cho),홍형길(Hyunggil Hong),장선호(Sunho Jang),강민수(Minsu Kang),김재효(Jaehyo Kim),김호찬(Hochan Kim) 한국기계가공학회 2022 한국기계가공학회지 Vol.21 No.12

Because there are few constraints on the structure design of a product in manufacturing, additive manufacturing technology aids to the simplification of many manufacturing processes in numerous industries. In instance, as compared to traditional cutting, casting, and clay modeling, it is able to produce prototype models relatively rapidly and simply. This is especially useful when employing additive manufacturing technologies to create robots or wearable platforms with complex shapes and many considerations. This article presents an application case for a wired power transmission type wearable suit system for a single actuator, with the assumption that it will be created using additive manufacturing technology to address issues with existing agricultural wearable robots.

        서성민(Sungmin Seo),박재효(Jaehyo Park) 한국보건기초의학회 2024 한국보건기초의학회지 Vol.17 No.1

The purpose of this study is to find out the effect of the Q-angle, ankle spacing, static and dynamic balance ability through intervention of short foot exercise in subjects with genu valgum. In the classification method of genu valgum suggested by Morley, 30 subjects with Grade II genu valgum were selected and randomly divided into 15 subjects in the experimental group and 15 subjects in the control group. The experimental group performed short-foot exercise, and the control group performed it without treatment. Short foot exercise was performed for 6 weeks and 3 days, and 15 minutes of exercise was performed per day. For statistical analysis, the paired t-test was used for comparison before and after intervention in the group, and the independent t-test was used for comparison between groups. The results of the study showed that the experimental group had significant differences in Q-angle, ankle spacing, static balance and dynamic balance in the comparison before and after the intervention (p<0.05), there was no significant difference in the control group (p>0.05). Comparing the before and after differences between groups showed significant differences only after intervention (p<0.05), there was no significant difference before the intervention (p>0.05).

A Wearable Soft Robot for Stroke Patients’ Finger Occupational Therapy and Quantitative Measures on the Joint Paralysis

        Jihun Kim,Geonhui Lee,Hanjin Jo,Wookhyun Park,Yu Shin Jin,Ho Dong Kim,Jaehyo Kim 한국정밀공학회 2020 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol.21 No.12

We suggest a wearable soft robot for post-stroke, hemiplegic patients’ finger rehabilitation and quantitative evaluations on the joint paralysis. The device consists of a pair of gloves. One measures finger positions of the normal side, and the other induces symmetric movements on the affected side by pneumatic force. Ten patients at Brunnstrom stage 3 and 4 from a local hospital participated in this study. They performed Rolyan Stacking Cones 10 times with and without the support of the soft robot. We measured subjects’ proximal interphalangeal angles and air pressures in the pneumatic glove during the exercise to monitor grab/release patterns. The soft robot helped open their paralyzed finger joints by more than 50 degrees on average regardless of Brunnstrom stages. We applied pattern recognition methods on the measurement to quantitatively evaluate the subjects. A support vector machine revealed a misclassification rate of 20%, implying that there were a considerable number of overlapping data sets near the boundary between Brunnstrom stages. K-means method with three clusters suggested a new subject group near the support vector machine border. Thus, we conclude that our wearable soft robot not only provides grab/release guides to post-stroke patients but also provides quantitative information on their finger paralysis supplementary to the existing qualitative assessments.
