PURPOSE: This study examined the effect of bridge exercise-abdominal draw-in maneuver (ADIM) with hip adductor co-contraction on the TrA thickness and whether it is effective as a core stability exercise. METHODS: The subjects of this study, 33 men with no history in the past and who provided prior consent, were selected through interviews with male students of S University. The subjects performed five movements, including bridge exercise and ADIM, and performed two demonstrations and two exercises in advance. The abdominal muscles were measured using ultrasonography once in each movement, and the abdominal muscle tone was measured using a soft tissue tone measurement. RESULTS: There was a significant difference in the thickness between the TrA and Internal Oblique Muscles at various bridge positions (p < .05), and no significant difference with the External Oblique Muscle (p < .05). There was no significant difference in muscle tone in the Rectus abdominis part (p > .05), but a significant difference in the Oblique Muscle part (p < .05). The muscle tone of the Oblique Muscles by position showed a significant difference in Bridge, BHa, and BA compared to the rest position (p < .05), but no significant difference with BHaA (p > .05). CONCLUSION: The thickness of TrA could be increased through bridge exercise, and TrA could be activated properly using ADIM and may be an effective exercise for core stabilization.

This study aimed to determine the factors that affect body temperature changes and physiological responses during continuous swimming according to swim cap material. Subjects included 24 women in their 20s and 40s without any relevant medical histories. The distance of the swim exercise was set at 1500m, and was completed at a pace of 40seconds per 50m using the freestyle stroke. Body temperature, skin temperature, heart rate, lactate, rated perceived exertion (RPE), and thermal sensation were measured 30 min before exercise, every 10 min during exercise, immediately after 30 min of exercise, and 30 min after recovery. Body temperature demonstrated a significant interaction effect according to swim cap material and age based on swim time (p<0.05). Skin temperature demonstrated a significant difference according to swim time (p<0.05). Heart rate was significantly different according to swim exercise (p<0.001). Lactic acid demonstrated a significant difference according to swim time (p<0.001) and interaction effect (p<0.01). RPE demonstrated a significant difference according to swim time (p<0.001), and swim time according to age (p<0.01) and interaction effects (p<0.05). Finally, thermal sensation demonstrated a significant difference over time (p<0.001). In conclusion, wearing swim caps made from a light mesh material was excellent for heat dissipation and breathability, and reduced fatigue and improved exercise performance through temperature control.
일차 진료의의 천식 치료에 관한 인식 현황과 Easy Asthma Management 프로그램의 유용성 평가

Background: The guidelines for asthma treatment have been developed but few primary care physicians (PCPs) practice in accordance with these guidelines. Objective: This study surveyed the change of their understanding of asthma before and after using a novel computer software program named as Easy Asthma Management (EAM) program. Method: One hundred of total 363 physicians, who used EAM program for at least 3 months, responded to a self-reported instrument. Survey was conducted in August 2004 through October 2004, and in October 2004 through January 2005 before and after the use of EAM program. Result: The use of EAM program changed the understanding on the asthma treatment according to the survey282 result that 85% of participant PCPs agreed to follow the EAM guidelines more strictly. Especially, results showed that their attitudes were changed as follows: anti-inflammatory agent-based prescription from 38% to 49%; inhaler-based prescription from 43% to 55%; continuous treatment from 21% to 43%. Additional results showed that they diagnosed asthmatic patients more easily (from 40% to 49%). Conclusion: The use of EAM program changed the understanding and treatment on the asthma by PCPs, which resulted in increased prescriptions of inhaled anti-inflammatory agents and more objective evaluation of the changes in the conditions of asthmatic patients.
