Empirical Optimization and Evaluation for Multi-Nozzle Cleaning Device

As many high-rise buildings are being built, the problems of managing them are also becoming imperative. For example, safety accidents occurring while cleaning buildings with ropes are increasing every year. Robots for cleaning the outer walls of buildings are being developed and researched as a solution. In this study, we introduce a device that sprays and cleans using water without a brush or squeegees. The robot arm, on which the brushes or squeegees are mounted, often increases the weight and cost. In contrast, the water spraying device can clean the facade without an arm, reducing the load on the robot. The device is equipped with a multi-nozzle to secure a sufficient cleaning area. For maximizing the performance, this research was searching the optimal conditions of multi-nozzle device. However, the performance is hard to be verified because there is no international criterion for wall-cleaning performance. For validating the performance, thus, the cogent criterion is also necessary. This paper presents the criterion of the cleaning quality of the multi-nozzle device using the image processing method. Based on the criterion, design parameters, such as nozzle orifice size, angle of incidence, and nozzles gap are calculated for optimal cleaning. The combination of design parameters used in the experiment adopts Taguchi orthogonal array. Sensitivity analysis gives the optimal design parameters of 1.4 mm nozzle orifice size, 0° angle of incidence, and 180 mm nozzles gap. Based on the results of this study, field tests will be conducted in the future.

Purpose: Erythropoietin (Epo), through its specific erythropoietin receptor (Epo-R) may induce responses in a variety of non-hematopoietic tissues including malignant cells. In this study, we examined the expression of Epo-R in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and tested the correlations of Epo-R expression with clinicopathological properties of HCC and with tumor recurrence. Methods: The study included 134 patients who underwent curative hepatectomy for HBV-related primary HCC. The medical records and laboratory or pathologic data from these patients were collected and analyzed. The expression of Epo-R mRNA and protein were evaluated by RT-PCR and western blot analysis, respectively. Results: We found intense expression of Epo-R mRNA in both non-tumor cirrhotic liver and HCC. Expression of Epo-R mRNA in the cirrhotic liver correlated significantly and negatively with tumor size, and positively with tumor cell differentiation and p53 staining; Epo-R mRNA expression in the HCC correlated with differentiation and p53 staining. The expression of Epo-R mRNA in cirrhotic liver or HCC was positively correlated with disease-free survival. Tumor recurrence showed stronger dependence on the expression of Epo-R protein in non-malignant cirrhotic liver than in the HCC. Conclusion: In HBV-related HCC, levels of Epo-R mRNA and protein in the non-malignant cirrhotic liver were positively correlated with tumor cell differentiation and p53 expression, which are favorable predictors of disease-specific survival.
어류군집을 통해 본 화진포호의 생태적 특징 및 구조적 문제점

2022년 5월부터 2023년 3월까지 화진포호의 환경을 조사한 결과 북호는 염분도가 높게 나타났으며 남호는 낮게 나타났고 용존산소는 수심 1 m 정도부터 급격히 낮아져 상습적으로 무산소 혹은 저산소층이 발생하였다. 본 조사에서 채집된 어류는 총 11목 17과 32종 10244개체였으며, 비교풍부도의 대부분을 황어와 전어가 차지하였다. 과거 어류상과의 비교에서 본 조사에서 채집되지 않은 종은 12종, 새로 채집된 종은 1종이었다. 해수어/담수어의 비율을 조사한 결과 남호는 담수어의 비율이 매우 높았고, 북호 또한, 담수어의 비율이 70%를 차지하여 화진포호는 담수화가 진행되고 있다고 판단된다. 또한, 화진포호 곳곳에서 어류폐사가 발생하였으며, 이러한 결과는 교각과 도로, 수문건설을 위해 화진포호의 수로를 축소시켜 수체이동이 제한된 것과 주기적이고 인위적인 갯터짐이 원인이라 생각된다. 이러한 문제를 해결하려면 각 수로의 확장 및 인위적인 갯터짐의 금지가 필수적이라고 판단된다. From May 2022 to March 2023, an investigation was conducted on the environment of Hwajinpo. The results indicated that the northern part of the lake had high salinity, while the southern part showed low salinity. Dissolved oxygen levels decreased significantly from a depth of about 1 m, leading to the persistent occurrence of anaerobic or hypoxic conditions. A total of 11 orders, 17 families, 32 species, 10,244 individuals of fish were collected during this study. The majority of the relative abundance was Tribolodon hakonensis and Konosirus punctatus. In comparison with other studies, 12 species were not collected in this study, while 1 new species was collected. The investigation of marine and freshwater fish ratios revealed that the southern part of the lake had a very high proportion of freshwater fish, and the northern part also had a freshwater fish ratio of 70%. This suggests that Hwajinpo Lake is undergoing to freshwaterification. Fish kills were observed throughout Hwajinpo Lake, and it is believed that the constriction of waterways due to the construction of bridges, roads, water gates, and periodic and artificial ‘breaking-sandbar’ has limited the movement of water bodies, contributing to these issues. To address these problems, it is essential to expand the various waterways and ban of artificial ‘breakingsandbar’.

<P>Background aims. Major challenges in de-differentiated liposarcoma (DDLPS) therapy are the high rate of sequential recurrence (>80%) and metastasis (20-30%) following surgical removal. However, well-defined therapeutic strategies for this rare malignancy are lacking and are critically needed. Methods. We investigated a new approach to DDLPS therapy with mesenchymal stromal cells expressing herpes simplex virus thymidine kinase (MSC-TK). In an effort to evaluate this efficacy, in vitro cytotoxicity of MSC-TK against DDLPS cells was analyzed using an apoptosis assay. For pre-clinical study, the MSC-TK induced reduction in recurrence and metastasis was validated in a recurrent DDLPS model after the macroscopic complete resection and lung metastasis DDLPS model. Results. MSC-TK induced apoptosis in DDLPS cells by bystander effects via gap junction intracellular communication (GJIC) of toxic ganciclovir (GCV). Recurrent DDLPS models following no residual tumor/microscopic tumor resection and lung metastasis DDLPS models were established, which suggested clinical relevance. MSC-TK markedly reduced locoregional recurrence rates and prolonged recurrence-free survival, thus increasing overall survival in the recurrent DDLPS model. MSC-TK followed by GCV treatment yielded a statistically significant reduction in early and advanced-stage lung metastasis. Discussion. This therapeutic strategy may serve as an alternative or additional strategy by applying MSC-TK to target residual tumors following surgical resection, thus reducing local relapse and metastasis in these patients.</P>
