Objective : The aim of this research was to investigate the depressive effect of depletion of B15(心兪), B23(腎兪), L5(尺澤), B40(委中) in hypertentive stroke patients. Methods : Depletion on B15(心兪), B23(腎兪), L5(尺澤), B40(委中) in hypertentive stroke patient who were admitted in Dong-Seo Oriental Medical Hospital every other day form 4 weeks, without western antihypertensive drug. Results : After treatment in 2nd week, depletion on B15(心兪), B23(腎兪), L5(尺澤), B40(委中) without western antihypertensive drug increased the systolic and diastolic blood pressure. After treatment in 4th week, depletion on B15(心兪), B23(腎兪), L5(尺澤), B40(委中) without western antihypertensive drug decreased the systolic and diastolic blood pressure. After treatment in 4th week, values of RBC and hemoglobine were not significantly changed. Conclusions : Continous depletion on B15(心兪), B23(腎兪), L5(尺澤), B40(委中) in hypertentive stroke patient without western antihypertensive drug implies decreasement of blood pressure, without change of values of RBC and hemoglobine.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Several surgical techniques have been suggested to anatomically reconstruct the posterolateral corner of the knee joint. However, most of them are open techniques that require dissection of the skin and soft tissues without utilizing the advantages of arthroscopic-assisted techniques. Therefore, this study aimed to describe a novel arthroscopic technique that anatomically reconstructs the posterolateral corner of the knee joint. This novel arthroscopic technique can properly identify important landmarks for reconstruction and anatomically reconstruct the three key components (lateral collateral ligament, popliteus tendon, and popliteofibular ligament) of the posterolateral corner of the knee joint.</P>

<P><I>Selaginella Herba</I> is the dried, aerial part of<I> Selaginella tamariscina </I>(P.Beauv.) Spring and has been used to treat amenorrhea, abdominal pain, headaches, and hematuria in Korea. However, scientific evidence regarding the anti-inflammatory activity and action mechanism of<I> Selaginella tamariscina</I> is lacking. Thus, the present study was performed to investigate the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities of<I> Selaginella tamariscina</I> ethanol extract (STE) against lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammatory responses and identify the molecular mechanism responsible. STE was prepared by heating in 70% ethanol and its quality was confirmed by HPLC. STE dose-dependently inhibited the productions of inflammatory mediators (NO and PGE<SUB>2</SUB>) and proinflammatory cytokines (IL-1<I>β</I> and IL-6) in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells. STE markedly suppressed the phosphorylations of MAPKs, I<I>κ</I>B-<I>α</I>, and NF-<I>κ</I>B and the nuclear translocation of NF-<I>κ</I>B induced by LPS stimulation. In addition, STE exhibited good free radical scavenging activity and prevented ROS generation by LPS. STE also upregulated the expression of Nrf2 and HO-1 and promoted the nuclear translocation of Nrf2. Taken together, STE was found to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects on RAW 264.7 macrophages and the mechanism appeared to involve the MAPK, NF-<I>κ</I>B, and Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathways. These results suggest that STE might be useful for preventing or treating inflammatory diseases and provide scientific evidence that supports the developments of herbal prescriptions or novel natural products.</P>

Sphingomyelinase catalyzes the hydrolysis of sphingomyelin to generate ceramide, an important molecule involved in the regulation of various cellular responses. In this study, we partially purified the neutral sphingomyelinase2 (nSMase2) and identified the inhibitors, D-lyxophytosphingosine and D-arabino-phytosphingosine, which have an inhibitory effect on nSMase2in a concentration-dependent manner. A Dixon plot of each phytosphingosines revealed their probable inhibitory pattern, i.e., apparent competitive inhibition. These compounds did not inhibit the Mg^2+-independent neutral SMase activity, although the known nSMase2 inhibitor, GW4869,showed inhibitory effects on Mg^2+-independent neutral SMase activity. Further, the two phytosphingosines specifically inhibited the ceramide generation regulated by nSMase2.

<P>Lithium-sulfur cells using sulfur as an active cathode material offer high energy density and low-cost. However, dissolution and migration of lithium polysulfides (the ‘shuttle effect’) remain key obstacles for the practical development of lithium-sulfur cells. Here, we demonstrate that Fe<SUB>1-x</SUB>S (pyrrhotite) coated by N-doped carbon (Fe<SUB>1-x</SUB>S@NC) with high affinity for polysulfides and high electronic conductivity can be used as a functional additive to trap lithium polysulfides and reutilize reaction intermediates in the sulfur cathode during cycling. The addition of Fe<SUB>1-x</SUB>S@NC into the sulfur cathode results in the enhancement of cycling performance of the lithium-sulfur cell in terms of initial discharge capacity, capacity retention and rate capability. This superior cycling performance can be attributed to strong chemical interactions between electrically conductive Fe<SUB>1-x</SUB>S@NC particles and lithium polysulfides, which suppress the dissolution of lithium polysulfides and enhance the utilization of active sulfur during repeated cycling.</P>

<P><B>Objective</B></P><P>To investigate the efficacy of portable microcurrent therapy device (PMTD) of the hip internal rotators in the treatment of in-toeing gait caused by increased femoral anteversion in children over 8 years of age.</P><P><B>Methods</B></P><P>Eleven children (22 legs; 4 boys and 7 girls; mean age, 10.4±1.6 years) with in-toeing gait caused by increased femoral anteversion were included in the present study. All children received 60 minutes of PMTD (intensity, 25 µA; frequency, 8 Hz) applied to the hip internal rotators daily for 4 weeks. Hip internal rotation (IR) angle, external rotation (ER) angle, and midmalleolar-second toe angle (MSTA) measurement during stance phase at transverse plane and Family Satisfaction Questionnaire, frequency of tripping and fatigue like pains about the PMTD were performed before treatment and at 4 weeks after initial PMTD treatment. Paired t-test and Fisher exact test were used for statistical analysis.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>Hip IR/ER/MSTA was 70.3°±5.4°/20.1°±5.5°/–11.4°±2.7°, and 55.7°±7.8°/33.6°±8.2°/–2.6°±3.8° before treatment and at 4 weeks after initial PMTD treatment, respectively (p<0.01). Ten of 11 (91%) children's family stated that they were generally satisfied with the PMTD treatment. The frequency of tripping and fatigue like pains was significantly lower at 4 weeks after PMTD treatment (p<0.05). Excellent inter-rater and intra-rater reliability was observed for repeated MSTA measurements between the examiners (k=0.91–0.96 and k=0.93–0.99), respectively.</P><P><B>Conclusion</B></P><P>PMTD of the hip internal rotators can be effective in improving the gait pattern of children with in-toeing gait caused by increased femoral anteversion.</P>
