Recently, capability of shape changes is considered essential for soft robots to have functionality while interacting with the surrounding environment. A variety of morphing systems have been suggested by exploiting soft materials that can be deformed by various stimuli, such as pneumatic pressure, light, temperature, and humidity. Here, we introduce novel strategies for dual morphing Pneu-nets capable of sequential transformation with a single pressure input, inspired by the biological structure of the lotus leaf. The morphing of the Pneumatic actuator is caused by the difference in stiffness of each wall, and this can be controlled by utilizing the strain-hardening effect of polymers or using hybrid materials. Dual morphing Pneu-nets morph sequentially as the pressure increasing, e.g., bending-bending, stretching-bending, and bending-twisting. Various shape changes according to the intensity of a single stimulus is an extraordinary technology that allows sophisticated actuations with a simple input, expanding the possibilities of soft robots.
Delayed-Onset Anaphylaxis Caused by IgE Response to Influenza Vaccination

Influenza vaccine-associated anaphylaxis is a very rare allergic reaction to vaccines, but the most concerning and life-threatening adverse reaction. Although the safety of influenza vaccines has been well documented, occasional cases of anaphylaxis in vaccinated patients have been reported. In this study, we analyzed the immunoglobulin E (IgE) response to whole influenza vaccines in a pediatric case of delayed-onset anaphylaxis after influenza vaccination. The patient showed elevated specific IgE levels against whole influenza vaccines, especially with split virion from egg-based manufacturing process. Specific IgE levels to influenza vaccines showed decreased over. We evaluated a causal relationship between influenza vaccine and anaphylaxis event by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Delayed-onset anaphylaxis after influenza vaccination can occur in children without predisposing allergic diseases. In addition, the results suggested that formulation and production system of influenza vaccines could affect the probability of severe allergic reaction to vaccines.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) and its complications are the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the world. Because of the side effects and incomplete recovery from current therapy, stem cell therapy emerges as a potential therapy for CVD treatment, and endothelial progenitor cell (EPC) is one of the key stem cells used for therapeutic applications. The effect of this therapy required the expansion of EPC function. To enhance the EPC activation, proliferation, and angiogenesis using dronedarone hydrochloride (DH) is the purpose of this study. DH received approval for atrial fibrillation treatment and its cardiovascular protective effects were already reported. In this study, DH significantly increased EPC proliferation, tube formation, migration, and maintained EPCs surface marker expression. In addition, DH treatment up-regulated the phosphorylation of AKT and reduced the reactive oxygen species production. In summary, the cell priming by DH considerably improved the functional activity of EPCs, and the use of which might be a novel strategy for CVD treatment.
딥러닝 기반 이미지 인식 기술을 활용한 동전 자동분류 스마트 저금통

기계학습은 인공지능의 한 클래스로 최근 이미지 및 음성인식, 지능적 웹 검색, 자율 주행 자동차 등의 영역에서 성공적 발전을 바탕으로 우리의 일상에 폭넓게 이용되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 Keras 오픈소스 라이브러리를 이용해 딥러닝을 이용한 기계학습 기반의 동전 인식 소프트웨어를 구현하였고, 이를 이용해 동전 자동분류 스마트 저금통을 설계하였다. 동작 검증을 위하여 스마트 저금통의 모든 발생 이벤트는 Parse-server와 mongoDB를 이용하여 시각화 및 어플리케이션 및 웹사이트를 연결하였다.
Infrared radiation accelerates the dissolution rate of a microneedle array patch

Background: The microneedle array patch (MAP) has been used for various applications because it is highly efficacious in delivering the active drug ingredient into the skin. Objectives: This study was performed to evaluate changes in transepidermal water loss (TEWL), the surface temperature of the skin, the dissolution rate of the MAP tips with infrared (IR) irradiation, and time for recovery from erythema that occurred after MAP attachment and IR irradiation. Methods: In this study, the dissolution rate of a MAP was increased, not by changing the drug formulation but by employing an IR device. TEWL increased more than fourfold IR irradiation. Water that evaporated as a result of IR irradiation was trapped in the skin layer by the patch, resulting in the increased dissolution rate of the MAP tips. Results: After 10min of IR irradiation, the height of the dissolving tips increased from 41 to 56%, and the dissolved volume of the tips increased from 7 to 18%. During the 10 min of irradiation, the skin surface temperature rose from 32 to 40°C. Erythema occurred in the early stage of treatment, but it abated within 2 h after removal of the MAP and cessation of IR irradiation. Conclusion: Through this study, it was possible to shorten the administration time of MAPs by using an IR device that could be easily accessed. This method can be applied to various types of MAPs to reduce the time that the MAPs must remain attached to the skin without changing the drug formulation.
