The membranes were prepared by the poly (vinyl alcohol)/chitosan blending and crosslinked with tetraethyl ortho silicate is reported. The resulting membrane was characterized by FTIR spectroscopy, swelling studies, X-ray diffraction and contact angle testing, Scanning electron microscopy and was finally applied in the pervaporation separation of water acetic mixture. From the FTIR spectra of membranes it was confirmed that the crosslinking reaction between PVA and TEOS successfully occurred. Membrane swelling studies were done at 400C for different water/AA mixtures, swelling degree values were increased with increased in chitosan addition in to polymer matrix. The membrane was applied for the pervaporation separation of water acetic mixture, it was observed that, the membrane showed increased flux with chitosan addition in comparison to pristine PVA/TEOS membrane and with comparatively decreased in separation factor.

In this study Poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA)-tetraethyl orthosilicate organicinorganic hybrid membrane has prepared and modified the membrane surface by layer-by-layer deposition of a PVAm/silicotungstic acid polyelectrolyte for the pervaporation dehydration of ECH/IPA/water mixtures. Membrane characterization using FTIR, FE-SEM, and SEMEDS, XPS and TGA measurements was carried out. In pervaporation experiments at 30 °C, the flux decreased 0.14 to 0.05 kg m-2 h-1 and separation factor increased from and 2099 to 13320 with TEOS addition in the PVA membrane was observed. And for the layer by layer deposition on PVA-TEOS (4) membranes flux increased and separation factor decreased from 0.14 to 0.28 kg m-2 h and 2099 to 416 with the number of layer of deposition were observed. The pervaporation output of the PVA-TEOS and layer by layer PVA-TEOS membranes reflects the both membranes have excellent ability in epichlorohydrin, isopropanol and water ternary mixture pervaporation dehydration.

In this study attempt was made to prepared the membranes from blending of hydrophilic polymers namely poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and poly (vinyl amine) (PVAm). And stabilized it in the water using the chemical crosslinking using the glutardehyde as crosslinking agent for dehydration of water-azeotropes. The characterization of membranes were done by using FTIR, XRD, DSC, SEM and swelling study. MB1.5 membrane was the best one in all since it exhibited higher separation index. By using blend membrane (MB1.5), the flux through a 65-○m film increased from 0.01 to 0.47 kg/m2h at an acetonitrile/water feed ratio between 20/80 and 5/95 w/w at 30 °C while separation factor increased from the 5055 to 100.84 attributed to the higher hydrophilicity of blend membranes. It was observed from the obtained pervaporation data, membrane showed higher separation ability for water-isopropanol mixture in comparison to water-acetonitrile.

The membrane which was fabricated by incorporation of micro sized Na-Zeolite particle into the poly (vinyl alcohol) crosslinked with poly acrylic acid (PAA) was studied. The resulting membrane was characterized by FTIR spectroscopy, swelling studies, and contact angle testing and Scanning electron microscopy and was finally applied in the pervaporation separation of water/acetic mixture. From the FTIR spectra of membranes it was confirms that the crosslinking reaction between PVA and PAA occurred and not affected by the zeolite incorporation. Na-Zeolite particle are uniformly distributed by the physical means throughout different loading of zeolite by SEM observation. The contact angle value of membranes was decreased with increase of zeolite loading into membrane. It was shown that membrane hydrophilicity improved with zeolite incorporation. Membrane swelling studies were done at 400C for different water/Acetic acid mixture. Consequently, swelling degree values were increased with increase of zeolite loading in to polymer matrix. The membrane was applied for the pervaporation separation of water acetic mixture, it was observed that, the membrane showed abrupt increased flux in comparison to pristine PVA/PAA membrane with comparatively decreased in separation factor.

The pervaporation test was conducted by using poly (vinyl) alcohol cross-linked with dicarboxylic acid, Tartaric acid. Various property of the prepared membrane was characterized by IR spectroscopy, Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), Contact angle test, and swelling studies, after then it was finally applied in the pervaporation test using different concentration of acetic acid feed solution. In the IR spectra, we could observe that cross-liking reaction became more intense with increase of the tartaric acid concentration in the casting solution while there was no remarkable decrease of hydroxyl group on the part of cross-liking reaction because of hydroxyl group supplement of the tartaric acid. This result also could be supported by result of both DSC and contact angle measurement. From the pervaporation test result, we observed that flux steadily decreased with increase of acetic acid content in the feed solution, separation factor was a contrast to the flux. And acetic acid content in the permeated solution was no significant increase with increase of acetic acid content in the feed solution. Accordingly, it could be concluded that this membrane has a higher flux and good selectivity in the low concentration of acetic acid feed solution.
