Jesus' command in Matthew 28:19 leaves no room for interpretation. The role of the followers of Jesus and of the church is decidedly clear. We are called to make disciples of all nations. An honest assessment of my local ministry context, Access Church, reveals that we, as a church, have fallen short of Jesus' Great Commission. The intention of this research project is to understand the biblical mandate to make disciples as taught throughout Scripture, study Jesus' discipleship methods in the book of Matthew, and, ultimately, create a new rubric to help Access Church—and other churches—understand how to measure its effectiveness.Chapter One is an overview of the entire project and research plan. Chapter Two provides a theological framework and current literature review on discipleship. Chapter Three is an in-depth look at the cross-sectional quantitative methodology and survey used to research Access Church members. Chapter Four provides a detailed look at the survey results and growth. Chapter Five presents a conclusion, contextual changes we are making at Access Church, and suggestions for churches who want to multiply in discipleship in a way that is healthy and sustainable.

Compassionate care within the local community of a church is of vital essence to a thriving church ministry. For centuries church leaders have endeavored to make an impact in the lives of the people living in their vicinity through outreach efforts. The compassion of the local church is needed in the area of children in foster care. Through the analysis of two church programs focused on serving the spiritual, educational, and social needs of teens in the foster care system, this dissertation will examine how to assist local churches in establishing a program to serve the children in their local foster care system. The research of this project utilizes a theological study of biblical mandates and principles, a study of current literature, as well as surveys and interviews of the pastors, volunteer leaders, and church program volunteers of two churches to answer the question: How does a compassion organization best replicate itself within the ministry of today’s Christian Church? This study maintains its focus upon establishing a ministry to serve the children in the foster care system with an eye toward the population of children within the foster care system who have not nor will be adopted. With large numbers of children within the ranks of the foster care system, it is incumbent upon the church of Jesus Christ to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit to serve the need of those who are at-risk and unable to care for themselves. Should the church heed the word of God to love our neighbor as ourselves, compassion will emerge from its ranks. This project will inform the reader in methods to establish effective compassion for one of society’s most vulnerable generations.

The dropout rate of more than five million young adults from faith and church in the last decade, who were originally born and raised in Christian homes, has reached a critical point. The Christian community must rethink its discipleship methods in order to impact the youth of today. The researcher explored the root causes of the problem and identified that the current discipleship assumptions and strategies, rooted in modern mechanistic mass production paradigm do not work. Therefore, these assumptions and strategies must give way to a personally crafted one-on-one relational fatherly mentorship interconnected approach for the faith formation of the youth of the Church in the United States. Existing research findings from Barna, Pew, and Fuller Institute indicated a crucial need for a new ecosystem of spiritual and vocational apprenticeship. This system can support deeper relationships and more vibrant faith formation and discipleship, which must be intentionally pursued by church leaders of today. During the first century, the Apostle Paul, undoubtedly understood the concept of one-on-one relational mentorship. His discipleship efforts impacted significantly the lives of young adults like Timothy, Titus, Luke, and Onesimus, to name a few. Paul's influence on these young men was so impactful that his departure from active ministry following his arrest in Jerusalem did not affect negatively the growth of the church. The researcher identified the great principles of the Pauline concept of discipleship, including love, relationship, fathering, and mentorship, and has employed these concepts to address the reasons youth gave for their disconnection from faith and church. These include, but are not limited to overprotective parents and leaders, shallow teachings, anti-science rhetoric, repressive bias, doubts, and exclusivity. Leaders of the twenty-first-century church in the United States of America must innovatively adopt and incorporate the basic principles of the Pauline model of discipleship to end or at least minimize the current youth dropout rate.

The subject of Christian stewardship including financial behavior continues to receive heightened attention due to low giving rates in the ecclesial community and within faith-based academia. The purpose of this correlation study was to examine associations between the most frequently exercised financial management behaviors and giving by Christian devotees. The study identified and explained degrees of relationships among selected financial behaviors of giving, by percentage and amount, by participants to churches, parachurch ministries, and alma maters. A new theory of giving behaviors was introduced to analyze relationships between the giving and financial behaviors of participants who identified as Christian and self-identified as givers. The results from the feasibility study on giving behavior subscales to churches and alma maters reveal high internal consistency. Twelve of the 30 formulated hypotheses were supported. The findings reveal that prudence in some individual financial behaviors and overall financial stewardship behavior are highly relational in a statistically significant fashion to giving a percentage and amount to churches with parachurch ministries. The findings also demonstrate a highly associative nature between selected financial behaviors and overall financial stewardship behavior with giving behavior to churches. Savings and investment financial behavior was most pronounced with giving behavior to alma maters.

Poverty is a major contributor of negative effects to individual health, mental health, and quality of life. The call God has for Christians is to care for individuals experiencing poverty. The question the research aims to answer is: “What elements are important to provide a holistic feeding program that meets the need of an individual physically and spiritually?” Literature on the issue of poverty, a thorough review of scriptures, as well as insights from experts in the field provided information on historical and contemporary issues affecting the poor. Data for this project was collected through a mixed methods study consisting of ten non-profit and local church leaders. A content analysis approach was utilized and the research looked for trends and insights. The findings of the research concluded that local churches and non-profit organizations could benefit from training staff and volunteers on evangelism, implementing evidence-informed curriculum for clients, and using metrics to help inform whether the services offered to families are making an impact. This project will inform the reader of potential methods to incorporate in Christian feeding programs to provide a holistic approach to care for the needs of individuals living in poverty.

      • Dimensions of Transformational Leadership as Predictors of Employee Creativity: The Moderating Role of Job Satisfaction

The aim of this research was to determine whether the dimensions of transformational leadership predicted employee creativity, as well as whether job satisfaction strengthened this association through moderation. Findings in the existing literature exhibited mixed outcomes concerning TL’s impact on EC, requiring more empirical research. Many studies have employed moderating variables in search of potentializing a stronger relationship between TL and EC; however, no previous scholars have explored JS’s moderating capabilities between the variables. JS as a suitable strengthening variable between TL dimensions and EC is evidenced through unrelated research concerning TL’s impact on JS and JS’s impact on EC. A quantitative, nonexperimental approach with a survey methodology was curated for this research study. The sample consisted of 183 knowledge-worker employees from creativity-driven organizations. The data were collected via an electronic survey platform (SurveyMonkey) and analyzed (multiple linear regression, formal moderation, simple slope analysis) using SPSS. The findings indicated that TL’s dimension of idealized influence was the most robust statistically significant dimension to predict EC. Furthermore, employee JS moderated the relationship between II and EC at multiple standard deviation levels. The results add to the theoretical and practical implications of the literature by solidifying II’s consistency as an EC influencer, providing a fresh perspective from a new sample in North America, and breaking new ground by exploring employee JS as a moderator. These results open a new view on the criticality of II and employee JS to increase EC. Fostering such concepts can catapult businesses to capitalize on organizational innovation and sustain a competitive edge in the current volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous business landscape.
