      • International students' reconstruction of their experiences in South Korea

Narcy, Mai Linh Aurelia 고려대학교 대학원 2017 국내석사

        RANK : 2591

Academic discussions have largely left out international students as having an active role in the process of their development. Using grounded theory methodology, this study illuminates the individual interpretations that international students make through interacting with local students, other international students, faculty, the university administration, and the local society in South Korea. It was found that international students undergo the process of inner reconstruction when the interpretations clashed with their existing knowledge construct. From this reconstruction process, the international students then respond back to the environment in a way that fits the changed knowledge construct. This study's findings support the transformative learning theory. This study also shows the international students' responses to the environment by rejecting local norms, becoming passive or giving up, or becoming assertive and trying to maintain control.

      • The Influence of the Motivating Factors on the Recovery Attitude of the Inpatient Drug Surrenderees in the Philippines : Moderated Mediation Role of Family Relationship and Hope

AMISTA NARCIE FAITH 삼육대학교 대학원 2020 국내박사

        RANK : 1550

More attention is paid to the treatment of substance abuse in legislation, practice and research, however, effective treatment remains elusive. A number of different treatment approaches have been used over the years for addiction rehabilitation and therapy. All of these programs will be worthless if users do not wish to improve themselves. One of the most powerful weapons people can have to escape substance use disorders is a positive recovery attitude. Previous literature does not have an investigation of the inpatient recovery attitude, which shows the gap to be investigated in the current study. The present research has been conducted to explore the underlying nature of the motivating factors for the recovery attitude of inpatient drug surrenderees and to evaluate possible programs that could be developed to benefit the recovery process of inpatient drug surrenderees in the Philippines. Respondents were randomly selected from five treatment and rehabilitation centers under the Department of Health located in three major islands in the Philippines. A correlational, predictive, and a cross-sectional moderated mediating design was used to conduct an exploratory analysis. Data were analyzed through descriptive, t-test, ANOVA, correlation, logistic regression, and moderated mediating analysis. The results of this study showed that treatment perception was the highest predictor of recovery attitudes. Perceived stress had a non-significant negative direct effect (B=-.008, p>0.05) on the recovery attitude, but the interaction effect of perceived stress and hope showed a statistically significant negative effect (B=-.0082, p>0.05) on the recovery attitude, but the interaction effect of perceived stress and hope showed a statistically negative effect (B=-.403, p<.01) on the recovery attitude. Perceived stress also showed a significant interaction effect (B=.321, p<.01; B=.634, p<.01) with hope and family relationship on treatment perception. Treatment perception had a significant positive effect (B=.259, p<.01) on recovery attitude and a significant interaction effect (B=-.325, p<.01) on recovery attitude with family relationship. Family relationship had a significant positive effect on recovery attitude (B=.299, p<.01). The study concluded that recovery attitude could be improved by implementing comprehensive treatment programs through support for family members and by establishing an inner belief in themselves to overcome addiction. Therapists, psychologists and other health professionals should create innovative approaches. It is recommended that further studies in the substance use intervention programs should be developed and enhanced the current strategies by introducing cultural relevance intended for the inpatient drug users in the Philippines and abroad.
