In 1838, Eugene Catalan, a Belgian mathematician, solved the problem of how many ways one can parenthesize a chain of N+1 letters using N pairs of parentheses such that there are either two letters, a parenthesized expression and a letter, or two parenthesized expressions within each pair of parentheses. The answer for any positive number N is the Nth Catalan Number. In chapter 1., we introduce the Catalan Number and describe the basic concepts for the proof of Catalan Number. In chapter 2., we consider various problems that are relative to the Catalan Number and find relationship between there problems. The principal purpose of this thesis is to study the Catalan Number and its appearance.

제 7차 고등학교 수학과 교육과정에 관한 연구 : 선택 중심 교육과정 중심으로

본 연구의 목적은 현재 시행되고 있는 제7차 수학과 교육 과정에서 일어날 수 있는 문제점들을 분석·파악하고 그 대안을 모색하여 올바른 교육을 실시하는 데 도움을 주고자 하는 것이다. 본 논문은 2000년 3월 초등학교 1·2학년부터 시작되어 현재 시행되고 있는 제7차 교육 과정의 고등학교 선택 중심 교육 과정을 중심으로 연구 할 것이다. 본 논문은 고등학교 선택 중심 교육 과정에 있어 학생들의 과목선택에 대한 문제와 이에 따른 지도상의 문제점 및 대학 진학에서의 문제점을 살펴보고자 한다. 본론에서는 제7차 교육 과정 중 고등학교 선택 중심 교육 과정을 간단하게 살펴본 후, 고등학교 수학과의 선택과목을 소개하고 일선 고등학교에서 채택한 선택과목들을 제시하고 그 내용 속에서 제기되는 문제점을 파악하고 해결 방안을 모색하고자 한다. 제7차 수학과 교육 과정 중 고등학교 선택 중심 교육 과정을 분석한 결과 발생하는 문제점들은 다음과 같다. 1. 학생들이 수강 과목과 이수하려는 교육 과정을 정확한 판단 하에 선택하는 것이 힘들 것이다. 2. 대입전형제도를 의식하지 않고는 결정을 내릴 수 없는 일선 고교의 현실에서는 다양한 과정을 준비할 수 없다. 3. 대학 전공에 필요한 수학과 과목을 이수하지 않더라도 입학이 가능하다는 문제점이 제기 된다. 본 논문에서는 위에서 제시된 문제점들을 해결하기 위한 여러 가지 대안을 제시하여 더 나은 제7차 교육 과정의 시행이 이루어지기를 기대하며 또한 도움이 되었으면 한다. The purpose of this study wishes to help that analyze growable problems in the seventh mathematics curriculum that is enforced present and execute right education because groping the alternative. This treatise may study laying stress on high school optional curriculum of the seventh curriculum that is enforced present being begun since primary school 1·2 grade March, 2000. This treatise wishes to examine problem and problem in college entering upon studies on the map by problem about students' subject selection in high school optional curriculum and this. After main discourse examines high school optional curriculum of the seventh curriculum straightforwardly, wish to introduce an option subject with high school mathematics and present option subjects that select in line high school and grasp problem that is advanced within these contents and grope solution way. Problems that happen as result that analyze high school optional curriculum of the seventh mathematics curriculum are as following. 1. It may be hard that students choose taking a course subject and training courses to study under correct judgment. 2. Actuality of line high school which do not feel matriculation model system and can not decide can not prepare various process. 3. Even if students do not study necessary mathematics and course in college major, problem that they can use matriculation is instituted. This paper wishes to expect that trial of better the seventh curriculum consists presenting the various kinds alternative to solve problems that is presented over and also beacon.
