        Objective : The aim of this study was to assess the trend of traditional Chinese herbal treatment in subfertility for PCOS and to analyze high frequency used herbs. Methods : CAJ(Chinese Academic Journal) was searched for chinese studies about herbal treatment published on 1979~2013. The following search terms were used: (PCOS and 不孕) or (多囊卵巢综合證 and 不孕). In addition, RCTs published on 2009~2013 were selected to analyze how often herbs used. The quality of RCTs was assessed using the Jadad Scale. Result : 117 full text file studies published on 1994~2013 were selected to assess the trend of Chinese studies about herbal treatment. The 50 RCTs were selected that published on 2009~2013. The 25 studies out of RCTs used common prescription treatment, and the 19 studies out of RCTs used artificial cycle treatment. On common prescription treatment, 25 herbs was used. On artificial cycle treatment, each period used herbs was different.(on the menstrual period; 17 herbs used, on the follicular period; 21 herbs used, on the ovulatory period; 23 herbs used, on the progestational period 21 herbs used). Average of Jadad score of RCTs was 1.2. Conclusion : Singleness using of traditional Chinese herbs is decreasing. On the other side, compositive treatment included western and traditional Chinese medical herbs are increasing and have varied. The most often used category of herbs is tonic medicinal herb, and that attributive channels are liver and kidney.

        Objective : Selaginella Herba is the dried, aerial part of Selaginella tamarisicina (P.Beauv.) Spring and has been used to treat various hemorrhagic symptoms, amenorrhoea etc. in Korea. Previous studies have been aimed at the main bioactive components present in Selaginella Herba. The present study was performed to investigate the anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antibacterial activities, and ovary protective effect of Selaginella tamarisicina ethanol extract (STE). Methods : The anti-inflammatory effect was observed through LPS-induced inflammatory response on RAW 264.7 cell and the antioxidant effect was observed through free radical scavenging activity and preventing activity of ROS (reactive oxygen species). The antibacterial effect of STE was observed on the vaginal resident by disc diffusion method. Also, our research observed protective effect against ovarian toxicity that VCD-induced POI model on CHO-K1 cell. Results : STE dose-dependently inhibited the productions of inflammatory mediator (NO and PGE2) and proinflammatory cytokines (IL-1𝛽 and IL-6) in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells. STE effectively suppressed the phosphorylations of MAPKs, IκBα, and NF-κB, upregulated the expression of Nrf2 and HO-1, and promoted the nuclear translocation of Nrf2. In addition, STE showed good free radical scavenging activity and prevented ROS generation in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 and showed good antibacterial effect compared to ampicillin. In VCD-induced ovarian toxicity, STE protected CHO-K1 cell without toxicity. Conclusions : This result suggests that STE might be useful for protective of female reproductive function.
